Let's say I keep it in a cool dark place, how long will it last in storage before it starts to lose it's potency?

It starts to lose potency immediately, however, keeping it in a cool dark place will slow deterioration. Best place is a freezer, slows deterioration to a crawl.

it really doesn't lose anything in the fridge.

the oil or vegetable glycerin will degrade faster than the cannabinoid content once it's infused. freezing will slow both processes. i've found the fridge alone is sufficient for months at a time.

among other things i often infuse coconut oil for canna and cbd pills. they'll get solid even in a fridge temp, i need to heat it to divide into capsules, it never seems to lose anything or degrade.

oil itself is used to preserve.
