Steelcurtain22: Soil, GSC - 2022

Day 56 or 8 weeks into flower: Feel like Laverne(left) is closer to being ready than Shirley(right) but Shirley will have bigger or fatter buds. Same seeds yet they have really taken on their own looks and qualities. Lots of trichomes, lots of colour making for nice buds and nice pics!

Also have a question in regards to drying . So what is the ideal temperature and RH as I want to use the space under my front porch(cold storage) in the basement. It is its own room with a good door, nothing in it and completely dark. I tested the temperature and RH and it sits at 70-71 degrees with about 60% RH?

Just make sure u burp them. I use this rh packs. 58. In a self burp back. But I hang mine 4 days before trim then into bag another few days. Total about 9 I think. Maybe less. When ever it smokes good. And don't have to set it out dry little more to smoke . Easiest test

I like 60 f 60 rh about 10 to 14 days. Shouldn't have to burp too much after that
I was talking about drying room temperature and RH more than curing as I use 62% humidity packs and mason jars burping once a day for about 10-15 minutes over 2week period.

Day 60 into flower: Well it’s almost time to put them in 36hrs darkness before harvesting. I did 36 hours last grow and turned out really nice so may stick with that. Will be lights out Sunday morning at 7a.m. until Monday night at 7p.m. which will be 63 days(9 weeks) on the nose! If anyone thinks I could something different let me know, always open to trying different ways!

Wow those buds look beautiful steelcurtain22.. great job and look forward to hearing the smoke report.
Thx @Bionic Chronic NZ, yeah they are looking good, leaves not so much but almost time anyways. I will definitely report on smoke as separate plants, that’s the fun part, hahaha!

So still on the fence about drying room. It’s the cold storage under my front porch with a door, vented to the outside and completely dark. I’ve been monitoring the temperature and rh for about the last week and a bit. So far the highest temperature has been 21.3 or 70.4 degrees and low of 20.1 or 68.2 degrees and highest rh of 61%, low of 58% and I would also add a small fan to circulate the air. I hang the plant or plants whole and trim dry, I figure it’ll be about 10’nish days drying but will monitor daily? Then it’s curing in mason jars with 62% humidity packs burping everyday for about 10-15 minutes and a light shake of the buds in the jar as I only fill each 3/4’s full. Then it’s onto my next grow with my winning Mars Hydro FC 4800 480W light and 4X4 tent(already using tent). I’m thinking of doing 3 different strains just not sure what yet…cannot wait!!!

@Bill284 @7Dust2 @LKABudMan hope you don’t mind the tags, just thought I could get your inputs on drying room numbers? Thx!

Dry . Thing. Hang that sucker upside down about 5 days . Throw it in a bag till ready to smoke.. I have 58 RH things. And the self burb bag. Qt size. . Or just stick them in refrigerator in a paper sack. Like grocery bag paper sac. And wait another 3-4 days. Till smoke time

I'm no good on that. I just hang mine in the basement which stays about 58RH all year.. only raining days gets high. I just don't do it during rainy days. Then throw them in a bag. Get that final moisture out

Well last night was 9 weeks and both girls have been chopped and hung! So let the drying stage begin. My rh was a little high 62% but shouldn’t go higher, have a fan going and ventilation as theirs a vent to the outside. Gotta go by some mason jars as can’t find my others but coulda got lost in the move.

I hang as close to 60f/60% as possible. My last grow just got out of the closet a couple of weeks ago, and in the summer I could only get it down to 66-68f. Good enough. I put a humidifier in there to keep it at 60%RH.

I purchased a Wood Moisture Meter (WMM) on the advice of @No Pain and it's an easy way to really know when the buds are finished drying and ready to start the cure. You can get one for under $25, too. My last grow I probably would have tried bagging after 10 days, but using the WMM I went 12 days (and the WMM read 10.5% avg). The buds went into the bag right at 60%RH.

If you're going to purchase something for the cure, you owe it to yourself to look into Grove Bags. Once your buds are dry, you just put them into the grove bag and let them cure. No burping, no bovedas*. And the bags retain more terpenes than repeatedly burping jars. It ends up costing less and being way easier and better. My buds have stayed right at 60-61% in the grove bags, and I've don't need to mess with them at all.

* If I ever need to raise the RH in a Grove bag, I keep a bag of frozen stems. Just take one out and put it in the bag.

Good luck with your dry and cure man, those buds look fantastic.

Wow, thx for all the great info, will look for the bags rather then jars as sounds much nicer, simple is better. I would love to hold 60 degrees and 60% rh as it would be 14 days and wouldn’t need to cure from what I just saw in a video, funny you mentioned it. I’ll sit at another 68-70 degrees and 58-62 rh so see how it goes, will also freeze some stems, good call there! Thx again @LKABudMan

Question. What's normal rh on frig

Hey everybody, just checking to as it’s now been a little more than a week into drying Laverne and Shirley, constantly watching or checking the temperature and RH and going good. Really starting to dry but nothing is ready yet but not to far off. I did take note of @LKABudMan mentioning grove bags and went to Amazon and purchased a grove bag kit, should be good for curing now, thx again @LKABudMan! I’ll be back with more updates as I start dry trimming and weighing. Also the best part will be the smoke test! Take all and happy smoking!

Hello to all, been awhile but life has been busy and full of change! So officially done this grow. Drying took 14/15 days, bud looks great from both plants. Now I didn’t get what I wanted in respect to yield as I now see how this strain isn’t a big yielding strain. It’s all good though as I got 72g’s from Laverne, a little more than 2.5ounces and same from Shirley who finished at 77g’s also a little more than 2.5ounces, 5ounces in total! The grow bags are a great investment and will use going forward. As for the smoke of each plant, as I suspected Laverne is a little more potent than Shirley but both give a nice buzz. They both burn slow and even with no black ash or harshness and already feeling it before I’m done the joint, so very happy with the final product. I have to thank all the amazing members here that take the time to check in and offer help and assistance as well as their knowledge. It was quite the grow between the sudden move and unexpected accidents along the way but proud that I got both my girls Laverne/Shirley to harvest and now get to fully enjoy them!!! So will close out here but back real real soon with my prized (literally, lol) marshydro FC4800 and marshydro 4X4 tent and 5th grow, strain unknown still but cannot wait!!!!
