JDubAllen's DWC Unknown Strain Grow Journal - 2015

Days 48 - 50

Wow, so I'm pretty much less than a week away from starting flowering. I've been reading loads on the subject and been prepping my grow tent accordingly.

As well as the flowering bulb I bought a high-quality thermometer and hydrometer at my hydro store. Upon finding out about how important humidity can be I also bought some DampRid, a CaCl-based product which lowers the humidity in my tent to around 50%. I know 40% is better for flowering, but for now it'll have to do.

Days 51 & 52 - Flowering Has Begun

So yesterday I replaced my nutes and swapped out my light. Let the stretch begin. And hopefully within 2 weeks or so, I'll start seeing some bud development.

Day 52 - First Day of Flowering

Super quick question about flowering transition!

Should I flush my plants first? And if so, for how long?

I read to continue veg nutes for the first week of flowering to encourage the stretch.

Days 53 & 54

So my plants appear to be pretty damn happy. Just judging by the photos, is there anything I can do to help the plants?

Days 55 & 56

So aside from the two main stems heightening slowly over the last few days, everything's been quite quiet.

But there's been a pretty big development in the last 12 hours or so. The teeny-tiny heads of calyxes are beginning to sprout from the nodes. Slowly and inconspicuous, but most definitely there. Hopefully within the next few days I'll see white wispy hairs beginning to spring out.

Male or Female?

I'm gravely concerned that Lefty may be a male. Please give me a professional opinion on if these growths are male or female flowers.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am sad to inform you that Lefty is, in fact, a male. He is developing small clusters of pollen sacs around his nodes. This is unfortunate due to Lefty being substantially larger than Righty. However, every cloud has a silver lining. Upon inspection this morning, Righty is beginning to shoot out tiny pistils from many different areas of her bodies. Hey, half a loaf of bread is better than none, am I right?

So today I shall be taking a few photos of Lefty to show evidence of the male flowers and then I'll be cutting him down. It'll be a shame to see him go, but at the end of the day he is not welcome in my garden.

Days 59 & 60 + Lefty

So, as far as my plants, I have one now. Bit of a bummer, but that's just how the cookie's crumbled.

So here's the evidence of masculinity on Lefty. Please observe the small clusters of balls beginning to develop. From my research far and wide across many different guides, forums and websites, these balls mean male. And since Righty has begin to shoot out pistils, it even furthers my belief that Lefty is in fact a boy.

And then the last couple of days photos. The stretch definitely blew up Lefty. Righty, holding her own pretty well. I'm excited to see where she goes from here.

Days 61 & 62

Pistils are starting to become more obvious. And, after even more research, I'm pretty sure that this could be Chocolate Chunk. But I don't know for sure. :p

Days 63 & 64 + First Pistils

Not much to say, just doing my usual update. From what I can tell the plant is growing happily. Everyday I'm seeing more pistils. And I can clearly see the tiny trichomes beginning to develop on the pistils and some of the leaves.

Days 65 - 69

There's been a lot of growth in the last few days. Righty's gotten much taller, and she has loads of pistils and calyxes all over.
Oh, and the 4 day absentia has been due to Fallout 4. Sue me! :D

Days 74 - 77 + Buds

Out of curiosity, do you think this plant is going well? I've seen pictures of other plants around the 4 week margin and they seem like there buds are a lot more developed. Or am I just being paranoid?

Been far too long since my last update. Buds are coming along nicely. Trichomes beginning to develop on the pistils, calyxes and shake leaves. Exciting progress.

Days 83 - 101

Hey folks. So I know it's been like 18 days since my last update. Really I've just been letting my plant flower, and there's been plenty of progress.

Me and a mate of mine spent a bit of time researching, and we found out what this strain is. White Siberian.
And if my counting is right, January 1st will be the start of the harvest window.
Now since I've never done this before, when should I start flushing?
Also, from an outside perspective, how is my plant looking? Is she looking close to ending her flowering?

The best way to tell when it's time t harvest is the color of the trichs if you have a microscope you can see them go from clear to a fogy white to amber. Amber is the color we are looking for ! If you don't have a microscope then you can judge by the color of the hairs. Once the buds mature the hairs will turn orange/red if the plant is still developing white hairs then she most likely is not ready to be picked. I'd give her another 2 or 3 weeks. As for when to start the flush. I use soilless medium. I give pre harvest nutrients about a week and a half -2 weeks before my planed harvest date depending on how often I water. Then the last week nothing but ph adjusted water. Hydro can't be much diffrant :) good luck and happy holidays
