Hey Everyone, Im Back !:Namaste:
Thanks for being very patient with me as i have had very busy schedule lately, This grow is still Alive. I have plenty of good news to update you guys with and unfortunately a little bit of bad news.

06/13-

All 4 plants were Topped for the First Time (Around 5 - 6 nodes)

06/21 -

All 4 plants responded well to the Topping, however Aurora Indica is still proving to be the runt of the group (the stem is about 55% the size of the other plants.)

06/22 -

Transplant time for AK-48 and Nirvana Unknown (this is where the bad news comes in)

Things started out great, With 2 succesful transplants to 5 gal Smart pots, spreading Xtreme Gardening Mykos and Azos

Ok, heres were things go Downhill fast.

For some unknown foolish "First grow mistake" reason , i felt like AI wasnt performing as well as the others, just a overall shorter and smaller plant than my other 3 babies, so i decided to defoliate her a bit to get good light penetration in the lower area of the plant... It became very obvious to me my baby did not like this treatment and thought it was a horrible idea, i left the room to use the restroom and BOOOM! i knew it wasnt a good sound, either my light had fell on my plants or one of my babies had fallen... it was the second.

20160622_235318.jpg
20160623_000127.jpg

but wait, it gets worse... thirty minutes later i step into the grow room to see my baby had fallen again due to my error, but i had become convinced of 1 or 2 things, either 1) the plant was telling me i had really pissed it off ( because no other plants had fallen at all) or 2) the plant was cursed. either way i apologized to it and told her i wouldnt give up on her. Here she is after the 2nd fall and branches removed.

07/01

Preflowers begin showing on Ak-48

20160628_155351.jpg

After 48 days since sprout and 37 Days since i started "veg" I switched to Flower on 07/07 (12/12 Lighting)
I topped very often between days 18-34 of veg to maintain a even canopy so when i switched to flower i could have a wider rather than taller plant that would produce a nice harvest and use all of the light available.

Day 1 Schwazze
20160707_230732.jpg

(Also known as Defoliation, a method of removing all fan leaves from the plant at beginning of flower, used to refocus the plants energy on producing flowers instead of leaves, and giving the entire plant better light penetration.)

( Disclaimer: Do not attempt this unless you have the sugars and nutrients to replenish your plant after removing all fan leaves, which hold these. it is important to do this to prevent severe shock on the plant. If Done correctly, Your plant wont skip a beat, View What the plants looked like 5 days later after recovering below. I am using success nutrients )

07/12 Day 6 Flower (You can clearly see the stretch in a 6 days period from Day 1 of flower if you scroll up to the previous photo)

07/18 Day 12 Flower (Everyone Shooting out pistols except the biggest plant, I've heard the tallest/biggest plant is usually the boy.)

And Then there was 3.

Sadly I Was right , Nirvana Unknown was removed from the garden and killed when it showed its sex to be male. No Boys Allowed in this Garden.

Again we Strip the ladies :thumb:
Also did a little rearranging and decided to hang one of the 8 bulb t5s vertically, so now the quantum t5 8 bulb lamp is hanging directly over all 3 plants with the other lamp vertically ( i did this because heat was an issue so ordered a 8 in 400 cfm exhaust fan , should be here tomorrow and all 8 bulbs can be used in both lamps, as daytime temps are currently 81 F with all 8 bulbs in the badboy and 4 running in the other t5 , totaling 648 watts, with all 16 bulbs on i would be at 864 watts.)

Update 07/30 - Day 24

Both T5 lights are now hanging about 12 - 14 " directly over the highest branch in the canopy and the plants love the change ( you can really see the difference in 12 bulb / 16 bulb light intensity in the pictures below )
Currently at a total of 16 54W t5 Ho bulbs = 864 Watts
Daytime Temps Stable at 79 - 82 F RH - 55% | Nighttime temps 70-72 F Humidity - 45-50%
Safe to say the Stretch is finally over , Now time for these ladies to stack on the weight.

3 Day difference - 07/27 | 07/30

Re: Zo's First Grow 5x5 - AK48 - Northern Lights - Aurora Indica - Nirvana Seeds - 20

I am gonna follow the rest of this. I am currently growing AI for my setup and it looks like I am one whole day ahead of where you are at in flower. I am interested to see the results because you defoliate pretty hard and you don't use soil. Both things I am currently looking at for future grows. Good luck with the end result!

