Are using blood & bone meal the best natural ways to control your soil ph?

As far as I know, bone meal raises pH. It's a great source of Phosphorus and Calcium, though. What do you mean by controlling?

Control meaning if you need to lower or raise it. We have natural spring water I use. Today when I checked the soil ph it was just about a 7. So was the water on tap from the spring. We had lots of rain & I think that's why it's higher than normal. I noticed some yellowing leaves down low. That's what made me check it.

You can raise it with blood meal but pH7 is a borderline. Bone meal doesn't really work if pH is higher than 7.

For pH control I would use pH+ and pH- They are, usually, very stable and are made specifically for this purpose.

But then, I grow in hydro. I'm sure some of 420's soil specialists will chime in soon.

I read bone meal will raise the alkaline & I thought blood would go the other way to acidic side. But I may have read it wrong.

Sulfur is a much better acidifier. Blood and bone meal are amendments meant to add 'N', 'P' and 'Ca'.

You're right. I was supposed to write "blood" but wrote "bone" instead. My bad. Sorry about that.
