Mars-Hydro LED Grow Light Discussion

8 plants, three strains under Mars2 900 in 4x4 tent, a week maybe two left to go. Plants are around 3 1/2 feet, a couple at 4. No training.

pretty good grow, :goodjob:

Anybody have the temp readings of the reflector lights at the diode itself, about an inch away, and at the exhaust vents of the light?
I have the 48x3w reflector series. I just checked with my IR thermometer and thermocouple.
Open air RH=40% (closed tent = 55-60%)
Input Air Vent = 76F (It cools down quickly when I open the tent. - It was 86F on opening)
Exhaust Vents - 80-84F
At LED - 100-108F (held against the led)
1inch below - 80F
2 inches below 75F
Canopy 12-18in below lights = 70F on tent opening 68F 5 min later.
Kill A Watt says 260W total (3 lights = 86.7w each)

Compared to every light I've seen or used, these lights run very cool. One can comfortably put their hand directly on the LED's. There's no chance of burns when moving the lights or working on plants. I don't have any experience with other brands of LED lights so I don't know how typical these temps are. I'd rate these lights a 10/10 on features, safety and ease of use.

Thanks man, exactly what I wanted.

Nice setup CoNerd :thumb:
I can relate to taking a multi decade hiatus from growing. A lot has changed huh? Lucky for us, the plant still grows the same. :)

Good luck my friend. :Namaste:

Have you considered a journal?

Looking good in there but you might want to keep the vents on the light clear of any obstruction, might create some unnecessary heat buildup inside the light.

I'm not sure another plain jane grow journal is worth it. I don't think I'm doing anything new or particularly interesting. I started growing in the 1970's when my friend's dad showed us his grow room in his basement (full of florescent tubes and male plants). For many years, we would start plants from seed inside in the spring and transplant outside in disused areas with very limited success. Eventually, I had a small hydroponic closet grow but gave that up because of kids (and spider mites). Secret grows are a pain to maintain. Our house was often the neighborhood hangout, so growing at home was out of the picture. Now that they're adults and growing cannabis is legal in my state, I'm having some fun taking up my old hobby. I've got a molecular biology degree and friends still in the field, so I'm more inclined to spend my time playing with cannabis genetics than to simply collect more bud porn :).

From my perspective, the biggest changes over the 40 years are probably in the genetics of the available plants, and the commercialisation of the industry. I've never had a clone that naturally branched so much. A friend grew some plants from Dutch seed in 3 gallon pots of garden dirt and they produced huge buds. Information and materials are much easier to find. I'm a DIY kind of guy and was blown away when I went into my local hydro store. Now one doesn't have to DIY. People can buy anything they need and ask questions about cannabis without fear. At least in Colorado, growing has turned into a bit of a boutique business, and it seems there's lots of hucksters who want to sell you the secret to growing great buds. It's getting to be like our local MicroBrew industry; everyone's trying to outdo each other by producing better product. Now, we have the some of the best beer and bud in the world. I pity y'all living in the land of prohibition. Life is much better without it.

Here's my latest pictures. I moved the carbon filter inside the tent. I don't like it taking up the space, but I decided it's better to keep the organics out of the fan and duct work and would allow me to vent to the outside in the future. This also shows why I decided to buy 3 of the 48x3W rather than one of the bigger lights; I wanted to be able to position the lights independently.

My two girls are quite happy under the LED's and are still filling in their canopy.

Top buds are now showing pistils. The internode spacing is pretty tight. I don't understand the claim that LED lights don't "penetrate". Their mother plant growing under a 600W HPS, didn't look nearly as nice at this age.

Hi Sara I received my light yesterday in good working order. thank you

thx a lot and i'm a happy customer from mars-hydro. i will come back with pics and maybe a journal.:) cheers

thank you Naru:high-five:

It's a great way to keep a daily record of your grow for your own reference later even if nobody else looks at it. You'd be surprised how much your own pics and notes can help in a later grow (you don't remember everything you think you will :smokin: ).

Hello, A few pages ago Sara said the standerd spectrum was better than the flowering. Why do you say that? Are there plans for a new or upgraded flowering spectrum setup? I have the flowering spectrum 1200 watt mars 2. It seems to cover about like a 1000 watt hps with less heat and less power draw. Better crystan production with the mars 2 I think as well. I like it very well, but should I add some type of light to supplement?
