Autos and Supercropping

I'm not a new grower - I've been growing for over 30 years but I have never grown an auto before now. I received several freebies from my last order with Attitude and one of them was a Cheese XXL Auto. It is now 7 weeks from seed and the growth is nothing short of amazing, with tons of bud sites. I have read that training an auto is not a good idea because of its short life span, but it is growing into my 600w HPS and the tops are beginning to show signs of burning. So I tried bending (supercropping) one of the tops to see how it does and after a day or so the attached leaves are turned toward the light and the cola seems to be doing well. I would like to do the rest of them (6) to reduce the height. Any thoughts on using this technique on an auto this far into the growth cycle would be appreciated.

Hi, Mick!

There are lots of people on here who are doing serious, heavy duty training with autos, but of course most of that happens during veg. But as you point out, you have to do something to keep the plant from burning. Your first experiment went well -- you might as well continue, which would be my less-than-expert advice.

But I'm going to point you in the direction of some of the people doing the most amazing training -- they have all the experience you need. I'd suggest popping in and asking in one of these threads:

Light Addict: here's his latest thread, you might pop in and ask this question there: LA's Daft New Multiple Test - With Remo Nutrients & Budmaster's New Tech! He's THE expert on auto training and is always generous with his advice.

Atrain -- auto specialist: another amazing dude. Super nice. A-Train's Basement - Perpetual Autoflowering Cannabis Grow

thebeast is doing lots of auto training -- very friendly and helpful guy: Auto Topping LED Grow

All the best!

I try to avoid super cropping during stretch and early bud set with autos. After that, before that,,, they can take it. I might be more inclined to bend, don't want the plant spending too much time recovering... Good luck
