Mattyb420's First Grow Journal - Himalayan Blue Diesel - Lambert's Potting Mix - 2013

Re: Mattyb420's First Grow Journal/Himalayan Blue Diesel/Lamberts Potting Mix/2013

I was in bed sick all day yesterday due some over indulgence at a Halloween party on my part. Woke up and checked on her today and growth had exploded...I am very impressed! Soil was also nice and dry so I went ahead and repotted her today carefully to avoid shock. Few pictures for y'all

Re: Mattyb420's First Grow Journal/Himalayan Blue Diesel/Lamberts Potting Mix/2013

after dropping into my local grow shop to pick up the rest of my nutes (i had only grabbed the JJ micro) he recommended the General Organics GO Box. Gave me a great deal on it and it has everything I need for my current setup. Mixed everything up half strength for now to make sure my baby likes it first! Heres the kit I picked up, and a couple shots of the girl this morning.

Re: Mattyb420's First Grow Journal/Himalayan Blue Diesel/Lamberts Potting Mix/2013

So I've been busy adding/upgrading slight things now to perfect my cabinet to my liking. Finished Light proofing the cabinet 100%, made a cardboard door type deal inside the actual doors, so now anyone peeking into my room has no idea whats going on. (also rigged up a vent cover for the exhaust fan and the intake holes, so no light escaping there anymore either. Got all my nutrients and supplies situated in the still functional bottom drawer :).
Turning out to be a great little set up I must say. Growth is still booming, I have some new pictures of the plant and the setup add-ons for you all. Also, she looks healthy as hell, green, great growth, no burnt tips or anything. But am I right in saying judging by the bit of sagging in the leaves that I may have over watered a bit last feeding? Giving a nice mist a couple times a day to alleviate dryness as well. If someone could have a look and let me know if the sag is normal, or if there is something I can do to remedy this it would be greatly appreciated.
All the help I receive here is truly used and appreciated, and will help to turn out some great smoke!

Re: Mattyb420's First Grow Journal/Himalayan Blue Diesel/Lamberts Potting Mix/2013

Seems like an overwatering issue. Misting the plants is a bad idea. You'd be hard pressed to find an experienced grower who recommends misting a plant that young, or even misting big plants!

You'll want to wait several days before you water again. As a new grower, I'm sure you're checking on the plants very frequently. Wait until your potted plant feels as light as a same sized pot full of dry soil before you water again - or just wait until you see the plant start to look obviously droopy. It could take as much as a week with a plant that small in a pot that size to need water. It'll go five days easy. As you wait to water you'll see the plant get much more perky as the days go by. When it starts to look less energetic and sags a bit it will be prime time to water again.

I'd also skip feeding at the next watering if it was me. I've used the GO go box to feed my plants on my first grow. My experience is with three sets of seedlings. Three weeks after my first seeds were going I started two more. Last week I sprouted two more seeds. I waited around five weeks before feeding them anything at all - then started with 1/4 strength and worked up to full strength slowly over the next several weeks. If you just can't help yourself, skip the biothrive grow, the bioweed, Cal Mag, and biomarine. Feed them bioroot and black diamond at 25% strength. You'll get the best results if you feed them nothing at all except water (when they get dry) until they are four or five weeks old.

With feeding I it helps to think of it in terms of how people feed human babies. When they are very little they just need breast milk (food stored in the seed and the soil.) When a human baby is six months old, we start to give it other food. We don't give it much except some mushy cereal and some strained babyfood goop. You can think of a four or five week old weed plant as being like a six month old baby. Nutes around 25% strength are what you want at four or five weeks. You wouldn't feed a small baby like it was a teenager, would you?

One of the things that will happen if you feed to much too soon is the plant will not use all the nutes you put in the time before. The level of nutrients will keep getting more and more with each feeding. The goal is to give it what it needs at each stage of it's life cycle. Giving it way too much will cause all sorts of problems.

After four weeks the plant will really start to grow quickly. They will start to eat more as they grow, and you start slowly giving them more. By seven weeks you will be able to feed at full strength so long as there isn't a ton of unused food already in the pot from previous feedings.

Hope this advice helps. It can be hard not to over-do it with water and nutes before you get experience. It's tempting to give them more in hopes that they'll grow more quickly, but it won't help - honest.

Re: Mattyb420's First Grow Journal/Himalayan Blue Diesel/Lamberts Potting Mix/2013

some more pictures and a short video for you guys! video shows my setup, i think it's come a long water in a short few weeks. watered today for the first time in a week, she was looking much more perky and showing some signs of drying out so I gave her a nice feeding. 1/2 strength nutrients again this time(as you can see i got a drip of stuff on one of my leaves and cause a slight nute burn, damn!) i think next week i will feed straight clean water, before switching over to the bloom nutrients on flowering stage. Any input on the way they are looking now, any insights into some slight problems you can see, and any constructive criticism is much appreciated!

Was it an auto? I started some LST today on her to prevent her getting too tall on me. How long was your veg period from seedling?

