Any where from 2 weeks onwards or the 5th node/branch set.

you can even also do a 12/12 from seed... It will veg out for about 3 weeks and show sex in that 3rd, if not, 4th week.

Err... You don't need to cut the lights back just to figure out what sex the plant is. It'll start producing preflowers when it becomes sexually mature (at about the time it would start flowering under 12/12, I suppose).
Doesn't matter especially if you were going to flower at that time anyway - well, except that you might appreciate not having to devote time/space/nutrients/light to what might be a male plant, lol - but if you aren't ready to flower, it's not necessary.
