LED Pineapple Express Redux

driftme great grow i'm subd.

When you get to using your rock wool try soak it for at least 24 hours in a extra low ph'd water like 5.4-5.5. I used to have trouble with rockwool, and when I didn't soak them long enough and tested the run-off from a block it was super high PH that would easily cause lock-out.

I use jiffy pellets now they have enough nutes till you transplant just give clean ph'd water till root shows and it's broke ground then i throw in hydro system.

I found rockwool is a PITA if you live in a hard water area and dont use RO water. you have ph that jumps all day long and it's better to keep a low water level and change it a lot to stop build-ups.

I now use hydroton/perlite/coco for hydroponics, I would highly recommend hydroton it's ph neutral, reusable and clean. I use coco alot for plants from seed but it's hard to reuse and builds up salt easy.

and lastly unless you have them spots on a lot of leafs I wouldn't worry about it, they look very green and healthy plants to me.

Thanks Jimm! and thanks for the sub =] i'll check out your stuff!

yea I soaked the rockwool in low ph water overnight. I think my main problem was i was watering when i felt the rockwool dry to the touch. when i dissected the last seedling that died, i noticed the inside was still totally wet, and barely any roots. either way, i'm pretty wary of rockwool after burning through i think 8 seeds..

i heard jiffy pellets are extremely high ph too though. what's RO water?

my hydro system was filled with hydroton.. my main problem was the plants were dying before getting to that point. i'm certain it was a case of drowning, but since i only had a few seeds left, i went with what i knew for this grow =] i havent given up on hydro yet though, i just needed a successful grow in the meantime heh

good job with the fim!

Thanks! the purple kush has had 1 fim and 1 top on the main stalk, and 1 fim on each of the largest 2 auxilliary stems. the super silver got a fim and a top on the main stalk. i won't be doing any more cutting (except for clones), but i'll be LSTing it up.

I've found jiffy pellets really easy to use never had any PH problems with them, Or if you feel like paying more root riot pellets are even better.

RO water is reverse osmosis (RO) water it's a membrane filtration unit that removes ions and particles/salt etc. Should leave you with clean 0ppm water or very close to.

Good luck man

oh... i germinated 3 bag seeds i found from some disappointing weed. (same ones i mentioned previously). theyre now in some rockwool, gonna try this again. if i manage to not kill them, i'm just gonna toss them in the hydro bucket system and veg them until the others are ready to flower. not worried about them being tiny at that point, since theyre just practice and not my actual crop =]

I love LST. Seems to be quite effective. This plant clearly has 1 main stalk and 2 additional.

Will post pics of the super silver later today. I think I bent the stem too hard when I added the counter-tie. Seems to be fine, just not rapidly responding to this training like the kush did. Actually in general it's just a slower plant.

here you can see the third tie i've applied to the super silver. its looking much better recently =]

and my favorite kid..

you can see how many new areas of growth there are here. there are a total of 6 tiedowns now, i'm really training it to put the branches exactly where i want em. BUSH!

After your first little hic ups you've really turn it around, good job getting them girl in there place. Nothing like benting a young girl over ay? looks like 70's porn, nothing but bush lol.

Any update on the seedlings? Hope all popping for you.
lol thanks! i knew i'd have an easier time with soil, but i know i'll get the hang of the hydro too. thats what these new seedlings are for, practice =] and yea, i did a couple more ties today, of just individual leaves.. trying to place the fan leaves in places where they don't cover new growth. sometimes moving them as little as an inch makes a huge difference. i'm using my light meter to check the growth sites and adjusting the plant accordingly. hoping its worth the effort!

nice job on the lst keep it up! :D Happy 420!

lol yea, see above comment. i'm loving it. i'm a hands-on type of person, so its working out. i like feeling connected to my plants

So my grow space has become rather cramped.. lol. I re-introduced the GH Power Grower bucket to the tent, and there's barely enough room for all three containers. I placed the three bag seedlings in the hydroton - I'm just going to let them grow a little bigger in there before I start the drip ring. The other two plants are looking super healthy as well. I think I'm going to assess the growth next weekend and make a decision on flowering. I'm not aiming for huge plants, I just want a nice healthy grow I can keep learning on, and a personal stash that doesnt expire heh

picture time!

we'll start with the super silver. you guys haven't gotten to really get to know that one as much as the kush, so i'll give it a lot of picture love today! in some of these pictures you can really see the effect of the LST on the main stem. it sharply curves to the outside of the pot, then back around the edge before turning up to the light. i'm gonna continue that trend around the edge.

and now for the kush =]

so its been a little over a month, and i haven't flushed the soil out at all. i figured it was overdue, so i went ahead and did it today. i forgot to snap a pic before i took the super silver out, but check out what they left behind! after the flushing was done, i gave them a thorough spraydown.. a nice little thunderstorm =] gonna let them grow unrestrained while the soil dries back out, and probably start LST again after they have their first post-drought feeding.

here they are back in their home. my camera really has a hard time with the LEDs, it only picks up the magenta.. sorry! I snapped a couple pics with one of their new lights on for better pics. oh yea i got more lights. picked up four 24" fluorescent grow lights and i put them in each corner of the tent, vertically, just for a little extra light between the leaves.

i have two clones (one from each plant) that are hopefully rooting as well.. i'm gonna pop them in the powergrower for a really quick veg before flowering, as well as save a few other clones for the next grow. i'm not really sure how much longer i'm going to veg.. what do you guys think? i'm not in a huge rush, although i am pretty eager to see the fruits of my labors!

i cut four more clones today and put them in a dome, along with some pepper seeds lol. when those germinate, theyre going outside. the clones will either be saved or vegged and flowered with the others

here's the cloning station i've set up. it currently has 6 clones and 8 jiffy pots in it.
-4 purple kush clones (cut 4/26)
-1 purple kush clone (cut 4/21?)
-1 super silver clone (cut 4/21?)
-4 jiffy pots with cayenne peppers
-4 jiffy pots with jalapeno peppers

and the super silver
IMAG021712.jpg

gave the plants their first feeding today after the long soak and flush. did a second round of LST.. and then decided that the super silver doesn't seem to be enjoying it as much as the kush. so i'm gonna experiment with just letting that one grow free from now on. the purple kush loves the LST, and i tied it down a lot today

i almost forgot to mention.. im building a 15 site aeroponic cloner in a 14 gallon rubbermaid. today i constructed the irrigation and cut the holes for the net pots and collars. around the middle of next week, my sprayers, pump, net pots and neoprene should come in.

(oh, and in case you didnt notice, there are pictures from today on the last post of the previous page. i didnt mean to make a new page with this post.)

awesome! a root is coming out of the rockwool for the super silver clone. how soon does that need to be in the growing medium? should i wait to see another root or two sticking out? i will be refilling teh powergrower and using that.

its that. so drip ring. there were two roots coming out when i got home, so i nestled it deep in the hydroton and turned on the drip =]

also built this:

IMAG023111.jpg
IMAG023212.jpg

tested it out, and without anything in the net pots, water sprays everywhere. it doesn't leak out the sides of the lid though, so I should be good! just waiting for my neoprene inserts to come in.

if this one works really well, i'll probably build a second one to grow veggies and cooking herbs =]

oh also... that 2nd LED light that I bought... failed again. same problem as before, only half the leds were lit. so i shipped it back today, gonna just get a refund and buy from a different supplier. its frustrating taking all that light away from my plants but it probably bothers me more than them. itll just be a couple cloudy days heh.