Bought 2 HBD auto seeds by Short Stuff. Both seeds have identical medium, pots, nutes, lighting, (18/6) everything absolutely identical. After 2-3 weeks first seedling buds at 25 cm tall second seedling now budding at 9 weeks and 110cm tall. Go figure?
I went for the strain cos they looked pretty and cos they don't supposedly grow too big and are a nice smoke :) I can put you up a couple of pics here with your permission, i dont want to hijack your thread.
Even Short Stuff seeds description have said these plants are not supposed to grow this tall. I even purposefully grew them in small pots in an attempt to stunt their growth (seems to have worked with the first seed).
Now i have had to repot the tall plant at a 45 degree angle to fit it in my grow cab lol :)

Few pictures been bust with the kids and new job last little while. Bit of LST going she is bushing out nicely and staying short like I had hoped! Centre stem is very thick and everything looks great.

Re: Mattyb420's First Grow Journal/Himalayan Blue Diesel/Lamberts Potting Mix/2013

So it's been quite some time since I sat down and had the time to update. Everything is going swimmingly, we're about 3 weeks into bloom and looking healthy as hell. Lots of pictures for you guys of my buddy recently. How much longer would you guys wait to start harvesting? I tied all my tall colas and larger buds back last night, so the centre of the plant with lots of small buds get more light. what are your opinions? hoping to beef up a little more and harvest soonish.

Alright chap,

I haven't stopped by in a while, my apologys. But it seams like you have everything under control.

If you have any problems let me know and I'll help or put you on the right path to someone who does

Well done so far

When did the flowers start showing? It looks like you still have a couple of weeks still but I'm no expert on that one. But I know some people who will gladly advise, I'll get on it.

Re: Mattyb420's First Grow Journal/Himalayan Blue Diesel/Lamberts Potting Mix/2013

I've had do were for about 2 weeks. I'm figuring I've got another 2 to go for sure. Anyone you can send my way is appreciated haha.

Re: Mattyb420's First Grow Journal/Himalayan Blue Diesel/Lamberts Potting Mix/2013

Thought this might help..

Information taken from the short stuff seed bank

Himalaya Blue Diesel

Type : Auto flowering indica/sativa hybrid
Auto Type: Mid sized next generation auto
Height : 12 – 30 inches
Harvest : 8-10 weeks from seed
Yield : 18 – 30g per plant || Up to 650g per Sq Meter
Indoors/Outdoors
Effect : couchlock stone
Potency : 9/10
Breeder: STITCH

Product Description

Himalaya Blue diesel is a cross of our Blue Himalaya strain and New york city diesel. Blue Himalaya is an indica dominant auto which was the result of crossing the fattest, most resinous Nepalese kush plant we could find with our auto line and then introducing a complex blueberry hybrid. The result was a highly resinous strain which stayed very short and gave off a wonderful blueberry aroma. We took this awesome blue kush strain and then crossed it with new york city diesel to add spiciness and extra potency and the result blew us away.

The plant has very chunky, compact buds that often turn blue or purple at the end of the flowering period. It can get a fair bit taller than the Blue Himalaya, sometimes reaching 70 or 80cm but most examples with be 50-60 cm and can easily yield an ounce. The strain gives off fruity and spicy scents and has wonderful medicinal qualities borne out of its indica heritage.

Didn't realize it was an auto, so good job i checked.

I would go by this pal. And keep an eye on the colour of the tricomes (or how ever you spell em)

I would say at least 2-3 weeks, but i'm no expert.

But i know a dude who might be able to help better, ill send him a message for ya

Re: Mattyb420's First Grow Journal/Himalayan Blue Diesel/Lamberts Potting Mix/2013

Hello mattyb420, Nice grow my man.
Auto's can differ slightly from the breeders description of seed to finish so you are gonna have to develop your skills in judging when they are done.
A lot of people go off the trichome colour. About 30% of the trichomes should be amber when the plant is at its peek, from then on the trichomes begin to degrade. This however is not the whole story. By looking at your buds regularly you will develop an eye for ripeness. The last couple of weeks of flower development is when the weight gets packed on and the potency really gets going. First you will see the calyxes swelling up accompanied by the hairs browning off and pulling into the calyxes. Your above plant still has nice healthy white pistle hairs with a few starting to shrivel. She is also a bit to healthy looking for so far into flower which indicates that she has high nitrogen levels which results in a harsh smoke. Stop using nutes and water with clean water to force the plant to use up this excess nitrogen to improve the smoke. Try not to be impatient and harvest to early as it will reduce your yield and you will have immature buds.
Good luck:thumb:

Re: Mattyb420's First Grow Journal/Himalayan Blue Diesel/Lamberts Potting Mix/2013

:ciao: Hello.

Looking at your last pics, you are alot further away than two weeks. The hairs are not withered, nor are the calyx's swelling up. You want at least two weeks of swelling or else you will have some really light and airy nugs.

Auto's are a strange beast it seems. They show early, then bud too long. At leat the good ones do. :)

My opinion on tying the buds back might strike you as odd. Dont do it. Its too late plus you cant control an auto as much as a photo. I would rather just blast the top's to get them as full as possible and then maybe do a duel harvest. Tops, thena week or two more for the popcorns.

Your plants look very healthy, just don't chop them too soon. :)
BTW, all of this is just my opinion based on the autos Ive grown and not the gospel. Hopefully some of this helps and Im happy to answer any other questions if you ave some. :)
