its gets pretty tough catching up, the only time i can catch up is if i get on early around dinner time in the UK, this is usually when others are not online so i can then catch up, but come 6pm its crazy and theirs loads of people updating journals, i like to check the current grows and offer help and advice to new growers, but i have not had chance to check any current journals, i might check in their in an hour or so and see whats going on

me too, i was a bit paranoid when i made that one, im still going to have to stop one day as my production increases just for safety.

i want to be a loud and proud cannabis warrior, but i also have to look at reality. my life does not have strong enough foundations right now to take too big a hit. later as i seperate my family life from my 420 life by many miles i can relax a little more and when my finances reach a certain critical mass i can then be free again to poke the man in the eye and say 'yeah i smoke pot...do your worst and ill just shout it louder'

but for now i think im safe doing another journal for history's sake...im sure after knowing you all for so long now, you at least deserve to watch me get my grow dialed in and show my first real big success =D

Totally understand mate; scale makes all the difference between a rap on the knuckles or a lawyer. Whilst attitudes are slowly changing its still going to be 10 years I reckon before things truly relax from a political standpoint. If the government isn't willing to listen to the advice of the police or people like David Nutt, who they employ for their scientific credentials, then we've still got a wait unfortunately!

indeed. its such a damn shame.
i would feel blessed if it became fully legal and i could produce it legit as a company. its about the only career choice i can think of where i would get a warm fuzzy feeling when handing over a cheque to the inland revenue. There is a shocking turn over of cash in the black market for weed nationally, if it was sold per gram in a store for a fiver with 50% going to her majesty's tax system that would kill most of the illegal trade over nights and funnel millions of recreational money back into the economy .

hell i reckon the tax could probably pay the NHS bill for smoking AND alcohol related llnesses

There are a lot of very sensible arguments against the Misuse of Drugs Act and criminalisation, for many drugs, not just weed. The benefits in tax revenue and reductions in crime would be huge in the long term, and are just a start. I believe it's very much a generational thing - older generations generally view drugs with fear and negativity, primarily as a result of years of propaganda and very little scientific fact, and they make up the majority of voters currently, whereas succeeding generations throughout history tend to be more liberal than their parents.
The tide is turning but it won't be until the 70s/80s generations and their children make up the majority of voters that a government will be brave enough (and sure enough that it won't lose them an election) to seriously take it on as a policy.

Great GIGA i see you in everyones journal just saw you started a new journal and thought id stop in and say HI :) subbed and love the hempy or organic /soil thing your working here ive built hempies and dwc hempies but i dont know if i completly understand the no nute tap water only waterings but im sure i will when you really get going :peace:

whilst i enjoy the right to personal freedom, im not too comfortable with legalising other substances. im sure a few of them are even fairly safe these days, but non of them share such a long and distuinguished history with our species. having a ready to use medicine/spiritual catalyst/leisure drug that is as easy to harvest as a piece of fruit is borderline divine providence..if you believe in such things.

dont get me wrong, im not squeamish or prudish about mind altering substances, but my problem with them is either due to a real mortality cost that some can cause, and for other compounds my concern is identical to my fear of a lot of commercial products. we just dont truly know what crap we are saturating our bodies with. time and time again we have seen in business and even in medicine a product gets released as safe, but then we discover generations later that actually it has a flaw.

i would rather feed my children snake venom than allow them to use current day party drugs...at least with venom you can build an immunity to most which protects you from future exposure at toxic levels. you cant really say that about coke/lsd/xtc/speed which are all thought to have permanent long term negative effects.

cannabis is above and apart from such drugs, i would even put tobbaco and alcohol into that other group as they do massive harm compared to the percieved benefits.

Don't panic !!!

It's "hydroganic."

ok ill try to explain a few underpinning rules of our plant that explain why my method should work so well.
our plant can produce 3 types of root, soil, air and water.
I dont know what air roots are specialised in, but one can guess they are optimised for o2/co2 exchange

water roots like to drink, they are not really built for taking up nutrients. think like a human, you could drink all the soup and milk you wanted, but whilst it behaves like a liquid and contains water they dont quench thirst.
(most synthetic nutes we use these days are effectivly salts we put in the water, this is the easiest way to nute burn your plants too)

Soil roots only like a little moisture and they are specialised to extract nutrients from the organic debris in soil. there are also many living creatures and plants that have evolved over the course of history to form symbiotic relationships with the roots of other plants, these natural boosters are best used in living soil.

a split level hydro bottom and organic soil top gives the best of both worlds. your plant eats from the soil and drinks from the water. this should allow it the fine health and taste of organically grown produce, but with the increased growing speed afforded by unlimited drinking water ;)

ok no seeds or lights today, maybe tommorow, lol.

Many appologies for the blurred pictures, those joining us from my previous jounal know my camera is broken and wont focus, and im stll looking for my lost microsd-usb converter so i can use my phone.

without further ado, here is the HydroGiGanic pot

A standard 2L drink bottle, perforated all over for water/air flow
all filled with identical amounts of fillers.
1 jug of generic gravel
im currently using a chopped up peat pot and a cup of perlite to act as my transition layer...i would much prefer something like a few layers of hessian potato sack.

my soil mix is pure organic compost with 20% added perlite.

Pots weigh in at 1575 to 1600 gramms each after bottom half has been dipped in water and soil is at its bagged up wetness. this number will come in handy to let me know if enough water is seeping upwards into the soil just to keep it damp

just a mini update guys.
i now have my soil, my lights and my seeds, in fact im good to grow.

i have installed my hps into my grow room and am using it to finish off grow 3.

truth be told i still have a ton of tidying and moving around to do before i make my final layout descisions.

i want my main auto flowering room,a small flowering room for non autos ( i have a few in diffent grow styles atm, mainly i want the big bud 2 i have to breed with my KC 45. im hoping that path will lead to a KC45xbig bud 2 auto strain. i will be breeding for shortness to tone down the kc45 to be better attuned to indor growing (size related). since i only have 1 BB2 and gender unknown, i cant really breed out the bb2 first to get my favorite primary traits, im just gonna have to breed them to get a self breedable hybrid, then sift through all the variations it throws out till i find the traits i like...long term projects, lol
and finally i want a 24/0 veg room. even though my primary flowering room will contain plenty of blue light, i want a seperate place i can stick any type of plant in its youth and not fear accidental pollination. and then i have to think about a location to deal with pollen extraction safely.

Hello Giga,
I did not want to clog up DP's journal with questions so I came here to ask you:
What kind of lighting schedule are you on since you do not currently have a timer ?

i worked out that a 90 day grow using 2x 600w will cost £130 in electric @ 24-0...meaning i have to produce at least 30 grams to break even on electric. i dont calculate nute costs as im only using phostrogen and seaweed. the phos is like a 2kg box for less than a tenner and i use half a teaspoon per 10 gallons, lol

edit: i just realised we are talking in grow 4 and not grow 3. lol

i will NOT be using phostrogen for this grow. i will only be supplimenting the organic soil with organic liquid seaweed and more of the same compost brewed into a strong tea (when i feed, i cant allow the liquid to flow deeper than the soil, i want no nutes in the water.)

I looked at the link you provided and also looked at their other timers. They have a pic of what looks like a digital timer in with the mechanical one, but there is not a price for it.

It's like the ones over here. There is a mechanical and a digital with battery back up that look very similar except for the face/clock. My lights came with the Sunleaves mechanical timers, but I bought the digital ones because they keep exact time and are great for power outages too. If I were you I would see if they sell those as a combo also and if the price difference isn't too great, now would be the time to eat the cost. They are really nice to have and well worth it my friend. IMO
