@Ratfink707... If I may jump in here. I am an outdoor grower. This is partly because I don't have the money to buy all of the lighting and all of the other equipment for a top quality grow, plus the high light bills, and partly because I have tons of experience growing just about everything else "outdoors".

My main point here is that, you would do very well if you would simply follow the methods given here from others about starting in Dixie cup sized pots then moving up incrementally as the plant requires it. Why? It flat works. Master gardeners have been doing this for decades for a reason. again, it flat works. If it didn't, they could save all that time and money and put sprouted seeds straight into large pots too. This is for most other types of plants, not just cannabis.

Also, when growing outdoors, most find far more success starting from seeds rather than clones. This is mainly a lighting thing than anything else. What I mean is: Because the "mother plant" is a sexually mature plant, it's ready to go to its bloom phase as soon as the amount of light hours of each day get shorter. So, when a new clone is placed outside during the spring time (like now) the clone, being a mature plant, will think that it is now getting close to the fall season and try to move itself into its bloom phase. This is all done using the plants own hormones. Of course, the days are getting longer. As the clone discovers this, it will confuse the clone and at some point will try to go back into its veg phase. All of this back 'n forth is very stressful on plants so I'm not surprised that you had a failure with this one.

Finally, when choosing seeds, be sure to select a strain that is well suited for your particular outdoor environment. I live in a very sunny and hot area, so I always choose strains that are well suited for hot and sunny locations. If I were to grow an indica, for example, that's suited for cooler climates, it would struggle and eventually die from the high stresses of being in the wrong environment. There are websites that allow shoppers to search for seeds based on outdoor climates. We're not allowed to post links to other such sites from here so I'm sorry for not including a link. A hint: "I love growing..."

Hope this helps... :yummy:

Yes I've been reading alot on here , the 3 seeds i had allready started in the big pots so figured I'd let them go see what happens as I have more seeds to try in Dixie cups if they dont go ,as for the new clone I did go with a smaller pot close to Dixie cup size get it growing and healthy for a few weeks before transplanting to bigger pot also now have my water decloranating container going and all my ph test and control supplies this should help to I assume my next purchase this week probably nutrients
Appreciate the responses and feedback as this is my first go at this

Welcome! Join me? :passitleft: I'm kinda new here too. Lots of good advice from lots of good people. I'm a few hundred miles south of you and our humble herb loves to grow in Ca. In my experience, plants I have cloned start indoors under lights and , when ready, need to be slowly adjusted to the warm California sun. I put my outdoor bound clones in the shade and gradually introduce them to full, all day sun over a period of about a week. My outdoor bound seeds go in full sun from the day they sprout. You will have awesome plants! These were grown outdoors in Ca.

Wonderful. I encourage U 2 continue the seeds that are already sprouted and growing in the larger pots because it may give U insight and knowledge. If possible, when U start other seedlings, try using what's been described here; starting with Dixie cup sized pot(s) and moving up incrementally. One thing that's also important: Make sure to use containers that have drain holes (i.e. Dixie sized cups that have them already, or actual Dixie cups that U've punched holes into).

Hope this helps... :yummy:

Hey man, win a few....lose a few, the survivors are gonna love the sun. I'll post a pic of my little Durban tomorrow. Stay safe and stay stoned!

Any thoughts on watering the seedlings ? I've tryed to keep the area moist around them every other day the clone I watered till runoff on friday after planting in small container and still have not watered as of today so a good 5 days ! trying to.let dry out for root growth as I've read alot on here but the seedlings not so sure and tomorrow will be 90° and I'll be at work 12 hours a day so I'll probably give a lil water to all tonight and hope for the best

I would suggest not letting it go a full 5 days without just a little water on the top and edges.... don't soak the container until the plant can use all the water sitting in the bottom, but a little water on top every 3 days or so keeps the metabolism high and the roots growing strong. Think of it as a morning dew.

Day 7 !
The two Durban poison autoflower seedlings
And the Girl Scout cookie clone are all still alive wish would grow faster but they are alive so that's good ! 1 question the red/purple on stems if clone is that a genetic thing or is it some kind of deficiency ? I have only gave them phd water.

Hey Ratfink!

Checking in again... Sorry about the seedling sprout that didn’t make it.

On smaller solo cups most upcan when the plant leaves grow out and extend beyond the sides of the cup. However you just uppotted them very recently, I think 9 days in the same container is not very long. The whole concept of uppotting is to get them growing vigorously and rootbound so the process of upcanning or transplanting them doesn’t shock or slow down growth. If you hold plant upside down while supporting the dirt around the main stalk very carefully you can slip the pot off, but if the dirt is loose it could fall away from the rootball. Look to see if roots are heavily circling the outside edges of the rootball. I’m thinking I’d go a bit longer before upcanning to next pot, but ultimate it’s your call. You get all the credit if things go well but conversely you will feel the burden if things go wrong!

Yes many plants have purple stems and petioles (I think it’s mostly genetics not a deficiency) but I want to hear from others with more experience.

Good work on keeping them alive & healthy!

Got a little rain through the nite and this morning hope it dosent cause a issue with over watering that I have been trying to avoid !

Update 2 weeks
Its been a lil overcast and had some light rain last couple day hope dosent slow them down any. Not sure how there doin cause I'm new but in my online research I have seen some autos with more growth at 14 days and some with less so I'm just hoping for the best! And the gsc clone seems to be doing ok its alive better then my last attempt only lasted 4 days lol !

Hey 707,

What’s the word?

Your plants are coming along very nicely!! That big plant in the smaller pot - she’s got some legs on her.... that girl needs to be looking for a larger home soon! How long has she been in that container?

She should be drinking a lot more than the others. She’s not a tiny seedling anymore, she’s moving on up. Don’t be afraid to hose her down good with water, go slowly and evenly, give her time to drink it all in, keep giving small batches all the way around perimeter until she gives you some runoff. Then let her go back to the dry side. After a good soaking she will get up and run!

You know you don’t necessarily have to add nutes to every watering on a young plant like that. You can set up your routine to be water, water, feed or you can go water, feed, water.

My 2 cents - it might be good for rooting out new clones as they like higher humidity, seedlings don’t need humidity to be quite as high. I think the problem might be the magnifying glass effect where it (sun) burns up leaves / gets too hot inside the plastic case. It might help the actual germination for a bit but in full sun I’m thinking it’s gonna french fry the contents.

Give it a whirl and see how it works out! Also wanted to add don’t worry about others plants are same age but 2X bigger. Keep your garden going forward & you will be great!

Thanks for the feed back ,yeah the clone is growing I went to a bigger pot last weekend 6 days ago I peaked on the roots this morning and allready roots at bottom and sides and yeah almost drying out every day or so , I have a 5 gallon root pouch and a 20 gallon smart pot I planed on the 20 gallon for its final container not sure if should go in the 20 gallon now or go in the 5 then the 20
