Dread's Comeback Grow

Hey Doc, Glad to see you are back to the growing, It really bummed me out how the last one ended.. Keep the grow on the down low as we do not want a repeat occurrence.. The plants are looking good, keep up the fine work Dread man.... :peace:

Cool new gear bro. Looking forward to seeing how well it performs under your care. Good luck.

L8ER

Nice to see you Grooster. Thanks man I'll do my best!

sorry about the cocksuckers who took your stuff, this is something i worry about as my roomate and myself have some nice stuff, and my operation.

but theyll get whats coming to them, personally if i would have found out who did it, and it was a "friend" id break every bone in their legs.

but the good part is that youre ok, and back on the ground running. youll have some more dank to smoke soon enough.

also try to get a safe that bolts to the floor maybe? or like us we have 3 pitbulls, they tend to do a good job of detering people from breaking in

Thanks alot Weedy, I try to think about it as little as possible. I have since moved on to a better pad, better friends, and an although I dont have all the cool stuff I lost, some good did come out of the situation. Just be careful of who you let in your place man.

The doc is in! Good looking set up you got there, wish you the best man!
Im locked in..

Thanks for the support Irie! Means alot comin from you... Always good to hear from you man!

Sorry guys and gals I meant to give y'all an update on the grow yesterday. The weather was amazing and I couldn't bear to be indoors... my bad :surf:

I think we are about to reach the 20 day mark... I'm not great at keeping track of ages and that sort of thing, so it could be a few days +/- but the point is the buds have really come in quick! These babies are buddin' out hardcore. I've been very busy lately and I think I may have actually missed the initial sexing. To me it seems like as soon as I caught their first pistils, they were already throwin little buds... They recieved a transplant four days ago from their cramped pots into 4 gallon buckets. The new medium is a 70/30 mix of Roots Organic potting soil and Perlite.

Ever since I started running the Fresca, I've been able to keep the plants ridiculously close to the light. I'm talkin like 4'' from the bulb! According to the chart below, thats too close...
Foot-CandlesHPSDoneNow1.jpg
I think I'm gonna keep them at around 4-5'' and see what happens. After all, I can put my hand directly under the glass and feel little to no heat. Any questions, comments, or criticism? I would appreciate some second opinions on this.

I absolutely love the Fresca. Its silent, I don't have to worry about ducting and air movement, it keeps the light amazingly cool, and was very easy to setup. The only drawback of course is the massive 50 gallon reservoir in my closet... Other than that, its great. I'm not running a chiller of any sort because I've only got a 400. If I were running 1000w, I would need some method of heat extraction. For now I've got the high volume of water doin the work for me. As an experiment, I left the room completely shut for a 24 hour period, and the temp only reached a high of 73 degrees!! Mission accomplished!! :cheer:

Almost forgot, I finally got the wing hooked up. Now were really cookin!!

Raised the light up to get the perfect shot.... but somehow failed to realize the photo came out blurry... :smokin:

I turned her around so you could see the results of her lst.

I finally got off my ass and finished the cloner... Took five clones from the big lst'd plant, and three clones from the smaller more traditional looking plant. The seeds that I germinated are also showing their first set of true leaves, so I've got quite a garden on the way...

In the cloner, I am using GH FloraBlend compost tea, and some Hygrozyme.

If you noticed, the cloner had some leakage issues. I put the cloner in a bigger tub to catch the excess water and cut a hole in the side for the water to flow back in. It sounds pretty ghetto right? It works perfectly. Any water that makes it out of the edge of the lid, simply flows right back into the cloner via the hole in the side. Just think of it as a janky ass double res cloner.... Don't laugh! For $40 it's a bitchin' piece of machinery. :grinjoint:

Replaced the old OdorSok...

And finally, I leave you with a couple of nugs that I'm smoking on while I wait for my girls... Although I don't know the strain, its very aromatic and potent... It has a very unique smell. When it first hits your nose, you get a sweet grape or berry flavor. After a couple whiffs, a more roasted earthy smell comes through resembling a hazelnut or cocoa bean... I've been sitting here smelling it for a few minutes now and I can't quite put into words the stank this bud gives off... Its one of a kind, your just gonna have to trust me on this one. Wherever you are, whoever you are, thank you to the grower who cultivated this tasty batch of chronic.

