The Forced Bonzai Journal In Aerogardens - Growing Instructions

SMOKE REPORT

Here is a smoke report on strains growing in 6 Aerogardens.

This report is about subjective conclusions of effects of 3 grows.

1. Cropking auto fem mix. Not a wise grow in an Aerogarden. Compared to Lowflyers the grow takes more than twice the time. They do not tell you which strain you will receive. They say study our pictures to see what you got. No thanks. I started with 12 and after they popped I took the six best looking ones to grow in the Aerogarden. You have photos above of the grow. Cropking has touted the copious amounts of THC in each strain. The reason we took only the six was to give them a fair shot for our approval. 3 were male. Now to the quality of the actual smoke. The lowryders are supposed to have 10 percent THC. The auto fem pack says 16 to 22 percent. Not so.

We did a blind test last night with several noted critics. There were six glass pipes. Each one had a different auto fem strain and one had a lowflyer load. The results were the lowflyer won hands down. 5 of 5 learned critics choose the lowflyer with the touted 10 percent THC. Nobody picked any of the autofem collection with a higher claimed THC content.

The critics liked the taste, the buzz, and the fact that it is "happy weed".

There you have it. Pass on the Cropking autofem collection. If you are growing in a Aerogarden, you have three choices. Cropking LowFlyers, The Joint doctor's original Low Ryder, and even better the Lowryder 2.

More Aerogarden questions and answers

I had some questions about Aerogarden growing out side the forum but I thought I would answer them here.

1. Which of the Aerogarden models is the best for marijuana? The Aerogarden Harvest is the best model. It is also the cheapest. Today at QVC it is priced at $89. You will need three for a sustainable grow. Each has six planting spots so you begin with 18 plants.

6lowflyersat13days.jpg

2. What can I expect as a harvest? There are several different Aerogarden farmers here at HG420. Each reports a different yield. My results over the past year is that I harvest between 3/4 of an ounce to 1 ounce per plant. If you start with 18 plants you can harvest 16 ounces or about 1 pound per cycle. The cycle is 40 days. For weed of this quality in my town you would pay $300 per ounce. My 16 ounces in the Aerogardens translates to $4,800 every 40 days. I can do that 10 times per year or a grand total of $24,000 per year. These are not projections but results of the past year of Aerogarden growing. The cost of the setup and other costs are $500 for the year or I could buy an ounce and a half in quality street weed which would last me 2 weeks.

3. Which strains grow best in an Aerogarden? After extensive research I find that there are only 2 choices. They are Cropking Dwarf LowFlyers and the 2 Joint Doctors strains, Lowryder and Lowryder 2's. That is because they are short, finish fast, and potent enough for me. I am a maintianence smoker meaning I smoke all day and night. I just could not afford my habit.

4. Of these 3 I would prefer the LowRyder 2 because of the increased potency, but the last batch I purchased from High-Supplies and that shipped from Zurich. The shipment went well but the package came with a BIG green X on the front. We are all familiar with the dreaded green letter but the big green X raised the hair on the back of my neck. For years and years I ordered from Doctor Chronic and after 6,000 posts on the old HG420 the Doc asked me "Who the Fuck are you"? told him and we are still friends however he does not ship to the US anymore. It seems a lot of his orders cleared customs in Chicago and they snatched them. What to do? What to do? Earlier this year I decided to try the Dwarf Low Flyers from Cropking. I tried all the auto fems and many are shown in this thread. None of these strains were any better than the Dwarf LowFlyers although the site says they are only 10 percent THC. You can't prove it by me. I love the buzz and it helps with pain. You might be better off ordering from the site than calling their sales and customer service number. From the PR director to the phone staff, these clowns know more about hip replacement surgery than marijuana or it's history. They only sell their own beans and bad mouth all other strains and companies. You will leave insulted and may not order from them at all. Go ahead and order but do it online. I do have to admit after 22 orders the stealth shipping is the best, the Lowflyers are better than they know and I feel very comfortable ordering online. On the second order I paid the $30 premium shipping which showed the order cleared customs in San Francisco, probably because BC is on the west coast. They do not care in SF if a few beans get through.

4. Had a whole cabinet with nutes for my $5,000 fancy grow room. The Areogargen comes with a bottle of their Miracle grow Nutes which have been slandered by the AN crowd and everyone else since 1894. Do not listen. I was one of those till I tried the Miracle Grow which ships with the Garden. I honestly can not tell any difference. Who knew. If you have any questions just post them.

