Hi Guys,
I am doing my first grow and am using different medium.
I am planing to grow in coco and also soil.

I got a coco brick and got about 14l of coco.
I rinsed it until it gave clear run off and buffered calmag with 6 ph water for 24 hours.
I let it dry now and will buffer for Cal mag again.

My run off is coming out to be 6.36
Is thai good or should the run off be close to 6.
I am going to pre buffer tonight again with ph 6 foe another 24 hours. Is that good ?
@Bill284 Could you please advise mate.

Why did you allow it to dry after soaking it in a weak calcium (etc.) solution? Accident?

I haven't used it for several years, but when I did, and pretreated it (I used calcium nitrate, but that's neither here nor there), I did not concern myself with the runoff.

I didn't have the digital ph meter and just used the soil ph so I wasn't sure.
I just got the meter today so doing it again for 24 hours. Is that bad?

Good morning @kisshell
2-24 hr soaks is optimum, but I've herd of people just doing 8.
Better too long than too short. ;)
If you can set it as close as possible to 5.8 that would be best.
But between 5.8 and 6.2 I believe is acceptable.

Stay safe

Thanks mate. Do we also have to check the run off after the buffer is done? How much should it be?
And can we store this coco for later use cause i will not use all ?

Once you rinse and buffer it properly the runoff shouldn't matter.
From what I understand there is no need to check run off so I never have.
If you want to store it for a while before using that's fine.
I used a big tub with a lid so it stays damp.
Don't let it dry out.
I infused mine with Bokashi, insect frass and mycorrhizae.
It creates microbes and fungi that feed and take care of your roots.
It's brilliant for growing big healthy girls.
Check it out

Probably not? (Guessing, but...)

@kisshell I use coir in my custom soil mixture. I get the coir from a guy who imports it directly from Thailand and India, and it's high-quality, low sodium, meaning it has already been washed. I use it strait and have no problems. My soil mixture contains calcium ferts. As far as I know, the only reason to wash would be to remove sodium and potassium. As an addition to soil, coir is fairly forgiving on the pH, because it's almost neutral.

Coir by itself is already around 5.8 to 6.8. I don't know the pH difference between unwashed and washed. I believe the coir I use has a pH above 6, putting it in the ideal range for cannabis growing. Bill's a coir grower... he knows a lot more.
