First grow, octopot, attempted flux

First time grower, went with 3 gal octopots for convenience. I also wanted to try and do flux training. 2 fem seeds of Kosher Kush.
From jump I already knew I miscalculated somewhere with the soil that's why the left plant "N" has more soil than the right plant "Z".
Followed the directions for the octopot watering.
It's probably weird but save me a head ache but I started counting week 1 day 1 when they popped out the soil.
From the start N looked far behind Z, but Z looked a little off. The right most leaves were looking maldeformed from the beginning. Week 3 day 15 is when I topped both plants to try the fluxing, don't know if I did it correctly and at the right time. Thanks for ya input.

Hey Puddlez,

Welcome to 420! For future reference most wait until 4 or 5 nodes or pairs of limbs are showing above the cotyledons before any topping so the plant recovers faster. Some even take off the lowest pair or two to boost growth..... that way your flux uses the 3rd node which has bigger branches than the 1st node.

The topping was cut too close (leave the stub sticking up taller next time) and when you train on those arms it’s going to be really easy to rip an arm off....

anyway cute girl - I hope she will recover nicely for you!

I would grow the plants out naturally before I got fancy with training techniques I'm not familiar with. That's just me.

Also the soil looks pretty dry to me. I do btm watering but I start seedlings in cups and wait till they are established with a larger root ball before I up-pot to the final containers.

I would supplement watering from the top until your roots reach or get close to the btm of the container where the water res is.

You didn't mention, what is your soil mix??

It's is dry on top, with octopots you top water only the first time after dropping in the seed.

man, you need calmag, BAD.

Im actually "octopot" style to, but I hand made my set-up, will post pics later, Im currently waiting for the final pieces for the set-up.

Anyways, I would start over man, to be honest. They have virus, or bad genetics. Root rot even seems possible to.

YOU MUST start seeds in cups bro, especially if your going with this style of growing. You need established roots system to tolerate the possibility of dry conditions before that water wicks up properly.

100 PPMs of calmag AT LEAST, must be put in the reservoir, AT ALL TIMES. PH should be 6.1

Good luck man,

Admittedly I have zero experience with auto-pots.

Yes ditto what bobrown said about the top water for a long time - those roots are nowhere near being fed by the res or by the wet soil. Lack of oxygen right there too

Sorry but thats probably not going to work the way you are trying it. Yes you are supposed to grow the plants up first in smaller containers then transplant into the system -

At best it’s a tricky beast - soil grows don’t like wet feet. The problem is a very small plant needs very small water. Save yourself some time & frustration start them in 20 ounce cups and then transplant into the octopot when you have at least 4 or 5 nodes going and that’s still a small plant for what you are trying and dont mutilate them until they’ve got at least 4 or 5 pairs showing

Grow photos since they can be upcanned multiple times but skip autos cause they don’t like to be transplanted. Self watering can be real tricky in soil.

If you are set on growing autos then you need to learn how to water a small plant in a large container at first. The watering system is useless until the roots find the reservoir and that doesn’t happen right away. Here’s an article that may help.... Emilya - Water small plant in large container

Last, topping an auto is a pro move and you may have permanently stunted the plant- time will tell. The general consensus is that autos should be topped by day 21 but only if the plant is super healthy but for most people lst does much better since there is zero recovery time required

well, here it is. I have a digital moisture meter in it also, just to see how the wicking works out. Red cap is the fill hole, and i have a hole also already there for the water level indicator that i have to put in still. Holds 4 gallons of liquid. I made my own "wick" with a cup from Dollar tree, Got the oil pan from walmart for $10, and had the meter and super root pot. Going to make a gasket for the air pot to sit on, just to cut any light, But hey, way cheaper, lol.. See how it goes..

Hi sacballa, not good. Water of course wasnt cooled, and container took up to much room, so i discontinued using the res.
