Old Dog - New Tricks

Hello,
I haven't had a garden since 2018. I do live in a legal state now and will start a grow journal.

I've done this before, several times. 🤫 It's just been awhile. This will be my first time using LEDs, my first time using autoflowering strains, and my first time in a small tent. I have a mixed bag of seeds that were purchased online recently. Some are autos, some are feminized photos, and some are regular photos. I have mostly Hybrids and CBD strains. I've started with a light soil mix, 3g fabric pots and some strip LEDs to sprout. They're on week 2 above the dirt, and have just started to really take off. The LEDs are all new to me. I have 2 strips (42w ea) for sprouting. 2 black boxes - full spectrum with dimmers (65w ea) for vegging and finally, a dual switch (veg and bloom) black box (239w) that I plan to use for flowering, with both switches turned on. The tent is a dual chamber design with a 48x48x80 area for flowering, and a 12x48x80 area for sprouting. I need 1 more tent dedicated to veg only.

I used to roll with 2x 4x8 tents and a 14x14 room with a 12ft ceiling. That was all HID lighting and a lot of work. I like growing in dirt, so imagine the amount that I had to lug down the stairs. I got sick in 2020 so I'm scaling way back. I can't lug all that dirt down the stairs anymore. It's a rare genetic fluke and they don't have a cure. In this category of diseases, I also happen to have "exceedingly rare" gene markers and moderate bone marrow scarring. They want to do more testing but I know what the results are. It just gets worse and worse the more they dig, so I'm done diggin. The good news is, I've got 10--15yrs (are doctors ever right?) to enjoy an early retirement with my lovely wife and 2 dogs.

I never expected to retire. I'm GenerationX and I think most of us expected to raw-dog it through life and work until we died. Retirement? What's that? I found a way to beat the system!! 🤭🫣 It's quite boring. I've got fish tanks and pew pews and RC toys and golf clubs and fishin rods and and and and -- you eventually get bored with all of it. I miss my career. My wife suggested I document my grows this time around. I was never much for posting pics or telling people what I used to do in the past with this hobby we all love. It's all legal now and I'm not even near my plant count. I don't need that much for just me. I guess there's very little, to no harm in a little "weed porn".

Looking good bro, I think I run cheese every time as I love the cheese/skunk strains. Norther lights was a old faverote too 👌 both have strong Afghani in their lineage which was the goat back in the day and probably still is now 😂 🤞 they turn out nice and you enjoy them!

Welcome! You’re in the right place. Excellent forum here.
Nice looking start to your grow. Northern Lights is a fav of mine too. And so far my preference is autos too. Good luck. Definitely tagging along.
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I hope you get to enjoy the time predicted. As someone who was off work for 2.5 years with an injury (definitely not the same thing) I can relate to the boredom. It’s not the worst thing ever but it gets loooong and boring sometimes. Growing sure did help me cope. Smoking too lol. I wish I could have had more than the 4 plants we are allowed here on the go at the same time. Would have made the time less long. Looking forward to watching your progress.

Welcome, Puffer!

I'm new here, too.

I understand what it takes to get sick and start getting weaker. I have stage IV prostate cancer and I'm on hormone deprivation. Getting weaker fast sucks, I know.

I was a competitive athlete and state champion in my age group until this hit. Now I'm weak as a kitten and relegated to growing with pure perlite in 2.7-gallon pots, just to help keep the weight down.

I'm starting a grow journal soon, too. I'll be looking forward to yours.
