Jon's Experimental Single Sour Apple Autoflower Indoor/Outdoor Sunlight/LED Soil Grow

She is rocking and rolling! How tall is she? My plants are playing tricks on me. Haha. It’s almost like I have photos. But I’m not complaining. They keep growing and not dying so I’m good! Congratulations on Sue Ann! She is a rock star!!!

NTH
Thanks man, she's up to 26.5" from dirt to tip of cola.

Sue Anne Update
Day 58

She just keeps doing her thing. No point to keep repeating the same verbiage. Nothing has changed. At least for another week to 10 days she has the tent to herself. At that point the four new grow plants will be established enough to take over this tent for veg, and Sue Anne will finish out in the auto rig station. Then, when she gets harvested, the Chunkadelic auto will move into the auto rig and the new photos will have the tent to themselves. She still doesn't know what 80 degrees feels like. She needs watered about every four, maybe three and a half days. She continues to get fatter and sprout new growth daily.

So...the porn:

Sue Anne
Day 62

Nothing to say. I'm in love with this plant. I actually proposed this morning. Sue Anne said she'd "think about it." Ugh. You do and you do and you do for someone, then they say they gotta' think about it? Seriously? Heh. I hope she doesn't get too pissed in a couple days when I evict her and move her into a much smaller pad.

Sue Anne Final New Digs Update
Day 63

Ok, so it wasn't a few days, it was today. The Sour Apple is now moved into her final home, the auto rig station. It is going to be a little hotter and a little more humid than she would prefer in a perfect world. Temps as you see in the pictures will range from around 74 to 82. Humidity will range from around 50-65%. Ideal to finish budding? No. But good enough for the few days she has left? FOR SURE. She has PLENTY of ventilation and is getting hit with one blurple on full spectrum and the other on BLOOM (reds). The par level at the top of the bud is around 1320. It's a lot but I proved on Sadie that they can handle it. At least she could and this one can.

I also checked her trichomes, and she is all either clear or milking up. She's got a couple weeks left for sure, maybe three. By my relatively inexperienced estimation anyway, this is only my 10th auto plant. But she is doing well. Her lower leaves are beginning to purple up a little, which may stop now since it won't be 62 degrees at night for her anymore. We'll see. It will be interesting to see if she purps up despite not getting really low temps at night. I'm also going to finish her on 20/4, as she is no longer bound by 18/6 due to potentially sharing a tent. The only reason I can't finish her in the Gorilla AND begin veg at the same time on the photos is cuz she had the reds kicked in and obviously I don't want that for veg. Need full spectrum.

So there you go. Final home. We'll see how she finishes.

Photographs:

- Sue Anne in final auto rig setup showing tweaks necessary to keep her environmentally happy. The styrofoam and cardboard serve to focus the AC on the plant top to bottom and the fans are adjusted to hit her hard as well. Between the four up top and the two down low she has a ton of ventilation and is rocking back and forth like I want, since it's a bit more humid than a perfect world.

- Closeup of Sue Anne showing how silly she looks in a crappy old piece of furniture conversion piece. Lol.

SUE ANNE TRICHOME CHECK
DAY 64

Suddenly I'm generating purple with everything I grow. Lol. Yup. I'M doing that. Not the plant, not the genetics, ME. It is only cuz of ME that I have purple. :laughtwo::laughtwo::laughtwo::laughtwo: Obviously I jest. Psyched to see this girl has purple in her, as it's not completely obvious from the outside. The trimmed buds are going to be gorgeous. Anyway, here's three trichome shots from today. Obviously not ready yet. But getting closer. Ten days-ish or so I'm thinking. Enjoy. Sorry, a couple of the shots could have less light, I did what I could to reduce the glare.

And, 48 hours later, we have a brand new light junkie.

She's up!

I will take one sentence to pat myself on the back for now being 21 for 21 lifetime on popping and germinating seeds. It's the only thing I've never screwed up. Lmao.

Anyway, it's on like Donkey Kong. Today would officially be Day One of the Sour Apple Auto grow!!

DAY ONE.jpg
I only just started, but I'm 8 for 8 in germination so far.... knock on wood...

I only just started, but I'm 8 for 8 in germination so far.... knock on wood...
Lol! Yeah, it's a silly, immature thing to even keep track, but as it's the ONLY thing I haven't managed to screw up so far on any grow, I'm keeping track til the streak is inevitably broken! Lmao.

I've read a lot of journals where they don't pop worth a shit, and I'm all like ... that's right ... I'm a fucking natural.... or just as Mr. Miagi said "Beginner luck"!

Sue Anne Update
Day 66 (HSC counts from the seed popping, so in HSC language, Day 70)
First Flush
Natural Light Photo Special with perspective shots

Hi Guys - Day 66, or day 70 if you want to count the way Humboldt does. Sue Anne is beginning to show a few amber trichomes here and there - maybe 1%. We are real close. So today I end flushed her for the first time. I will be able to get two complete flushes in before she finishes, which in my limited experience so far is plenty. I have flushed all the autos I've grown in a similar manner and two has done the trick every time. To flush her I took her out of the auto rig and brought her out to the driveway, as flushing her in the rig would be extremely tricky with all the power cords and such. Way easier to put her on the driveway, and let the runoff simply run out there. Which also gave me the opportunity to take some real light photos of her, which is cool. Flushing her consisted of running 10 gallons of clean water through her one gallon at a time. I put five through, wait a bit, smoke some weed I grew (lol), and kill around 15 minutes. Then I come back with the next five gallons, again a gallon at a time with a wait in between each one of a few minutes. I guess in my mind the wait allows the salts to flow to the bottom and get closer to flowing out, versus just using the hose and a continuous stream, although I've done that too and it works fine. Anyway, after the ten gallons of clean water and another fifteen minute wait, I top her off with a gallon of water with molasses. For the last two flushes I double up on the molasses and use two tbsp. per gallon. A last sugar rush for the junkie. Soon Sue Anne will find out if she's afraid of the dark, as this plant is high enough quality to justify the 36 hours of darkness. So when she's ready in a few days, that's her next step and last one before the chop.

So some description of Sue Anne:

Appearance: you can see, but you can't see the plethora of purple tucked inside this bud - the finished buds are going to be gorgeous
Smell: SUPER strong, dank from the Sour Diesel side, sweet and fruity from the Magic Melon side
Density: I find it hard to translate how it feels on the stalk to what the final density will be, but she is heavy and seemingly rock hard. She is harder/denser than Sadie was at this point, for comparison.
Trichomes: Not sure it comes through in the photos, but she's covered with trichomes top to bottom. They're fairly longish - much longer than the trichomes on the Cinderella Jack were for comparison. The densest blanket I've been able to generate on an auto yet.

So we'll see how much longer she takes. We're going for around 10% amber. Daily trichome watch underway.

She looks great Jon!
Thanks man. Yeah, it appears she's almost finished popping new calyx's like the one you see in the top cola picture in the middle of the cola near the top. They turn red in a day. I think she'll still shoot some more red hairs out yet as she's a little green heavy and red light at the moment, and they have to curl in and all that, but I'm thinking all that is gonna happen in the next three days or so based on the trichomes and the speed with which they're changing. She's a lovely auto for sure. Thanks.

Gorgeous

I'll tell you what, I've never had interest in doing a SOG grow, but if this strain generally grows like this if left to it's own devices, it occurs to me that it would be perfect for that kind of grow. I could fit literally 16, maybe even 20 three gallon pots in my 5x5. A field of this strain. All with gigantic main buds and there'd be plenty of room between plants so they'd probably never even touch! Of course, that's IF they all grew like this one. Lol. I would say the odds of that are slim to none. But fun to think about.

Sue Anne Pre Harvest Trichome Watch
Day 68 (Jon time)/72 (Humboldt time)

Just four quickie trichome pics for you. We're at the "just depends where you look" point in terms of amber trichomes. You can see amber easily in two of the four pictures, and none in the other two. It was this way all over the bud. Some parts showing amber, others not at all. To my preferred harvest time, that means we're only a few days away. Maybe two or three. I highly doubt she'll go another week. (Caveat: She'll "go" as long as I let her go. And she'll continue to grow too. But her quality will start to degrade. Anything over 20% amber, in Jonland, is WAY too much amber. I go for 10% max.)

Anywho - here you go. Not my finest trichome picture work but you get the idea.

