Third Grow Cycle: Switched To Coco & Perlite This Time, Bruce Banger & A Couple Runty Autos

Hello All. Back on 420 to learn as I go with the help of some of you fine folks.

I grew dwc my first grow. Turned out fairly well. I didn’t think I had my root zone fully dialed In compared to some people’s root masses I’ve seen.

Second grow I switched from a single tote to 2 pails. Ended up losing 2 to root rot somehow so I cleaned everything good and started another batch. Bubblegum from 00 seeds.

That grow ended up not too badly either but once again I wasn’t happy with my root zone. Didn’t get that huge root mass ive seen with others in dwc.

Third grow I started with some dwc again but decided to transfer over to coco. Hence the 2 runty autos. Tossed them into 2 gal coco perlite.

Sorry for the long story haha just trying to keep my situation out there for the help.

I started 2 Bruce banger and they’ve been above ground for 10 days or so maybe. Went right into 3 gal coco/perlite mix.

I still have 2 white widow in dwc but i think those will be getting root rot in the near future. Frustrating thing to deal with. No idea why either. Lots of air and 18c res temps but still root rot symptoms.

I’ve got 2 tents: 2x4 with a 320w QB from Kingbrite and a 3x3 with 7 citizen cobs @ 350w total.

I germ my seeds in rapid rooters and I’ve dialed that in now. Next time I start seeds I’m going to start them in solo cups then transplant. Seems like the better option than right into 3 gal. Too much water to keep the full 3 gal wet.

Heading to the hydro shop tomorrow probably to get the rest of the things I need. More fabric pots, trays, risers, nutes, perlite.... etc lol. Sucks I have all this dwc gear I can’t use properly.

I’ll post a few pics from my first 2 grows.

First grow with the single tote. Ethos Citral flo. Everybody that tried it loved it.

This was the 00 seeds Bubblegum. Wasn’t the most bubblegum smelling flowers ice smelt, but it had some aroma for sure.

Both these grows were in my 3x3 with the cobs.

After the second grow I decided that one tent is just too slow so i ramped it up to 2. Bought a 2x4 with a 320w QB. Decided to go with coco now. We’ll see how I can make that work. Going to use more water than dwc I can already tell lol

Good luck with the coco, I find it easier to maintain than dwc and yes you'll use more water, feeding 2 or 3 times a day to run off.

Thanks that’s kinda what I’m hoping. Increased grow speed over soil, less insect concerns, minimal chance of root rot.

Just have to get used to it. And buy all the new gear I need lol.

Both my tents currently. Crazy the colour difference between 3500k and 3000k with some added reds on the board. I had the intention of doing one veg one flower and I’ll probably get there, just have to get my cycles down first.

Once I get the hang of coco I’ll probably pop some expensive genetics like ethos and cannarado, maybe even run some regs from thug pug or In house and clone them hard to fill my other tent up then flower both at once

I should add that I yielded 11-12 oz off each grow so far. Really want to crack that pound mark. Coco might get me there with the option to scrog if I decide to go that route.
Those are good numbers, you've obviously done well and know what you are doing, coco is hydro so you're ahead of the game already. You should have a ph pen already, don't really need a ppm pen in coco though, ph to 5.8, feed daily to run off. I feed twice a day seems to work.

Yeah ive got all the vital equipment. Just need a few things to finish it off really. Paint measuring pail so I know how much water I’m mixing up, pots, trays, risers, more medium. Have the ph pen, ppm tester, etc.

Haven’t monitored ph really the first few waters, haven’t really added much nutrients. I’ll be sure to check what I’m adding moving forward tho.

As far as watering goes, I probably haven’t watered enough so far lol. I know not to let it dry out. Watered to a run off recently so it’ll be good for a day I’m sure.

Like I mentioned I think starting in solo cups is the way cause I can get away with using a lot less water.

I have never cloned before so I might try to get a few to take this grow for future reference.

Forgot to mention, as far as how many Times to water, some people that automate feedings water 4-5 times a day.

That's what I did wrong this grow a planted all 4 straight into 3 gallon fabric pots from Red Solo cups, way to much water next run they will go first in Red Solo Cups then one gallon pots and then in their final 3 gallon fabric pots
Peace out growmies!!!

Yeah I feel that. It’s not a ton of water, 2L is plenty of runoff in the 2x3g pots. I’ve got 3 seedlings just broke ground and they’ll be going into solo cups tomorrow or the next day.

I seen someone on here in coco, used 2 solo cups inside each other, one clear one red, to keep and eye on root progression and thought it was ingenious. I think it was @Kingjoe83

As far as solo-1g-3g, I think I’d skip the 1g and go straight to 3. Less transplant shock and I don’t think it will make much of a difference.

Update: bought a big(ish) evaporative humidifier for my grow space. Love that I can use tap water and not demineralized water. Saves money I didn’t want to spend lol got it 20% off so that’s an added bonus. Humidity was hovering around 20% due to the cold winters and heat cranking.

We’re at 40% range now which is ALOT better environment for my ladies.

Also started 3 seedsman Blueberry so I can utilize my second tent eventually. I’ve got plenty of seeds so I’m not worried if I get too cramped I can chuck one or two. At least I can learn some coco things from my experiences.

Bit of nute burn on my autos but they started in dwc and I had to transplant cause they were stunted pretty bad. They’ll probably grow small

Been using remo on this grow again so I can use it all up. Added some great white to this feeding and the next few probably. Should help my root system thrive.

yeah I agree it's a great idea to be able to check the root development verry cool to watch also!!!
