Atavistic Ape Learning RDWC & LED - Pure Kush & Aurora Indica From Seed - 2014

Now for a long overdue update....

(I'm not going to be as detailed as my previous posts because of time restrictions.)

When I left off I was deciding on what type of RDWC system to build for my flower tent.

At the store I thought two 50Gal totes (below) would be perfect. At home I quickly realised they were way too big.

Then I found some 12Gal totes that worked perfectly.

The holes I cut were a little too big for the bulkheads washers so I had to make my own.

And of course the water cooling system.

These things are out of control, time to transplant them.

IMG_212112.JPG

The transplant didn't quite go as planned. Many broken stems later....

After moving three plants I came to the conclusion to stop there, the three filled the tent.

I took some clones, so far I've had 90% success rate with rooting clones. I also tossed the runt plant, it had been swallowed by the surrounding plants and was a lost cause.

In the stretch.

Too much stretch!

Never make your own bucket lids unless your net pots have big lips. Opened the tent to see the whole pot fell into the water, lucky I check on them obsessively so no harm done.

I've done all the LST, supercroping and trimming I can, and they are still almost touching the lights.

Moms looking good with the clones that I chose to keep.

Time for a system change, I need more space!

Lots of buds on the AI in the front, the AI in the back isn't doing too well and the PK on the right is foxtailing like crazy. Not much I can do at this point.

I let some light get into the tent a couple of times a little before harvest and a few lower buds hermied so I chopped a week or so early. I ended up with a dry weight of 2 ounces from the PK and 5 ounces from the two AIs (mainly the front one). I got 8 ounces of clippings saved as well. I'm not sure where most of those pics are but here are two I could find.

Quick smoke report:

The Arora Indica is still curing and the buds have plenty of crystals. The buds aren't as dense as I would like, but they are by no means larfy. When broken, a bud will smell kind of like lapsang souchong tea, yet leaving your fingers with a sticky strong citrus smell. The high is a good body buzz that settles into light couch lock. I have to smoke more than normal to get the effects, but not by much. The taste is earthy and smooth. My guess is an extra week or two in flower would put right where I want it, heavy couch lock and pain relief.

The Pure Kush smells like sweet berries. Most of the buds are small and still curing. Smoking it in a pipe didn't do much for me at all, but my tolerance is quite high. Thinking of using it for edibles.

I decided, with my luck in cloning, I wasn't going to keep mother plants. I also decided to only flower the AI mom and not the PK one since its branches were wooden and it wouldn't' fit in the flower tent. I did save some PK clones just in case but just chopped down the mom.

I also decided to go beneficial instead of sterile. Now that summer is over I also got rid of the coolers (THANK GOD!) for now.

Here is the last AI in the flower tent. Put in there and switched to 12/12 on 11/10/2014

Just got two more Advanced Platinum 300w LEDs. Since i'm not going to be keeping mothers, i'm going to turn the other tent into flower.

:welcome:to :420:WOW, what a setup you got going Ape!! Very impressive for a first time grow. I am still reading through the journal but I had to stop and make a post. Really, looks fracking amazing brother!!! I can't wait to see how this one turns out.

Also, next time you want to build an RDWC.. use uniseals instead of expensive and crappy bulkheads. Just drill the corresponding hole needed, and pop the seal in. use some dish soap and slide your PVC tube into the uniseal and you're done.

I actually just built a couple systems myself, both of which i actually cant use until i get a water chiller, since my water pump runs so ridiculously hot (mag drive pumps!).

Here's the big system i made:

The Uniseals are awesome, you can see them sitting flush against the containers:

And then inside the control resevoir where the water returns to be recirculated:

A huge water pump is needed tho in order for some decent water flow, which is why i need the chiller.. I bought a Mag Drive 12 pump that moves 1200gph and it runs as hot as my microwave haha

Hope all is well in your world.

Thanks for sharing this grow with us.

Please head over to the 420 Strain Reviews forum and post your smoke report there too.

I’m moving this to Completed Journals now.

Have you started a new grow you would like to share with us?

If so, please feel free to start a new journal here: Journals in Progress

You can use the Report Post feature found at the bottom left of every post and we'll move it for you right away.

Sending you lots of love and positive energy.
