After posting a few hums and haws on this magnificent forum and getting some fantastic feedback (thanks Henry), I decided that I would take the next step up and start a grow journal to help involve people in my grow.

A bit about myself and my grow. I am located on the South Island of New Zealand and managed to germinate some skunky bagseed that I stumbled upon. Having always been interested in horticulture I decided to do some planning and get a small indoor set up going.

Grow Space Specs:

Tent- Indoor 4 tier microgreen house ($20.00 NZD)

Exhaust fan and ventilation- micro oscillating fan fitted into 15cm diameter exhaust duct.

Air intake- A larger oscillating fan blowing air into the grow room (ideally I would like to buy another fan and make a similar system to my exhaust to help introduce air. This will help create a more stable atmosphere).

Heating- As it very cold at night here I have brought a second hand heater to run at night when the lights are off which keeps the temperature from dropping below 70F.

Air circulation- Another mini fan mounted to the wall of the growspace.

Lighting- I wired my own CFL fixture with a total of 11x24W CFL bulbs (9:2, Blue:Red for Veg and 2:9 Blue:Red for flowering) Vegging light schedule at 18 on 6 off.

Grow Specs

Strain: Bagseed (supposedly of White Rhino genetics)x 5
Indica (Specifics unknown)
Current progress (Veg- 19 days from sprout breaking soil surface)
Indoor
Soil- Daltons premium potting mix (The best I could find locally, everything has slow release ferts but this had a good medium base). Blend of Bark Fibre, CAN Bark Fines, Coco Fibre and Pumice.
Pot: Space is a problem so I have currently got 2 plants to 1, 2 gallon pot and one plant in it's own pot.
Light: 264 W CFL homemade fixture (mixture of blue and red colour temperatures)
Air cooled: Yes
Temp of room: 82F-70F
RH:40-60%
PH: 6.8
Pests: None
Watering schedule: Weight testing pots seems to be every 3-4 days at the moment. I am currently cycling between water and ferts (at 1/4 strength) each watering to help prevent salt build up.
Nutes: Veg: Yates Nitrosol Original (NPK: 8:cheesygrinsmiley:6), Flower FLAIRFORM GREENDREAM BLOOM (NPK 2:winkyface:6)

Now to the good stuff. The photos!

I will try and organise them into chronological order to help give you a true perspective on my progress.

Please comment your opinion, any pointers, bah anything to do with the good old devils lettuce will do haha. Enjoy

First three photos were of my plants at 10 days old.

My first ever attempt at wiring a light, took me bladdy ages but managed to get a finished product, I don't think it's too bad myself ;)

Day 17: I decided to top four of my plants to help get two new colas forming. I will look to start LST in the next two days. I only have a few more months left until I am away for a month so I will need to try and rush harvest.

First update of progress coming at you!

Today is officially day 20 and the plants are really looking sexy, showing great growth, colour, and bushiness- happy days :cheer:
I decided to try my hand at some LST on two of my more developed plants. I think it went well, I took the photos a few hours after LST was done.

I am going to feed them one more round of veg fert at 1/2 strength and then flush them before starting them on their bloom ferts a week before I switch to 12/12, I'm hoping with the current progress that they will be pushing the 13inch mark by then.

Anyway, no more bullshit. Here are the goods:

A birds eye view of the two sets of plants that are sharing pots.

The topping seemed to have paid off with the plants not showing any signs of slowed growth and recovering almost instantly.

Yeah the plants seem to be loving life, fed them with one last round of veg ferts today and they have kicked into life. The topped and LST plants are coming along very nicely each with three strong forming colas. I think three will be enough for my first grow. And yep that is my attempt at a CO2 Generator, it seemed to work pretty well. Happy sunday smoking people

Hey man,
Plants are looking quite healthy - nice job!

I'm curious - are you planning to keep those girls who are sharing a pot in the same pot throughout your grow?? If so aren't you worried about them getting root bound and/or competing for food/space? If you already mentioned this; my bad. I just read this through quickly.

Also that DIY CFL is bad-ass, but hope you did some testing to make sure it's safe (heat, wiring, etc..). Not trying to a be a debbie downer here dude, just stayin safe you know!

Whats going on.

I've been away for a few weeks so haven't been able to update the progress. So to answer your questions cogreen, I did plant on keeping them together if they stay female but it is looking like they are getting a bit tight on space so may try and depot them and loosen the roots in water to get them separated without too much damage. Might just leave them in their pots though. I had a mate come around and check the lights for me and said they are all good.

Ok now for the progress. It is now day 38 of veg and I am about to flick the lights to 12/12. I've had one (the plant in it's own pot) turn male on me so I had to cut him down. Another one is starting to show signs of being male. I'll upload the photo of it. Lemme know if you think it has to go. I'm pretty certain that she is in fact a he and needs to go.

Other than that they are looking healthy!

Here's a picture of the two pots looking good.

Now this is where I need your help! Is this definitely a male?? I definitely see balls but it looks like leaves are coming out of them.

12179608_10156232578150571_2107769817_n.jpg

Also any advice on how to safely separate the plants or any ways to kill the male and remove it without causing rootrot to the other plant??

cheers!

Looks like you have everything under control sheeba, plants are loving it. Is that some DIY CO2 i see on the floor?

Hi mate,

Any advice on the male looking balls? They are looking more and more like testicles. Think I'm gonna try remove him. Also going out to buy some big pots to transfer them into so they have a bit more space to grow during flowing. Switching to 12/12 tomorrow.

Lemme know what you think.

Cheers!

Yo Sheeba. I would say yes that looks like a male. To be extra sure do all the google searches you can on it. If your not completely sure leave him for a couple more days until you are. Now for removing him, I really don't know. Id probably cut him down as close to the soil as possible for a start. Then maybe try giving him a pull, or having a little dig down to investigate.

Yoyo,

Updating my progress. I now have 2 of 5 plants left because 3 turned male. I transplanted the remaining two to a big pot to give them roots a bit of space. Also put in a screen to help them grow evenly. They have been loving life so far and have started to show early female preflowers!

Here is the pic just after i put the screen in.

This is how they reacted overnight!

Happy smoking people!
Peace

cheers bro,

Hoping some fat buds form but i'm running low on time. As for the run off, I'm placing a tub under the mesh to catch all run off and limit the movement to the plants. They're now on half strength FLAIRFORM GREENDREAM BLOOM NPK : 2 : 2 : 6 every second watering.

I might have slightly longer then that but only by a week or so. I might have to pass them on to a close friend who knows what he is doing but that would be such a shame! I figure as long as they are female I can just leave them be and water them where they stand. Fingers crossed.

Whats good people.

Been a while since the last update- been busy with work. Today my first indoor grow experience comes to an end, which fortunately is not the same for the bud. The plants are at 5 1/2 weeks flowering under CFL's @ 12/12. They have been fed with 3/4 strength bloom nutes every other watering. Watering every two days with PH @ 6.6 Temp 70-72 f with lights on and 65-67 at night. They are looking heathy too. Reason why my growing experience is coming to an end is because I am leaving the country and so a friend is taking over when im gone.

Pictures.
