I've gone ahead and looked at the pictures you've posted, have you tied them down or are they just that type of plant. Or are they not going to stretch more? I'm new to this and you see so many different ways of doing this.

They were all topped around 5th node and have not been tied down, but some of them are tied to stakes so they don't fall over.
Luckily the stretch is well over ;)

Now subbed in for the rest. I know the gdp is a cross between big bud and something else (cant remember the other strain). I have 1 of those as a free seed growing in a 2L pot on my balcony. Seems to do well with feeding and it starting to branch heavily since i topped it. It not going to be a big plant as it only gets direct sunlight from 2pm till sunset and it only in a small lot. Sits around 7" tall just now and gonna force flower soon so hoping it will double in size with the stretch. Shame the rest of my outdoor grow has been hampered by not using compost. Got round to repotting 4 of them last week and if they show significant increase in size then will do the rest (or at least some of them, difficult to get 80-100L of soil to the site by myself so will do what i can).

Those crystal cookies you got are just pure bud porn! So many crystals and looks like it covered with icing sugar. You only see pics like that on a seedbank site. Look forward to seeing your final results.

Day 105 (57)

Budrot and damage control

So I found budrot in 4 of the 9 plants yesterday...

I immediately removed all infected flowers and did an emergency flush and removed a lot of leaves for better air movement around the buds.
They will be chopped in a few days, I would like to have gone 2 more weeks and done 2 flushes but I have to cut my losses.

Damage:

Short Green Crack - 3 biggest tops and 1 side bud
Mutated GDP - The entire major of the two tops and some side buds
The Freebie - 2 tops
Short Crystal Cookies - 1 top

They were all thoroughly checked and so far the rest looks fine...

I also discovered my circulation fan was not really doing anything anymore so I hung my good fan in there which is powerful on the low setting and oscillating aswell.
Plus this is the time of year where the spores are active and I had a tent full of buds and leaves and no air circulation - lesson learned...

The fuzzy strawberry Banana was chopped to make more room and will be made into hash (0,5g if I'm lucky)
The mutated GDP was not flushed and not allowed back in the tent, the scraps will probably used for hash too.

So all in all a major set back but a lot learned, and I since I got another similar tent I think I'll have set veg tent and flower tent, this will also make it easier to grow sativas and indicas together, and I guess I can fill out the gaps by having a few autos in the veg tent ;)

On a positive note I must say, once more but louder, that the Crystal Cookies are just the frostiest and stickiest weed I have ever seen, and though they are mediocre yielders I'm impressed with what they have become in 8 weeks from flip :)

I'm sorry to hear about the bud rot. That must have been a tough pill to swallow.

Not good to hear about budrot. Lesson learned though. Never had any problema with budrot when i grew indoors years ago, perhaps i was lucky. I did have an oscillating fan on 24/7 though and the cupboard was fairly roomy so plenty of air. I wont have any problems with budrot on my outdoor plants this year as they are so friggin small. Be looking at a taster or 2 at best from each plant. Not using any compost was my problem so not gonna make that mistake next year. Already found a new site and gonna get soil out to it when i can (a bag or 2 at a time) and leave it there till i am ready to set the site up (sometime during the winter, give it time to settle and to cook).

Sorry to hear about the rot :(

I like how you defoliate before harvesting, I'm always scared to remove too much but I'll try to replicate what you did. Any tips are welcome :)

Also, I noticed that you didn't trim the leaves on your buds, do you prefer to do it dry?

Bummer bout the rott... Do you have a dehumidifier in your flower room? I seldom see it inside, but I do run a dehumidifier and keep my flower room under 50% at all times... Clean the flower room well... Use a weak bleach solution, and throw any soil that came in contact away or wash well Congrats on the harvest... Leasons are a bitch,,, but least it didn't get everything.......... Easy to see once you pull that first curled up dead leaf outta the center of a bud and say WTF? I see it every year outside. Matter a fact that my harvest signal when rott starts...

Yeah, but it's my own fault for not defoliating and not checking the fan, but it's not that bad and I only found a couple of gram worth of mouldy buds during the bud wash and trimming.

Hope you do better next year, try looking into getting some photoperiod strains as well, I can point you in direction of quite a few danish strains that'll do well in Scotland and maybe also be able source some underground photo/semi/auto seeds ;)

Also, I noticed that you didn't trim the leaves on your buds, do you prefer to do it dry?

The defoliation was to improve airflow while the soil was drying out from the flush, and more leaves was removed before harvest.
If you defoliate to improve airflow or get light to budsites, go with yiur gut and use scissors (don't pull the leaves off), before harvest and bud wash I remove all leaves with little or no trichomes and trim the day after the wash.

That plant hasn't been flushed and will be use for hash so no need for trimming, the rest were chopped about a week ago and I'll cut the flowers from the branches and put them on the scale the coming weekend:)

Yeah it's square kick in the balls, but at least it wasn't a disaster and I think I lost less than 20% overall and I get to walk away a little wiser:)

I usually have around 35% RH in that tent but that's with less canopy and a working fan :laughtwo:
Starting now it'll be a perpetual flower tent and I think I might get a dehumidifier, but I'll make sure to not have more than 7 plants in there at any one time, I can always fill out the ''gaps'' in the veg tent with a few autos;)

I'll get a harvest/dry weight update when I'm done jarring, I have high hopes for some of these strains :smokin:

I am very apprehensive about trying photos outdoors after my first time and failed. Even though you and other may claim success with various photo strains i find it would take too much work to get out and tend to them all the time. Any photos for me will be grown on my balcony where i can keep an eye on them and protect them from any bad elements if need be. But i am open to listening to these strains you mention and then do some research.

