Alfalfa horse feed as top dressing

Anyone try to use alfalfa horse feed as a top dressing? I decided to give it a go on my outdoor grow which is getting minimal nutrients because I think the soil is fairly rich.
It was $23 for a 40 lb bag.

I’ve used alfalfa pellets in my soil mix, worked out just fine.

That raw version looks pretty cool too and label says it has rosemary extractives so that should help deter pests.

If nothing else, this stuff looks like it would be an excellent mulch for cannabis with the added benefit of nutrient content and pest deterrence.

No wild horses around by me but many deer so I have a 7 ft fence up. There's enough other things for them to eat right now so they haven't bothered these girls.

the same as deer a horse wouldn't like the cannabis. they might be attracted to the alfalfa, but the cannabis itself would deter them.