Just yanked this baby and my fingers are stuck together.

Hi Movie 1212, You are yanking your plants before they are ready!

You should really let your flowers finish flowering before you harvest.

I understand that you have root-space issues, maybe less plants at one time would be better?

If you want any value for your seed money, then you should really wait until the flowers are mature.

- Maturation and Harvesting of Cannabis

Early Floral Stage

Floral clusters begin to form as calyx production increases and internode length decreases. Tri-leaflet leaves are the predominant type and usually appear along the secondary floral stems within the individual clusters. Many pairs of calyxes appear along each secondary floral axis and each pair is subtended by a tri-leaflet leaf. Older pairs of calyxes visible along the primary floral axis during the premature stage now begin to swell, the pistils darken as they lose fertility, and some resin secretion is observed in trichomes along the veins of the calyx. The newly produced calyxes show few if any capitate-stalked trichomes. As a result of low resin production, only a slight terpene aroma and psychoactivity are detectable. The floral clusters are not ready for harvest at this point. Total cannabinoid production has increased markedly over the premature stage but THC levels (still less than 3%) are not high enough to produce more than a subtle effect.

Peak Floral Stage

Elongation growth of the main floral stem ceases at this stage, and floral clusters gain most of their size through the addition of more calyxes along the secondary stems until they cover the primary stem tips in an overlapping spiral. Small reduced mono-leaflet and tri-leaflet leaves subtend each pair of calyxes emerging from secondary stems within the floral clusters. These subtending leaves are correctly referred to as bracts. Outer leaves begin to wilt and turn yellow as the pistillate plant reaches its reproductive peak. In the primordial calyxes the pistils have turned brown; however, all but the oldest of the flowers are fertile and the floral clusters are white with many pairs of ripe pistils. Resin secretion is quite advanced in some of the older infertile calyxes, and the young pistillate calyxes are rapidly producing capitate-stalked glandular trichomes to protect the precious unfertilized ovule. Under wild conditions the pistillate plant would be starting to form seeds and the cycle would be drawing to a close. When Cannabis is grown for sinsemilla floral production, the cycle is interrupted. Pistillate plants remain unfertilized and begin to produce capitate -stalked trichomes and accumulate resins in a last effort to remain viable. Since capitate-stalked trichomes now predominate, resin and THC production increase. The elevated resin heads appear clear, since fresh resin is still being secreted, often being produced in the cellular head of the trichome. At this time THC acid production is at a peak and CBD acid levels remain stable as the molecules are rapidly converted to THC acids, THC acid synthesis has not been active long enough for a high level of CBN acid to build up from the degradation of THC acid by light and heat. Terpene production is also nearing a peak and the floral clusters are beautifully aromatic. Many cultivators prefer to pick some of their strains during this stage in order to produce cannabis with a clear, cerebral, psychoactive effect. It is believed that, in peak floral clusters, the low levels of CBD and CBN allow the high level of THC to act without their sedative effects. Also, little polymerization of resins has occurred, so aromas and tastes are often less resinous and tar like than at later stages. Many strains, if they are harvested in the peak floral stage, lack the completely developed aroma, taste and psychoactive level that appear after curing. Cultivators wait longer for the resins to mature if a different taste and psychoactive effect is desired.

This is the point of optimum harvest for some strains, since most additional calyx growth has ceased. However, a subsequent flush of new calyx growth may occur and the plant continue ripening into the late floral stage.

The plants you are talking about were pulled because they were the auto flower and would need one more month to finish. I wanted to see what they were going to look like and I did not like the strain that was growing Cropking autoflower mix. Three were males.. I just yanked them. Replaced these with the new crop. Fed the under grown ones to my cat and replaced three boxes.with lowflyers, the photos are below.
6lowflyersat13days.jpg

Dried and smoked the top bud and although half-grown were still kind of nice. My cats love weed leaves and they ate the rest. I guess I did not explain my plan but did NOT have the lowflyer beans yet.

During this period I am smoking a bag I got from my friend while the new 18 start.

Thanks for copying and pasting the science.

Guess I did not make it clear this was a test grow of autopilots I did not like the way they were looking so I yanked them for Josie the pussycat. She liked them just fine. 'll post photos of the 3 other boxes which follow the science in 2 weeks.

Planted my first crop in 1970
and have written 6 books on growing and 4 commercial films. I can see where first time growers might not know the science. So listen to Richard and do what he says and not do what I do.

