Hi guys,

So with just a few days left of my 1st ever grow, I’ve kicked off the 2nd.

No journal was ever created for my first grow, but I do have lots of pictures through out it’s journey. If anyone’s interested I’ll post the photos on here somewhere.

I’ve met a few people who have grown themselves, but personally never thought I’d bother. With some persuasion from a friend I decided to give it a try.

I assumed it’d be a case of just popping in the tent around 6pm as the lights turn off, give it some water and walk away. Oh how wrong was I! I faced numerous problems, over watering, under watering, nutrient deficiencies, fan falling on a plant and braking some branches, luckily just small lower end ones, humidity and a very small amount of mold, which did take 1 main cola in week 7 of flowering :(.

After all that, IM HOOKED. I’m constantly researching, watching videos, reading journals, checking out every possible problem and how to resolve it. If only I’d researched this much through school!

I’ve made some space and can now start my seedlings and do the first 3 weeks of VEG in a small cupboard with a little T5 light then put them in the tent under the 2 600w HPS.

A little about my setup.

Seeds
Gorilla Zkittlez from Barney’s Farm

Veg light
T5 light

Flower light
2 x 600w HPS (1 per 4 plants)

Nutrients
Dutch Pro complete set

Pots
11-12 litre buckets.

PH
6.5

So I’m sure I’ve lost most of you by this point, thanks if you’re still reading. Picture is 24 hours after I put them in soil. Also attached is how I germinated the seeds.

Hi guys,

Another immediate update which catches me up :)

Day 3

All very similar, except 1, seems a day or so behind the rest and doesn’t appear to be opening up as fast as the rest. I only have space for 8 in the tent, so I don’t mind seeing 1 or 2 lagging behind.

Hi guys,

Day 4.

All looking healthy, have given them nutrients today, along with the first litre of water shared between them all.

So far so good.

Sunday is harvest day for my 1st grow, cannot wait!

Hi,

Day 5, all looking healthy after yesterday’s nutrients, gave them water until 10% run off, so still wet today, don’t expect to water until tomorrow or possibly the next, will give the nutrients every time.

Happy to go over the amount of nutrients I’m giving if anyone wants to know, but it is just following Dutch pro advice, I don’t give half or quarter amounts unless the plant shows some nutrient burn.

I have been reading up on people flushing through out the grow, seems extremely varied on how this is done, such as nutrient every other water, or nutrient for a few days then a break. If anyone has any tips or just wants to explain how they do it id love to hear about it. All up for learning, and willing to try new things, especially as I’m so new to this.

Thanks for reading so far, FEEL FREE TO COMMENT ;)

Hi Oldsmokey,

Ahh that’ll be a good comparison, are you doing a journal, looked on your page but couldn’t see one (however I am new so not sure how to find yours if you do).

I’m growing in soil, using dutch pro complete nutrients. 11 litre pots for flower.

4 weeks veg, 8 flower

It won’t be the same soil. I was advised to use this at the shop, but my first thought when using it was that it seemed to have a lot less perlite, believe it or not it does have some, but it seems a really low amount.

I will get the names of the soil, just don’t have them handy. I did notice my last grow was requiring water daily, where as I watered yesterday and it didn’t need any today. If it doesn’t dry out by tomorrow or the next day I may re pot them into the original soil I used with a lot higher concentrate of perlite. So far they seem to be growing.

I’ve attached a couple of photos of my current grow, it is also GZ. Ready to harvest in a day or 2. Unfortunately it is under the HPS bulb. One of the photos is where I had mold, I had to remove the top bud :(

Just a few questions. How long do you plan to veg for? What medium are you using? Do you plan to scrog, I love the idea of doing a scrog, but with it being just my 2nd grow I want to get things right this time round as I made countless mistakes last time, including getting mold and my plants were root bound quite badly.

Hey, thanks for the comment.

I’ve been reading a lot, and only noticed this mega crop on this page, at first thought I assumed it was some kind of LST, realising now it’s the feed. Have you grown is this before, the small amount of reading I did seemed very positive.

I’m not sure if coco is harder or easier than soil to grow in, but I would like to try and grow in coco once I’ve got some experience under my belt.

Just had a peek at your journal, love your scrog setup. Will you do this with the GZ?

I grow 8 plants in a 1.2 by 2.4 metre tent. Last time I had them in veg for 5 weeks, but it was severely root bound so I likely had some slow growth nearer the end of that. I’ve attached a few picture of the day I flipped them. Any idea how much longer I’d need to veg for this time round to fill a scrog with 8 plants. It will be 2 separate nets to make it a little easier to feed them.

Hey oldsmokey,

They look awesome! They look similar to a lot of the mainlining journals I’ve been checking out, something I’d love to try, but I don’t want to spend any more than 6 weeks on Veg.

Do you use promix hp through out the whole grow?

Updates with the mega crop would be really appreciated, I haven’t researched enough to decide as of yet, but I’ve got around 8 weeks until my next batch of seedlings go in. It’ll be interesting to hear how yours get on.

I’m eager to see how my new plants do while giving the full nutrients from Dutch Pro, where as last time I started off with as little as 1/8th of the advised measurement to ensure no burns while using Canna and gradually went up each week, never actually giving the full nutrients.

Day 6

Hey 420,

Appear to have a bit of a heat spot under the T5 on the left side, 6 on the left were dry, 4 on the right were drying up but still have some damp spots, so will water them 4 in the morning. Hopefully I’ll have them in a routine in a week or so, just being extra careful this early on.

Have continued using the Dutch Pro nutrients with this water, take root 1ml, A 2.5ml, B 2.5ml. Used the multi total last time and noticed a lot of people online mentioning once every 2 weeks, so will use that in another week or so.

Have added some more photos.

Well I’m in a bit of a predicament with that. I used just some builder 11 buckets last time. I’d like to get some air pots or smart pots, maybe 4 of each and see which I prefer more.

I found the 11 litre to be a little small and I had some more space to use up. I’d like to find a 4 gallon fabric pot.

What size do you use? Are you limited on space?

If I were to push to a size like that I’d have to lower the amount of plants to 6 instead of 8. I do run just a 4 week veg and purposely buy seeds with around an 8 week flower to ensure they don’t get too big.

Tomorrow I’ll be cutting my GZ down, so I’ll get some pictures of the root, you may have more of an idea than me if they could of done with a bigger pot.

If I could find taller fabric pots I would buy them, as looking at the last grow, height was never an issue, I had plenty more space to move the lights as I was keeping a consistent 10-14 inches. Don’t seem to see many people growing in taller pots, not sure if it’s unsuitable for cannabis or if people are being careful of personal height restrictions in their own room/tent.

Hey @oldsmokey

I went up to 5 gallon pots, more than double in size from the last pots I used. I went for the fabric ones. It’s not quite 7 yet but I’ll see how I get on with these.

Also harvested my first ever grow tonight which was GZ. Had all sorts of ups and downs, lots of lessons learned. But have 80oz wet off 8 plants, will update the dry weight once dried.
