LED vs HPS: is everyone really on the same bandwagon?

Hi fella and welcome.l. I was a HPS stalwart grower for 20 odd years on and off. I was running 1200 w hps and never thought LED could ever have me over. I waited years while it developed and saw some serious bullshit along the way. I converted to mars hydro TSL-2000 's and ran 2 that used 600 w at the wall. My harvest was on par with my 1200 w besides a fe errors on my part that cost me pkants in flower and so yield but the Buds were the hardest and densest I have ever grown. Have a look in my last journal Barneys cup winners . My current grow is also with an additional sp250 which draws 250w. Rhey are full spectrum and run nice and cool with no fans . heres where my ladies at at Day 57 from seed and nearly 3 weeks flowering
Very reasonable prices on them too. I have no regrets at all

qb's are super bright, and the heatsinks get warm, but not even hot to the touch. they'll be perfect for summer. as it is now tho i have to add heat to the room when it gets real cold out. i'll also be happy so see my hydro bill go down a whole bunch.

Just scroll back 10yrs ago in the completed journals with 600 or 1000w hps and compare to the pics you see today. I’m of the opinion hps is just superior for flowering. 1000w single source just plain “penetrates” compared to 500 set chips. I’ll never use HIDs as LED gives 85% results for 60% effort. I guess if you’re a cropper, scrogger, lster, lollipopper.... it may not matter as much. Just my opinion as a VERY satisfied LED user.

hps its not even close,
when you ask the hard questions the answers invariably become "you just dont understand the physics"
the problem is I do but i dont understand magic

Pertaining to QB only!
From my personal experience. I've ran 1000w hps for roughly 15 years. In my small flower room I replaced two 1000w hps with 1080w of led (qb with Samsung diodes). I grew 2 crops under the qb. Here's my personal observation.

Using QB I obviously used alot less power. I also got slightly bigger buds, denser buds and yield just as much as I did using two 1000w hps. However....flavor, smell, taste and triches were not comparable at all. HPS takes the cake for me.

I think the right LED setup is a great choice for anyone. I believe there is still some work that needs done to perfect them though. I think the new R-spec are a step in the right direction. I'd love to be able to build or order custom panels!

Aaaaaannnd then there's me :D I grow using 4x1800watt cob LEDs and 4x400watt HPS in a 2.2W X2.2L X 2.2H 1600D Mars Hydro tent. In the winter time the HPS helps keep the space warm and in the summer time using the LEDs cuts back on the heat. I can turn my 200mm fan off in winter if it's too cold and in summer I can run it to cool it down. It means I can run all 8 lights all the time if I want to. I get great results.

Thats alot of firepower in a 2X2 tent
No burn or heat issues?

I'm glad you asked, I have a grow journal going at the moment that you might find interesting. I have absolutely no problems with heat or light burn. I am able to mitigate the temperature in summer by running my lights between 9pm and 9am which cuts out the heat of the day. I also have a 200mm fan and filter running on full to draw out some of the heat and a 200mm fan with adjustable speed which I use to blast cooler air into the tent during summer or turn down or off during the winter. I chose 400watt hps lights because they produce less heat than say 3 600watt and although there is 4 of them it spreads the heat out by having them placed between the LEDs.

I had that same thought. I think it’s in meters as he also used mm for fan dimensions.

Still a lot of power for a 6.6’ x 6.6’. Tent.

Hola que tal.Hello.

After many many years, ive come back to the forums.
All i see is LED LED.
After searching the net, i got nothing but marketing(perhaps its my censored net)
Ive been browsing the forum and see a massive diference in growth HPS vs LED
Lumens aprately dont matter in LED. Hmm.
What have ppl got to say? im interested in reading some scientfic artcles

if anyone could point me to some quality LED vs HPS info, i would really appreciate it(im sure the others would too)

These guys know their stuff.
Happy growing

I actually use both I have a 600w HPS and 4 400watt LED and it seems to help on my grows. I have mylar on all sides of the wall which helps reflect all the light back onto the plants with no waste. Here are a few pictures of my last grow that was finished about two weeks ago. PS excuse the pink smoke room it has been the subject of many mind blowing smoke conversations.

Just finishing my first run under a 600w hps. Then switched to a 1000w hps for flower. Just ordered and recieved a spider-farmer sf-2000. And holy cow is it bright. Extremely excited to finish up this run and hang her up. Temps have been a little bit of a struggle for me, so also excited to see how they look under led vs the hps I've run this go. Not to mention the lower operating cost..

I read all the Amazon reviews and some web sites reviews, but does anyone here have any personal experience with this company and these lights? I will be doing a journal next run under mine. But just looking for anyone heres 2 cents in the mean time.