Sue Anne Sour Apple Update
Final Flush
Trichome Check

Day 71 (Jon time)/Day 75 (Humboldt time)

ALSO IMPORTANT SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT AT THE END

Today was the second and I think final flush for Sue Anne. Same as the last one, ten gallons of clean water flushed a gallon at a time with a break after five and ten, then a follow up gallon of clean water plus two tablespoons of molasses. This time I took all the cardboard shielding I have taped up around the attejiere to keep the AC in and flushed her where she stood. It was easier to do in the furniture piece than I anticipated, just had to re-do the cardboard afterwards. No problem. So she *should* be done with water in her life. I think. This one is taking her time finishing, going a bit slower than I thought, which is AWESOME, cuz she literally just keeps getting fatter and fatter. You can see in the picture how much she's filled in since the last full picture post. Still, it will take her five days at this point to drain the pot post final flush, as she's long past the point where the water uptake slows down and she's just in fatten up mode. Somewhere in those five days, perhaps at the end, she'll be ready for her 36 hours of darkness. But in my opinion she's still not ready yet. Check out the trichome shots and see if you agree with me, but I'm seeing little to no amber STILL. I hope it takes fricking forever. I seriously can't believe how heavy this bud has become. I had to stake her up as she was going to fall over to the side she favors. Lol. The plant is just beautiful, shades of green, orange hairs, purple inside that slightly shows on the outside, and a shimmering coat of trichomes. It's difficult to get good pictures under the red blurples in the furniture piece as my angles are limited and the light is from blurples, but they're good enough to give you the gist of it. Lol. Really really good auto, at least this particular pheno of this particular strain from this particular company grown however I particularly grew it was. :laughtwo::laughtwo::laughtwo::laughtwo::laughtwo::laughtwo::laughtwo::laughtwo::laughtwo::laughtwo::laughtwo::laughtwo::laughtwo::laughtwo::laughtwo: Sue Anne's fan leaves got crispy when she was outside, and at this point I just kind of rubbed to break down point the crispy parts of the leaves, and the way they look, with the squared off tips and all that, is from doing that. This plant is going to be exceedingly easy to harvest and hang. It is going to take me literally less than five minutes. I'm basically going to chop her at the base and hang her as is upside down in the dark. No need to trim anything off this girl to dry her, as the crispy leaf lost volume is pretty much what I would have removed before hanging anyway. And that heat and crispy did NOT affect the bud itself negatively at all. Nor has being in the auto rig where its a little hotter and a little more humid than she and I like. I make up for it with a TON of air flow from six fans coming from all directions as well as the AC unit set up to blow at the top half of the plant. She's in GREAT shape going in to harvest. The par level she's been finishing at given her proximity to the blurples, even with them on full reds, is around 980, which is plenty. It appears I may have actually grown a plant start to finish with little or no issues. WOW. Didn't think I had it in me just yet. But it seems safe to say now. Yay for me, lol.

In any event, that's the story with Sue Anne, and the photos are listed at the end as usual. The service announcement is this:

Our friend @Bill284 has had a pretty serious tragedy befall his grow room and subsequently his house. It involved a fire. While it's much more complicated than that, the bottom line is that the guy needs our help if we are in a position to help. He and his wife are living in hotels and stuff right now due to the house damage, and there are other factors involved making it worse, without getting too personal. Not just a rough time for them, a WAY rough time. This guy is one of the nicest and most helpful people I have met in this forum, and I'd like to think we are becoming friends of sorts, as many of you likely also feel. We're sort of a community and one of our own needs our help is all I'm saying. Most of you may already be aware of this as I have seen many responses in his journal. I just wanted to let anyone who is UNAWARE know that there is a GoFundMe page for Bill. The moderators have expressed not to post it in here for many good reasons which Bill understands, so perhaps you haven't seen it, but if you go to the GFM spot or Bill's journal you'll find it. If anyone happens to be in a position to help I wanted to encourage you to please do so. They will appreciate it immensely, and it's just good karma. Anyway, okay, I'm done. I promised him I'd do what I can to help and that included this service announcement. Moderators: I was trying to honor what I saw you said about this at the same time as helping to promote awareness. I hope I danced around effectively, but if not and you have to edit I understand.