Peace everybody thanks for stopin by!! I will be more diligent about updating now that we've got some nice bud porn to look at... Be prepared for macros!

Later! :peace: :ganjamon:

Nice job so far. That fresca is kickin some asss bro.... As far as how close you have it dont worry.. When I was running my 400w I had it about 4 - 6 inches away in an unventilated hood, and was aboslutely fine, you should do great with your 400w at that height. During budding is when you are really going to enjoy that fresca, im guessin you'll prolly be able to bring it like 1-2 inches above for the last couple weeks, which will be awesome to watch...

keep doin ya thing DD.. we're all rootin for ya :cheer::cheer::popcorn:

Great plants and great nugs! Love the little specs o purps in them nugs too. Good description of the smoke, I always have a rough time describing flavors. I am digging on that Fresca as well. You can really throw some watts in there. Are you sure you would need active cooling if you stepped up? 50gal sounds like it could absorb a lot of heat...neat setup.

Nice nugs doc. plants are lookin mighty fine as well.

Where is that chart from, do you know? never seen that before. I would have to say it can at best be a general guideline because the speed at which any plant can process light depends on other metabolic factors like available CO2, temp, available nutes, age, etc. best bet is get them progressively closer until they look like they don't like it or you don't get the coverage you need, which ever comes first.

It is winter time you have to remember, in the summer you might have to think about a chiller and maybe even cooling the air on top of that. . .

I like your initial reaction to the fresca though. . . If I already had a 55 gal res of RO going, do you think it's a better idea than an aircooled hood with an ice box for a 1kw hps? have you seen the iceboxes?

You should look into these new air-water hybrid systems...

IT uses a res w/ a chiller, and copper radiators at the end of your lamp. You use a fan to blow the air over the coils to chill it. It works really well because chilling water uses like... 1/3 the electricity that chilling air requires. Neat systems... They also have a water cooled co2 generator unit.

*puff*

pm me a link ultra, that sounds like somethin I wanna check out.

Dro, just google "ice box hydro innovations" it would be very easy DIY if you wanted to as well, but for a ligle more than a hundred bucks, why not just buy it done and make it easy.

i'm thinking of getting 2, its should be a cheap way to help me manage temps in the summer. I already have a chiller, and thats one of the biggest expenses. . . the only thing is do you think the fresca would be MORE efficient, seeing it doesn't allow any air to see the heat from the bulb because it's completely enclosed? if the water was brought realy cold at night when the lights were off, either way i bet a 50 gal res would stay cold a hell of a long time.

Thanks Dro! Your right man they dont seem to mind being that close to the light at all. They have been beasting out since that last update! The buds are in!! Photos tonight!

OH dang, they will be monster plants with that light close up on em like that. I could sit and look at them nugs for a while too, they are very easy on the eyes.

Great work and good luck friend!

Thanks Sisco! Glad your always stoping by man! Can't wait to see how those JW crosses turn out for you! :ganjamon:

Thanks Grooster! I had a hard time coming up with a smoke report but as I take a hit and re-read the description, it turned out to be a pretty accurate assessment of the flavors and aromas this strain gives off. I really dont know what to expect with a 1000w... I am planning on purchasing one for the next grow so we shall see!

Thanks for comin by WoF! I stole that chart from butchers thread I think, maybe somewhere else... It's not my chart but I thought it might be a good reference point. I'm still keeping them about 5'' from the light wighout any negative effects.

About the Icebox... I have researched them, but found them to be too much work overall. It seems as though you have to have both air and water to cool with the Icebox... Why use both when the fresca eliminates the air all together!? Just my opinion...

I would have to go with the fresca man. Eliminate the need to cool with air and just focus on the water...

Potted my clones in Roots Organic soil last night. They had about a foot of root growth in the past five days. Ever since I added the FloraBlend to the cloner they have been very happy. The clones are on a 24/0 schedule under two 23w blue spectrum cfls...

The plants in bloom are doing great except the smaller one has been showing some signs of calcium/magnesium deficiency. I watered with extra cal/mg last night and hope that helps get her back on the right track.

Here are some photos I took last night... Hope everyone enjoys. :grinjoint:
