Nutes, I am confused: this is probably a really basic question

Hi everyone,

Not really tied to any particular grow I am performing, and also not really having any problems besides a few pests. I REALLY want to get the nutrient angle squared away though and I have some confusion.

So the brand I am using (AN) has a calculator that spells out like "Oh hey you are in week 1, use this much fertilizer in "X" amount of water."

You can specify the amount of water and also which product you are using.

This seems like a very "hydroponic" way of presenting the numbers but I am growing in soil.

So if it says "Week 1" and I choose "4 liters" it tells me I need 16ml for instance. So I mix up a 4 liter bottle of water, add 16ml of each of the 3 part nutrient and I use the entire gallon to water my plant.

This has been working as far as I can tell but it doesn't feel right. So should I be fertilizing more than once per week? If so, how does that work? Do I figure out how much water I am going to add over the course of an entire week and add that 16ml to it? Generally I am hitting them with about 2-3 gallons per week, including run-off. So should I be adding that 16ml to 2-3 gallons and watering with that solution every time?

It seems like this is pretty basic but I am just completely missing something. I have read everything I could find on these forums without a solid answer, my apologies if I am just missing it somewhere.

Thank in advance!

Your overthinking it. Mix solution. apply to plant. wait. Harvest. Enjoy. Most label instructions are pretty heavy, typically people with AN start at 1/4 -1/2 recommended rate and increase if needed.

Most soil grows will only feed once every two or 3 waterings.

EXACTLY the feedback I needed, I figured this was the case. (Overthinking it)

I have been using about 1/3 - 1/2 of the recommended dosage based on a few threads I read so that's good. And yeah I have been only doing about every 2-3 waterings. So I am on target. Thank you so much! I get it now.

May not be any help ;) and just a IMHO as folks opinions are all over the place even with growing Cannabis. Most folks mix their nutes as they need them, can get pretty nasty sitting around in a jug for a week or two. Those "schedules/guidelines" from the nutrient companies give you somewhere to work from, most folks go lighter than what they say and then go by what the plant(s) are telling you what they want. As not only does it vary by Strain on what they want for nutrients it will also vary on your soil as they not all the same to start with necessarily. Personally I go with the least amount of chemicals as I can get by with as I feel it can affect the taste (so who cares if it makes bigger buds, as larger flowers that taste like crap not preferred to smaller ones that taste good in my book ;) ). Plant looks good IMHO, so stick with what you are doing until she tells you something different.
