Newbie First Indoor Grow 600W HID

Hey Everyone. Newbie here from Ontario Canada :) So this is my first attempt at growing. Legal here so I decided why not :).
got a 4x4 tent, 4” exhaust fan and filter, 600w light and a few other goodies to go along. I started with clones, wanted 2 Blueberry and 2 Bubba Kush. Somehow got all 4 Bubba :(. Oh well. It’s a start. Growing in organic soil so no nutes (so far), just tap water that I let sit for 48hrs before feeding. I did top all 4 almost 2 weeks ago and they are all doing good so far. Here are some pics. Will post more in a bit. My next round I want to setup 4 2x2 rooms that I will build and put 1 plant in each room and try some different techniques, lights, LST and ScrOg? Etc. Just because I’m curious :) I have a cheap LED from amazon that will go in one, the 600w will go in another, maybe a DIY cob build for 3rd and I would love to do a DIY strip light setup for the 4th. I have the room in the basement for my future fun :) so why not right?
Anywho, any comments, guidance, etc would be great. Thanks again everyone on here. Love the site and all the help
Dezi

Man, I’m dying at your avatar! That show was absolutely wild! anyways I’ll follow along. How old are the plants now?
Hahahahahhaha. Ya I saw it and thought for sure I gotta use that pic. The show was hilarious to say the least. Ummmmm. I would say they are around 40 days. I got them on Mat 2nd as clones and buddy said he needs 3 weeks to get them ready. So that puts it around 40 days. Ya. They are really sucking up water now too. Watering with tap water every day. No nutes and r anything. I did order ph down and calmag as I want to have everything I need for when I go into flower. Any suggestions on nutes for flowering?

Everyday? Maybe think about potting up. I’ve barely used my pH down. Have a couple bottles of it. I pH up on every feed. Using R.O. water, starts out at 6 by the time I add all my nutes and additives ends up around 5.3 then I pH up to 6.3. I’ve used the GH trio with good results. This time I’m using AN trio for the first time.

Small check in. They all seem to be doing ok. Really thirsty though. Giving them about 2 litres a day each plant. I check every morning and the soil is dry. They are in 4 gallon pots and at roughly 40 days in. Comments, advice, suggestions always welcome :).

Well I potted up today and found a few issues that I am concerned with. I think I have Mold on one plant and something else in another. Here are some pics. Definitely needed to pot up. Did some cleaning up and removed some leaves here and there and decided to just give them a nice water straight from the hose and will leave them outside for a couple hours before I bring them in. There is a nice breeze out tonight and the are in the shade. What can I hurt? Well if this screws then up, I will try again. Hopefully you guys can help me out.

I'll let the experts chime in but up potting may resolve most or even all of your issues. They will certainly be better off. They look lovely otherwise!
Thanks. I’m trying :) hope I didn’t go too crazy chopping leaves off near the bottom. I figure they aren’t doing any good down low so get rid of them and let the air flow improve? Right? Time will tell. Still only water feeding. No nutes at all. I do have some cal/mag though, I just don’t know when I should start to use it?

Hey Dezi, looks like could have been the start of a bit or root fungi/rot. Maybe the watering of 2L a day was a bit much? Proper wet/dry cycles are very beneficial for the plants. IMO you should water them with the 2L and lift em and see the weight, then keep lifting them again over the next few days. They should be feather light by the time of the next feed. You could weigh them after the watering on a scale, a cubic foot of water weighs 62.5lbs which is approximately 28L so 2L would be around 4lbs of water. So whatever the plant weighs in at wait until it’s 4lbs lighter for the next watering. What other concerns did you have my friend? The leaf? Have you checked for critters? Other than that they look like @Modest grower said they look great!

Thanks man. I will weigh and water. I think potting up to the bigger size will for sure help. I couldn’t believe how fast the roots grow. Did trim a bunch off near the bottom for more air flow. I looked at the underside of a bunch of leaves as well and didn’t see any bugs or signs. I guess my biggest worry was the sagging and the little bit of mold. I hope I cleared that up. Time will tell. Did I do ok by using the water hose to give them a good drink after I potted up? I know I’m supposed to let the water sit for up to 48 hours since it’s tap water but I didn’t have any ready this round. I will for the next watering though which I will wait till they are dry and light before that happens :)

The way I see it, people flush plants in bathtubs. So I mean technically you did 1 flush... how bad could it be. I wouldnt worry about it myself. If the roots concern you enough you could do a Hydrogen Peroxide flush. Although I don’t think it’s necessary. If you do go that route, 10:1 water to Hydrogen Peroxide would be the mix. Water heavily and let fully dry, then back on the regular schedule. I say you should be good though.

Edit:
As far as Cal/Mag goes, I feed it from first feed. Due to the fact I’m using R.O water and under LED. Calcium ionizes at around 420nm wavelength, causing it to bind to other elements rendering some of it immobile. So to make up for the parts that are immobilized I add a little extra.

Hope all is well Dez,
Yep I think so. I potted up 2 days ago and today is day 3. Never watered until today. I think they are doing much better. I was watering waaaaaay too much for sure. I did add half dose of cal/mag this morning just to be safe. Gotta be getting around 50 days as well so I think about another week or so and I will be switching to 12/12 as I will have height restrictions. Pics to come shortly.

Nice, glad to hear it. Can’t wait to see the update.
Well a couple pics to add for ya all. I did pot up the girls as they were getting a little crowded. Did some trimming near the bottom and cleaned them up. Also my stands came in which is nice so they have been added to get the girls off the floor. It has only been a few day roughly since they were transplanted and wow they have started to take off again. Only watering now once every 2.5-3 days. Started to use cal/mag and have been ph’ing my water. Let me know what you guys think. I am almost close to my height restrictions but I think they need to get a bit more bushier? I don’t want to switch to 12/12 yet. Or should I? Thanks everyone:)

That sounds about right! Glad it’s working out for you. Plants look good. What kind of restrictions do you have? remember these things are gonna stretch in the first few weeks of flower!
Thanks. Restrictions are height with my light and tent. I figured that when I am half way the height of my tent I should switch to flower? Any ideas?

I’d say less than that they’re already mature enough. They could triple in size. It’s up to you though. You can gauge the room better than anyone on here can. For example my last run I trained a plant to the edge of a 5G bucket, I put into flower at like 6” and adjusted the canopy constantly and after stretch and adjustments it still ended up being 38” from soil to tip. Was getting like an inch to inch and half of stretch daily.