Bye the bye. Six lowflyers fit the box very well. You are really wasting space if you do not grow 6 to a box.

Re: The Forced Bonzai Journal In Aeroogardens - Grown Instructions

Here is the latest update on Aerogarden 1

It is now day 14 of the new Aerogarden grow. It is going so well I ordered 2 more Aerogardens from QVC. The Aerogarden Harvest is the best model for marijuana. They are on sale today for $89 or 4 easy pays of $24. I have decided to grow only Cropking Low Flyers since I can not find a source for LowRyder 2's by the Joint Doctor from Canada. PM me if you know of a seed house that can supply them. These new plants guarded by my Penguino Teddy (I just like the name) are 14 days old and I am using the supplied Nutes by Miracle Grow in the Aerogarden box. I also have a box for exotic herbs, and 2 boxes with exotic lettuce strains ($1000 in organic salads which will grow till Christmas). Here is what the Cropking Low Flyers look like on July 1.

lowflyersday14.jpg

Have a great 4th of July and keep it high.

It's hard keeping up with 200 journals man, sorry for not being there for you. It seemed like you were telling everyone what going on and not really asking for advice. So in that case I just admire your plants (like) and then move on to someone who needs some advice. If you want conversation then start one up. Other than that I can just come by and say your doing a good job and keep up the fantastic work. :thumb:
Have faith in the members Here, they're not trolls just die hard budporn lovers, and there's lots of budporn around d these parts... Hope you don't give up the journal...

Sunday July10th Aerogrow Cropking Dwarf Lowflyer's

The process started a long time ago Is really not long at all. This Aerogarden thing is going to work for me providing Meds at a very low cost.

It has come down to Cropking Lowryder, The Joint Doctor's LowRyder and LowRyder2. There are several more LowRyder flavors be seen taller although they finish about the same time.

Here are the Lowflyers in one box 28 days anthe others a 3 week. Thet tall plant got a big pruning last night to expose the buds under the leaves. They do need protection at this point More later

What kind of LEDs do you have under the hood? Is it the stock ones or something added on... Those 4 there look picture perfect for a mini Sog.

KiG :green_heart:cheers

I sent off to China via Ebay for a stand or hang square of led's. $21 for the square which they say "covers a two feet square". I find the Aerogardens on each side of the primary box which gets the extra lights also benefit.

The extra light is added after the Pruning which takes place as the grow is 3/4 done. The mercy less trimming exposes the small buds the shade leaves have protected. They are no longer needed and the square of leds hits the small buds 24/7 till they finish.

Hey movie.
Great journal. I enjoy your writing style. Great first person narrative.

Please forgive my question you may have already answered. But could someone get by with just one aero garden seed to harvest? You mentioned having or needing three. I have often thought about getting one for my wife to get more involved in the grow. Getting into the tent real doesn't suit her and I thought I could put one of these suckers in a corner on a table. Just thinking out loud.
Cheers thanks :ciao:

Yes, Yes, and Yes.

Yous saw the last photos of the Aerogarden Grow last Sunday. It is the next Sunday the 17th.

What progress in just a week. Just to refresh your memory....... I grow with 6 Aerogarden Harvest gardens at QVC today for $89 ($25} down on 4 flex pays. Start with 3 for $75 spent. 1 pack of Cropking Dwarf Lowflyers at $190. Period. Nutes come free. Great ones. Water. Optional PH meter $5.

From the day you put the seeds ( I can do it in three minutes} in the Aerogarden. Count 40 days. Smoke it. You can grow $12,000 US and screw the $300 bags that you can sometimes smoke. You have to watch them daily because towards the end with lots of roots they drink plenty of water.

Here are this Sunday's Photos

They beef up quickly eh... 40 day harvests, that's impressive. Are the deficiencies in check or not worth hassling with with such a short grow period? I'm intrigued with this style of grow... You can do a major sea of green, with super fast turnarounds. Does light schedule play a role at all, have you found 12/12 or 24/7 or something in between works best?

No deficiencies.

No light schedule. Let em burn 24/7. I fill in towards the end with a major pruning and add a 2 ft square of LED's to help the lower buds. The Aerogarden lights are new and improved. Up to 40 Watts. Get mine at E-Bay for $21. Add aquarium pump for 40-60 gallons tank. 2 hoses. Wholes are providing in tank.
