First OLS Grow

Hey everyone. Have a few grown under my belt but first time mixing my own soil. It's a Coot mix (recipe in mix). I'm growing Autos in final pots so I concentrated nutes in bottom 2/3 of mix. Temps 70° / 60 RH. 800W LED. Strain is LSD-25 from FastBuds. This plant in particular I think got stunted early on and did a bit of stretching before I lowered the lights. I believe there is also some N toxicity going on. Appreciate any feedback!

Hey welcome to 420 Mag, I think you meant "LOS". I grow in Coot's mix also. I never heard of concentrating nutes at bottom 2/3 with Coot's. I just mix all amendments and pot up plants. It looks like those yellow tips could be nute burn, hopefully it will grow past this... Good luck with your grow!

Yes with living organic soil or super soils many folks put the hot soil mix in bottom of pot and use a light mix up top. There are numerous ways to manipulate the ratios. You’ve got some N burn on tips and that’s ok.... but if you had N toxicity then leaves would be dark green and clawed downward. That strain has some purple colors in it, I’m guessing that’s an auto and yes it has started into the flower cycle.

Hey Laughing,

Forgot to say earlier..... welcome to 420!

If an auto is stunted it can greatly reduce yields. I’ve seen autos that grow for 10 weeks and barely yield enough for a pin joint. Then other growers can blow your doors off with massive yields on an auto. It’s very easy to stunt an auto just one mistake is all it takes. Photoperiods are much more forgiving....

Yes, I've grown Autos before just first time mixing my own soil. Today this one looks a bit better up top to me, not as much claw. Although I am now seeing a "rust" spot on lower leaf. 2 other plants (also Autos, different strain) planted in same mix looking ok.

Coots mix is a soil mix you put the ingredients together and mix it up and plant into that soil mix.

It's not Coots mix if there's: " so I concentrated nutes in bottom 2/3 of mix "

There are no "nutes" in the Coots mix.

Tell us about your soil and your recipe??

I have studied the inputs of some people's super soil recipes. I can't say i have studied the amount they put in. I can only comment that the amounts of each input you used are grandiose. In a ~150 gal planter i would use about a cup(s) of a particular input, say Alfalfa Meal. With that amount for a 7 gal container, i can see the advantage of layering, since it might be hot. Though i have never had a soil be too hot for even seedlings, once it was properly cooked. Once mixed, did you let it cook for a month to allow microbes to break it down?

And welcome to the site. :)

Roger that, Laughing - apologies, I didn’t mean to make assumptions there! That’s beautiful with the purple, she’s a looker!

Agree with bobrown - Not saying it’s the right way to do it, just that I‘ve heard of folks mixing or layering with more than one blend or strength of soil.

Yes I agree Patient many mix their own soil but most don’t allow time to cook it down, that’s the most important part of building a soil.

I apologize, the pic showing the recipe is a bit confusing. I'm using 7 gal pots but that mix is per 25 gal. And by "nutes" I'm just talking the amendments / ingredients, Im adding nothing synthetic. And I did allow to cook about a month, watering regularly, maybe should have gone longer. Probably should also let the cover crop get better established first. They are looking happy today, however still getting a bit of "rust" spotting on outer part of fan leaves. Related to excessive N? Thanks for inputs.