Re: Zo's First Grow 5x5 - Ak48 / Northern Lights / Aurora Indica - Nirvana Seeds - 20

Also on my first grow, happy to give advice and point out where I went wrong if needed! If you start a journal let me know! Please feel free to sub to mine too! links underneath!

That was to the user further up, not you Zo, you look more clue'd up than me :D

Hey Jolly , I forgot you had said you had a journal going before me. Im going to follow the rest of your journal, you are a couple weeks ahead of me. Good luck with the rest of your grow:thumb:

Thanks for following along and good luck with your grow as well, i noticed you and i are very close in flowering schedules, do you have any idea of the day/week you plan to harvest? I finally got my schedule in order to where i can post more frequently. I remember you asked how tall my AI plant was.

Just over 9 inches tall, but like i mentioned its wider than it is tall and keeps climbing back to the light after being bent over.
20160730_223311.jpg

This is what the plant looked like before i bent it over to even the canopy, wouldve easily been 12-14" tall

20160724_1958161.jpg

But like i said, i wanted a even canopy with a bush of buds where nearly all colas receive maximum light penetration so the lowest bud is nearly the same distance from the light as the top bud if that makes sense; this effect

Everything I have done is 100% by feel. I have used zero schedules. I will harvest when I see enough amber terpenes on my plant. It's just been the way I've done the whole thing so it'd be hard to get on any sort of a schedule now.

I vegged for a little over 7 weeks. My plants were LSTd from the beginning and ended up a total of 11-12 inches tall. I also wanted the even canopy :). My plants are pretty wide but I haven't measured the width.

When mine stretched they all stretched a little different in lengths but after doing some work after they stretched (yesterday) I was able to get my even canopy back. The plants were just the right size if not a little too big for my space but now I know!

My one mistake was probably not cutting a lot of the low stuff off initially when I flipped to flower. I waited until they stopped stretching to do this and probably wasted some of the plants energy on this. Without complete defoliation I also had a hard time get light to penetrate low enough until yesterday.

My LST job was all over the place too.. Yours is much cleaner. I really like he structure of your plants a lot. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the compliments, i really appreciate it. This is my first grow so its been really great to watch the entire life cycle of a plant from seed to flower, and hopefully a great harvest. i must admit i have to give a lot of credit to the book Three A light which i mentioned on page one of this thread. There were so many youtube videos/articles/websites/forums about growing i found myself starting to be confused with exactly what technique i would use from all the millions of opinions out there and thats when i came across this book. Its really like a step by step "How to grow great cannabis for Dummies" manual except 10x simpler in my opinion, IM NOT RECOMMENDING THIS FOR ANY MINORS, but its simple enough i feel a 10 year old could read this book a few times and grow plants as good as mine.

I vegged for nearly identical time as you, As far as you cutting off some of the low stuff i don't feel like its to late, i plan to cut off all lower portions of my plants that arent getting any light penetration and one final defoliation on day 30-31 I have been studying some post from miami.mango on IG and he consistently gets 3+ Lbs per 1000 watt light and he defols i believe until around day 40-42 if im not mistaken, with 3 total during flower, one at the beginning, one after week 3, and one last final day 40-42 or different depending on how the plant reacts to the defoliation. I also read on a forum if you pplan to Defoliate heavy during flower you should begin pruning your plant in veg, I didnt plan to LST the Aurora indica as the books directions were to top every 2-3 days on Days 18-33 of Veg to keep a even canopy without tying the plants down, also removing anything during that period that i felt was going to be to low on the plant. ( this is why the structure of Ak-48 and Northern Lights are very similar , AI just got tied down after she fell multiple times.)

Ok Guys, Coming up on week 5

08/01 - Day 26 Flower

Updated of the Garden -

or should i call it the Tanning booth?:grinjoint:

For anyone interested in the light spectrum, if 1 = 6500k Blue Bulb and 2 = 3000k Red Bulb, the lights are arranged as follows,

21111121 21111112 Giving the center of the canopy a really good mixed spectrum manipulation of real daylight. At the end of week 5 i plan on replacing 3-4 of the Blue bulbs with red to signal to my plant the summer is coming to a end.

Also for anyone who didn't notice, most of my photos have been taken with my cell phone camera, i decided to put my DSLR Nikon to use to snap some High quality pictures of the girls. This post is a combination of cell phone/ DSLR photography. Moving forward i plan to only use my nikon to snap photos of the garden. Expect to see plenty of high quality photos in the future.:ganjamon:

Update 08/03 - Day 28 Flower

Today ends Week 4 and Tomorrow is the start of Week 5. The ladies stopped stretching around day 22-23 and colas are starting to pack on some weight and free the frost, if you look a few post back you can really see the difference in bud sites on all 3 plants from 7 days ago on day 21 of Flower to now. Re: Zo's First Grow 5x5 - AK48 - Northern Lights - Aurora Indica - Nirvana Seeds - 20

Hi Zo, I think we watched all the same youtube videos on defol. I'm eager to see your results with it.
I went full throttle on my plants. All came back quickly from 3 week defol, but in my enthusiasm I overdid it and kept defoliating daily through week 6. Some of videos mention continuous defol during flower and I juice mine so it made sense for me. At the end I have mixed feelings about results and whether or not I helped or hurt my yield. Can't really compare different strains, but interesting to note that the ones I thought I had ruined by week 6 had highest yield with densest buds (but looked like hell) and ones I thought were thriving on it and looked beautiful had lowest yield with airy buds. In hindsight I wish I'd stuck to scheduled defols.
Your plants look great. I'll have to read back through to see all you did to get here.:bravo: And stay subbed to see defol done right.

Hey Kingston, Thanks for stopping by to subscribe and i appreciate your compliments but i believe you may be mistaken, as i mentioned a few post ago to asesino, I learned the Defoliation technique from the book ThreeALight by Author Josh Haupt

Day 1 flower before/after

Sadly, i had to kill the biggest plant in the tent ,( the plant on the far right taking up nearly half the tent ) turned out to be male and was removed around day 14 of flower when sacks showed. I know this will have a big effect on my end yield, but hopefully since the plant was moved out towards the beginning of flower, the other 3 plants will split the remaining light/energy the male plant wouldve taken up and yield big results

Day 28 flower -
. The Book cost $500 ( I got it on sale for $100 off )... YES I KNOW VERY STEEP, but when you consider the book is a step by step of how to grow "3 pounds per 1000 watt light" if you follow the instructions and get your environment dialed in, after the first harvest the book will pay for itself and i will have made my Return on Investment. I looked at it as a business decision and feel like ive already paid for the book well over. Some new serious growers will pay a consultant 10x the price of this book to learn all of the information i learned from reading this book; I mean from Seed Germination, to cloning, transplanting, Veg pruning/ topping, defoliation and when to do it, equipment needed, environment, room setup, feeding schedule, when to transition to flower, to how to harvest and cure, its all there literally with professional pictures on every page to guide you. For a professional it might not be worth the money but for a beginner its a gold mine. Like i told asesino there were so many techniques and opinions out there on how to grow for beginners on youtube / ig / websites / forum post, i began getting confused until i came across this book. I needed a tried and true method to produce the biggest yield possible as a beginner. This is my first grow and the goal is to harvest 1 Pound + of Dry Flowers from 800 watts.

Re: Zo's First Grow 5x5 - AK48 - Northern Lights - Aurora Indica - Nirvana Seeds - 20

Glad to know such a book exists. The way you described defoliating matched what I recalled, but video can't compare to step by step detail along with everything else you need to know for it to make sense. There are some YouTube videos with good info but they tend to raise at least as many questions as they answer. $500 is not too much for that kind of return.

Thats exactly how i feel about most videos on youtube; they raise more questions than they answer , with this book its the opposite. And whats even better they have a full time phone/email Customer support team for anybody who purchased the book at your disposal so at the beginning when i had a few questions about mixing my nutrients they responded the same day describing everything i needed to do in detail and told me if i had any more questions "please dont hesitate to reach out, we want to help you reach your highest yield possible." You get more than just a book for $500 dollars, you have a team of some of the most experienced colorado growers (consultants) out there to offer help at any given time during your grow cycle and future grows. Priceless imo for a new/average grower. I honestly would've paid double the asking price :adore:
