Nirvana Northern Lights Autoflower - First Grow - CFL - Indoors

PB do you know that we run almost same set up ? and we are about if not exactly same day of growth?:passitleft:
I think now that you feed your girls the big old leafs and growth that are not in light sight only takes, and better remove also for better air.And i also believe that the defoliation step by step is better for the plant than a massive defoliation laterz(that can stress the ladies)
Certainly you grow your way as everyone draw his own growing canva (im first timer like you)and we are going to enjoy some nice(maybe the best for me) joints of our life till now :yummy: ...
But my 2 cents in here is START DEFOLIATION and do some lolipoping hahaha

Quotes from others:

"What does lollipopping mean? I have no clue... "

"You cut all the bottom branches that become popcorn buds/ sucker branches. and where light dosent hit to good. some where around 1/3 of ur plant is how much to cut off the bottom., every one has diff ways of doing it "

"i will swear by it! i will always lollipop all my plant. "

"But you know what People...I like the Popcorn Buds The Lower Branches produce.
For sampling, Smokin' first saving Colas for Special Occasions. What you gain lollipoping, Is the popcorn buds you cut....Yes? Your Thoughts? "

I also have read you shouldn't lolipop the plants until they have stopped their vertical growth, which mine have not. Martha has grown ~1" in the last day. I'm gonna wait to do any severe defoliation until at least that point. I'm still not sure that in terms of total production (espescially in auto flower plants) would be improved by lolipopping the plants. In photoperiod plants maybe it would get you better yields but with the restrictions of autoflowers lifecycle I think it might be too much stress and too little time to recover from it.

BTW here are some photo's of martha's tops

Yeah I tend to agree with you Paintedbudman - I dont know if I want to risk the stress.. maybe I will do a bit of proper trimming once the girls are two weeks away from the finish line...Thanks for the explanation!

He said, everybody has all this stuff, pH meters, TDS meters, premeasured nutes, etc, etc, etc.
I hear you. It's weed, not Orchids, and will grow fine without gizmos or some secret technique.
And you probably don't pay 0.25€/kwh for power over there, like we do here, so efficiency is less important.
However, hemp can use very high amounts of light and can accellerate growth to astounding speed with them.
In flowering, the amount of light not only directly determines the size of your harvest, but also has a slight influence on the length of the flowering period (buds with lower light levels mature slower). You can never really have enough light for hemp. Even with fairly powerful setups, only the upper canopy can be fully saturated.. and any measures to reduce its depth (scrog, defoliation, harvesting in 2 stages) slow down the process.

Anyway, those plants look quite good, keep it up. :thumb:

and i hear you,,
weed will grow with very minimal help,, but the more you invest in,, the better you take care of them,, the better they will reward you

Grasbauer, I agree with everything you just said. My electric rates are ~$0.075/kwh with a bunch of fees and other stuff tagged on to be about 50% more than that so maybe $0.11/kwh is what i pay in the end. More light is better as long as it doesn't bring a huge amount of heat with it. I made my setup partly as a test to see if I enjoyed the process before investing a lot more space, time, and money in the project. I have thoroughly enjoyed the grow so far and in the future I see a 6'x6' grow tent with LED grow lights equivalent to a 800-1000HPS. But before that happens I'm gonna finish this grow and maybe 2 more while I gather the funds together.

Thanks for the compliment on the plants it is appreciated. Just looking forward to the day I taste test the smoke from my own grow.

Martha is really doing good, here is a closeup of one of her growing buds. Been playing with my camera)

Sally and Kim are budding as well, just not as well developed yet. Pip and JOe are a bit further behind. I can see the trichromes :yummy:

Slayer, I'm on day 50 from first germination, day 46 from dicot leaves opened up and thanks I think they are looking good .... can't wait till i can taste test it though, :)

Beautiful girls you got there PB,i suggest some defoliation at the lows ;).

NightsmokerG, I thought about it and decided to do a little experimentation (I'm work in research and development in the real world) and thin out one of my plantys and leave another that appears to be at the same stage of development. Run them that way through the end and see what happens. Here are some more pot porn (previous pot porn i've posted: my ladies private parts (pistols), her tops). Here is a classic set of upskirt photos. :clown:

Merry Christmas Everyone

And may Each and Every One of You have a new year filled with Love and Joy
and oh yes, have a
Green New Year Too!!

I may have made a big mistake. Today is my scheduled feeding day. When there is a change in the nutes, I try it out on Pip first figuring if she takes it fine then the others should have no problem. Did that yesterday. I got up this morning and checked, she looked fine so I fed Joe. Then I remembered I hadn't run a TDS on the nute solution (pH and TDS are standard tests for me before I apply the nutes). I ran it and OMG the TDS was almost twice what it should be. I think I doubled up on one of the nutes. I mixed another gallon and it came out fine. Now I'm just watching to see if anything horribly wrong happens. I would have thought that Pip would have shown signs of nute burn by now but nothing .... she looks just like yesterday. I hope the Northern Lights strain is as forgiving about nutes as I have read or else I may have just nearly destroyed 40% of my harvest, with an auto there is no time to recover from a mistake like this. Oh well, newbie here making newbie mistakes. I'll just use this as a learning experience and don't repeat my mistake. Remember, smart people learn from their mistakes, really smart people learn from other peoples mistakes. I guess i know which category I fit into. :) LOL

Slayer and NightsmokerG, thanks for the support. I was already at the recommended nute level. According to the TDS I hit them with about 200% of the recommended dosages. Well, apparently I haven't destroyed these tough little ladies as they Pip and Joe look just fine this evening. Everybody is looking good. Martha is budding like mad, had to tie her down a couple places to keep them off the ceiling. Sally and Kim are budding and growing as well, They are about a week behind Martha. Pip and Joe are starting to bud but appear to be about a week and a half behind Martha. Here are a couple of pics of the girls (no individual shots, the girls are to grown together to pull them out without damage, not sure what I am going to do when I flush them in 2-3 weeks). Also included is a new pot porn picture of Sally, Enjoy

Thanks slayer, I appreciate the vote of confidence. The closer I get to the end the more I worry about some freek accident coming along. Just irrational fears I guess but it is surprising just how often defeat has been snatched from the jaws of victory by one little mistake. Just have to be as cautious as i can and keep my fingers crossed :)
