Hello all, I am still figuring out my grow system but I am leaning toward the quantum boards. I noticed a package deal they have on there website with a 4x6 tent with a clone area and several lights, one being a 550 v2 plus one hlg 100 and one hlg 40. it is on there homepage toward the bottom. The cost is $1149.00 what do you think? I also thought about building my own boards. What do you think? Thanks.

Depends on how much your time is worth to you. I bet that package deal would work great and save you time but cost more than DIY. The cost of DIY QB setups has dropped a lot that’s what I personally would do.

:passitleft:

Being the skeptic that I am
I'm more inclined to think that this is just a way for HLG to get the sale price up
You can probably get a better deal on a tent separately and from someone else.
When you consider that the HLG 600 sells for 692.00, it it worth the extra money?
The smaller lights are nice I guess, if you really have a need for them

I also agree with those above. They package it to jack the price up. DIY = best savings and best option if you want something exactly the way you want it. Take my qb132 x12 pics below. I chose not to go with the higher boards and went with qb132 3500k (3500k is for veg and flower, 2700k best for flower, 4000k+ best for veg) because i wanted specifically the perfect light footprint. Every corner of my tent is getting the light it needs and my plants all love being directly under the light. if i had gone with a more powerful one like say a 550, the footprint wouldnt be as good as how i currently have it. By choosing the lower priced board it allowed me to both increase my watts per square foot and light footprint (coverage). Being able to adjust the drivers is also incredibly nice, i can power these up to 1000w total if i wanted to. In my case it just seemed like the absolute best option since i wanted all plants to get light at all times. It comes down to what you are looking for :D

I'll be ordering another set of qb132 to make another x12 frame for my 4x8 tent. Sometime soon when they get more in stock.

LRS drivers:$114.94
Ketotek Energy Meter Multimeter:$45
3 orders of 4x qb132 Lights on amazon:$399
Frame from lowes: $85

If you are new to this, I don’t see why you’d want your tent to have a specific clone area. You would choose something like that, if you had space constraints and a completely separate space for veg or flower. The short answer is it sounds expensive.

My set up:

4x4 tent

5" Extractor and filter *** edited. Thought it was 6

Light to cover 4 x 4 in bloom. An LED will be 1200W but only if its a good one. It’s the PAR value that actually matters. Vyserage's set up sound very good. I have a bunch of different lights.

Some fans. I have 2 little clamp ons at the top and an inductor that draws air through a vent in the bottom.

Some ducting and duct tape
4 x 5 gallon pots (fabric ones). 4 X 1 gallon airpots
Grow medium (Canna Terra Pro plus)
Nutrients

PH pen and up/down

2 x 12 litre buckets

Wiring/string for tying up/down branches.

Small pruning shears (sharp and good quality)

Lights are a personal decision not to be made in a package deal.

Like grow method, we can all talk for a long time the pros and cons of our lights. Bad lights are bad but there are many good lights.

You should decide on a light based on a number of factors that matter to you.

The size is relevant to the tent wise. So if you can find a combo for the light that fits your space that will work but don't get some random light.

I have like the whole spectrum and I use them ...all.

I have the most top of the line thing you can buy and I use that in bloom.

I have a 24 year old 400w magnetic HID still great for all stages.

Two gen 1 mars hydro LEDs which I have not taken to bloom yet but are fantastic otherwise.

I have a super cheapo under $100 brand new LED advertised to do 2000W equivalent on the way to try this next bloom...LOL

All of them I use.

Lights you will collect if you spend your money right...otherwise you will be on Craig's list dumping them.

Tents....I have only used nice ones but the cheap ones look fine. I dont think you should bundle a fancy light with a crapy tent.

Some good thoughts here and some other ones as well. HLG talks there tents up pretty well, you get enough lighting to run both stages right out of the box. If your comfortable with the price tag do it. I doubt you would be disappointed with the products.

I realised um ...

So I grown in a lot of poorly built cabinets or retrofits to things that weren't meant for growing. So that is why I assume a poorly built tent would be ok.

The issue is really durability...so like how long before the zipper breaks.

I got the top of the line tent and broke it darn near immediately. Like 2 weeks into bloom, so I didn't return it. I have done like 4 more grows in the tent no issues I just gotta be gentle.

I don't know how much there is to it for us Bulls in the China closet types. I am probably going to build a wood shed now that I have space. I will break any tent. Then make it work...

I bought mine for £115 MarsHydro a couple years ago. I don’t know if that is a lot, but I really like it. It’s not up permanently, so I break it down and store it when I’m not growing. I haven’t broken it or lost anything, which is very unusual for me. The zips were made with a gorilla in mind. It’s pretty bomb proof. All of the holes for anything you might need are already there.

I also agree with those above. They package it to jack the price up. DIY = best savings and best option if you want something exactly the way you want it. Take my qb132 x12 pics below. I'll be ordering another set of qb132 to make another x12 frame for my 4x8 tent. Sometime soon when they get more in stock.

LRS drivers:$114.94
Ketotek Energy Meter Multimeter:$45
3 orders of 4x qb132 Lights on amazon:$399
Frame from lowes: $85

So all in your 4x4 lights costs $645? Are the multimeters necessary? Is there veg/bloom settings? Is there a chart for PAR values.

It looks UBER cool !!! Any regrets?

very nice set up. What size tent are you running these in? Also can you show a picture of the driver and wiring detail? I think I am leaning toward diy for sure

Thanks :D I paid probally closer to 675 by the time i bought some screws and wiring. The multimeters are only necessary if you are wanting to see how much wattage they are running at, otherwise just adjust the drivers and wing it haha. There are not any veg/bloom settings, thats why i just adjust the drivers to put out 100 watts/ per row of light during veg, or 150w/row. Last 10 days of veg i push em 200w/row. In flowering ill leave it 250w/row. This is everything i found and saved on qb132.
Its unfortunately hard to come across someone who's done a good PAR test with the qb132 :(

4x4 tent (48x48x80)

Hopefully those pics help, but essentially all it is, is fancy wiring that my room mate threw together to make it look somewhat nice lol. The first time i had it wired up it was simpler looking. You've got a PC power coord i cut the end off of and added to the power screw, then he just used wiring to link it over to the other 2 drivers so all of em get powered. Then you've got the red and black wire going from the driver to the ketotek reader and a double red/black wire from the reader to a qb. He then used that little plastic splitter thing to just make it simple and connect 4x qb132. I dont fully understand the wiring myself, just know it works lol. It helps if you understand electrical (i dont :p )
