First Grow

3/16 2019

Stretch is over, 3rd week of flower. I have a dehumidifier running 24/7 to keep humidity at 35-40%. It also replaced my 1500w heater I had going during the 12 dark hours. The dehumidifier keeps the room a stable 68-70°F all night. Daytime temps are 80-85°F.

I decided to do a thorough pan leaf trim session. I found bud sites I diddnt even know were there and opened up alot of light.

This sativa-dominant is turning out beautifully. After trimming the leaves the branches stand up on thier own- they had begun to slouch almost horizontal without a tie-up.

I'm hoping to pull 1.5-2lbs, but I'd be happy with anything over 1lb. Fingers crossed!!!

It's nice when you can dump the heater and use the dehumidifier. Saves a few bucks on electricity.

Couple things I see:

See if you can get those buckets off the cement floor. They don't like cold feet. I assume you've got some drainage in those buckets?

Good job thinning and good timing. They look good. Next thing you'll need to plan for is when they start building weight and need support. I've used a combination of Mason line and bamboo stakes. Look around and see what you can find.

Keep up the good work you'll be happy in the end!

I have a plethora of bamboo steaks and a wheel of the gardening wire ready for supports :)

I agree about getting them off the cement. I use 1 1/2" hard foam board. It's good to keep the root system from getting too cold

I was planning on cutting rings out of reflectix insulation and sliding them under the buckets but it slipped my mind until now haha.

BTW, nice plants! What strain is the plant in the front right corner with the enormous pan leaves?

A little sneak-peek look into the new setup in the works!

3-site RDWC system using 27 gallon totes and 2" PVC. More will be posted in another thread.

12/26 2018.

I got my paycheck and had a little "extra" money. 56qt tub, I lined it with reflective duct insulation and added another light. A definate upgrade from the cardboard and aluminum foil LOL.

I've had these compact L.E.D. floods for a few years. I use them to start my pepper sprouts early so they are well established by the last frost. They arent terrible!

What sort of blubs you burning? I've always, (back in the day) grew outdoors and now setting up my first indoor grow. I know lighting due to raising SPS corals for the last 20 plus years and have a little bit of an obsession with lights..I dont know why really....

Topping out your plants that way and I am guessing you cut off fan leaves, have you found it to produce more yield? Your set up is what I am shooting for...Short, trained plants that have to work....

I am looking for an LED MH hybrid unit but leaning more towards just LED's I am having to train my brain to stop thinking corals. I read where cannabis performs in the right blue light and MH bulbs are the best I've ever seen for that type of blue but they are so expensive to run, bulb replacement ever 8-12 months..I just don't think I can do it...

I've found topping on the 3rd node worked well. I tried topping on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. 3rd node has been the best so far. I also topped the main branches on the 3rd node. I averaged 16 colas per plant this way.

I did defoliate twice in veg (not as extensive) and once fully after 4 weeks in flower. I've found it really does help new growth and lower growth catch up compared to cutting it off when it cant reach the light.

My only regret is waiting to transplant into 5 gallon buckets. I had them in 2.5quart buckets for a bit too long and it did stunt a few of them.

Here is a 1 week time lapse of my stress training. This one was topped at the 2nd node and the branches were tied down horizontally, and evenly spaced to promote the new growth to shoot up and it really did work well.

Day 1 (pics are in order)

Update on flower! Showing some signs of nitrogen toxicity but overall I'm happy with it. A majority of it is going to be pressed so popcorn isnt so devastating.

This is my favorite plant out of the bunch. It's not the biggest, or the best yield, but it's got nice structure and it's a happy medium between the good, bad, and ugly out of the 8.

*another side note* The mailman commented on the smell all the way in the side yard, so I finally got a carbon filter, 435cfm fan and a 550 cfm filter. no more skunkass smell!
