How many watts of MH for veg in a 2x2x5?

I have an omega pro adjustable ballast which i run 600 w of hps all way lasttime which i think is a tad overkill in my little tent so trying to shave pence here and there, will 250 w m h be enough for veg or should i go with the 400w?

You don’t need much for veg. The 250 sounds more then sufficient! I have a small 2’ T5 light for my veg. They don’t need much.

250w mh is perfect for a room that size but plants definitely need good lighting in veg or you wont get shit after harvest. In general it depends on how big your flowering room and the size of the light you flower with. I use t5 for seedlings and clones.

Hi Dosmokethereefer, here is the info you might find useful:

"How much light should I use?
The following is a MINIMUM light requirement for productive growth in the vegetative stage:
CFL: 42.25 watts per square foot
HPS/MH: 32.5 watts per square foot
LED: 22.75 watts per square foot

The following is a MINIMUM light requirement for productive growth in the flowering stage:
CFL: 65 watts per square foot
HPS/MH: 50 watts per square foot
LED: 35 watts per square foot "

So for MH, you will need 130~200w in your 2x2 space, a 250w is more than enough but I think it will be fine if you can handle the heat well.