I am curious to hear you say you wont trim before making hash with one of your plants. I would advise getting rid of all stems and fan leaves as that will really taint your hash. What kind of hash are you making with it? Bubble, oil or something else? I can give you some pointers for making really good bubble hash.

Harvest & Dry Weight

The ladies were chopped on Day 111 from seed and Day 63 from flip, a bit sooner than I wanted to but I didn't want to risk more mouldy flowers..

I did a Bud Wash with the H2O2 bucket just to be sure, and washed the uninfected plants first ;)

After 8 days of drying they were cut from the branches and dried for another day before being weighed.
I found an infected Green Crack nug when I inspected them after drying, so I broke apart the buds from that Green Crack and the mutated GDP that had the worst bud rot, before jarring and luckily I didn't find any more.

I didn't expect a great yield with these strains and the bud rot didn't get my hopes up, but I think the results are decent enough :smokin:

+ a lot of very frosty trim and popcorn that will be used for making hash, so will the fuzzy Strawberry Banana that was chopped before flushing the others.

The Strawberry Banana is super nice ganja and after drying it's the stickiest of the bunch, breaking apart 1g of bud leaves about 0,1g hash on your fingertips:thedoubletake: and it's very strong smoke too.
So though one of the two plants was crap from the start, this strain is just crazy potent and will certainly be grown again at some point and I recommend that every grower tries it ;)

The Crystal Cookies are very stretchy and not great yielders, but probably have more pure THC than most high yield strains, it's herbal hash :)
I usually smoke joints with import hash mixed 50/50 with weed, and I like smoking this weed pure since it already have the full bodied smoke you get with hash, this goes for the freebie as well which is rather kushy ;)

The entire flushing and harvest process was quite rushed and I didn't get many pictures when the chopping was going on...

I understand that, but they have the mould resistance most autos lack and in mediocre summers they will stay free of mould until October and sometimes even November ;) Crosses with Royal Dane, Thyphoon, Guerilla Gold etc. are good choices.
There's a lot of breeding going on and many new auto and semi-auto strains are emerging every year.

I make dry sift hash so a little leaf doesn't matter ;)
Probably not gonna get into making bubble hash anytime soon, but I'll take that offer when I do :passitleft:

Congrats on the haul my friend. That strawberry banana sounds like some serious head stash. What does it smell and taste like?

Only been curing for a couple of weeks so it still smells rather ''green'' but beyond that it has a very dank kushy smell, and it tastes earthy, sweet and like overly ripe fruit.
Instantly hits the face and makes you smile and slowly and easily moves into a very comfy heavy indica stone.
First weed that gave me a noticable effect after vaping half a balloon, which basically means 0,05g of product ;)

Congrats on the harvest... Looks tasty especially that Mendo Kush x Cookies & Cream x Dosido. Hopefully, she smokes as good as she looks......... Keepem Green

That cool to hear about breeding going on and new strains that may be suitable here. One of the other reasons for doing autos is that the turnaround from seed to harvest means i am done by end of july/begin of aug. Even having a dry sept/oct would be beneficial it means having to make more trips to the site to get things done. In some ways i am rather impatient but also the longer they are there then the more trips i need to make out to tend to them increasing the risk of either being spotted, caught or ripped off. Unless you have a really concealed spot then once vegatative growth dies off then they could also be spotted from a distance.

I may take my chances one year of growing a semi-auto or a new breed of mould resistant auto. My grow last year suffered minimal mould and this year, well, didnt suffer any mould but my plants were too small to get a chance to mould up. Posting a couple of pics on my journal so you can see how small they were (chopped yesterday). I did lose one plant to mould but it was barely even a couple of joints worth so didnt even bother bringing it home with me.

Drive by... Is alot going on with semi/autos wood be a good term. Called fast versions. Or Super Auto's because they tend to veg longer than most regular autos. Hell, I get a 10 footer out back, and acouple 5 footers of a super auto from Flash Seed. Any good? I'm asking you? I sure don't know,,, but will in another month. But I'm really impressed with these 'fast versions' afew breeders been working with. Claims of mid-Sept harvests,,, which will beat the rains I get hammered with come Oct 1st. Bud rot kills it's share here. But these started flowering hella early,,, and even with 8-9 weeks,, she'll finish mid-Sept. Claims are these are photo plants,,, but they did flip into flower almost 3 weeks ago whatever that means.. Like 5% auto genetics but as fast, 42-52 days flowering cycles. I'll drink to that... Sweet Seeds has some,,, Royal something has some,,, oh Seedman has acouple. Fast Version'. From the looks of this one,,, a BBxC-99 Fast;

This was 3 days ago,, Portland Or area. She'll work. If she's any good as smoke,, and this is getting frosty allready,,, I'll be growing alot more next year. I lose alot every year to rot,, decent mature bud is better than premature, great buddage, that starts to rot. I do make alot of RSO and budder with 75% of my outdoor weed anyways. But it wood just be nice to mature some buds that are done to harvest, rather than infront of rot... Iffin that makes sense.. does to me... So far these fast versions 'Might be the ticket' for moist and early seasoned places? Damn, I'm a babbling.. Just I see potential in these strains for places like the PNW and Canada outside maybe Englands Coast??? Like I know.....

All the mainstream autos are great outdoors but they lack the hardiness and mould resistance we need up north, but Dutch Passion have some nice outdoor strains both photo and auto, Shaman, Holland's Hope, Frisian Dew just to name a few.

Check out hybridsfromhell and cannaseeds they both have some outdoor strains bred for 55° north ;)
