Obi's AK-48 - A Grow Journal & Review

Speaking of the next grow, I need to put a seed order in. I've narrowed the selection down to Papaya or Swiss Cheese. I'm going to try a 1:1 THC/CBD strain too I think.

Anyone have experience with Papaya or Swiss Cheese? I've turned up some reviews and vids and I'm torn, lol.

Making some temporary adjustments to the environment in effort to raise the lights off temps. First I raised the air intake above the light and away from the root zone.

Next I installed my Variac and lowered the voltage going to the exhaust fan slowing it down considerably. The fan is now running on about 80v rather than 115v. Reducing the air exchange should allow the cabinet to warm up a bit more.

Here we see a couple of the plants beginning to show signs of perking up and beginning new growth again.

Temps have ranged from 61F/16C to 86F/30C. RH reads 25%-69% I do not trust that reading.

Day: 11
Stage: Veg
Veg Days: 11
Flower Days: 0
Light: 24/0 6500K CFL's
Temps: 78F-82F / 25C-27C
RH: 52%-58%
Water: RO pH 5.7
Amount: To run off, then then drained the reservoirs
Nutrients: 2.0ml CalMag, 0.25ml Grow, 0.5ml Micro, 0.25ml Bloom per Gallon / 3.75L

Notes: The late starting plant from the peat starter plug is larger and darker green than its sisters in the rockwool cubes.

I need to pick up a second heavy duty light timer.

Like you I had my first dud seed this time. Managed 10/10 last time but only 4.5/6 this (culled one)

So do you think a peat starter plug is better than wood mate?

A quick update. The plants continue to improve. I get the feeling they've hit their reservoirs. I'm still struggling a bit with cool temps but improving with the weather outside. I feel the transplant and cool temps have slowed the early veg stage a bit.

Notes: Plants appear healthy and stable. All plants were topped for the first time today. I trimmed up a few lower branches and leaves while I was in there as well. Additionally, I raised the buckets further off of the floor.

Lastly, there are visible preflowers on all plants.

Due to the slowed veg growth I'm going to determine when to flip to 12/12 by measuring plant size rather than counting veg days. I'm going to flip at about 18in/45cm in height.

Flower Days: 0
Light: 18/6 6500K 400W T5HO
Temps: 63F-83F / 17C-28C
RH: 34%-53%
Water: RO pH 5.8
Amount: 2Gal/11.35L divided between the 4 plants. No runoff.
Nutrients: 5ml CalMag, 3ml FloraMicro, 3ml Grow, 1ml Bloom, 3ml Nectar SugarCane per Gal/3.75L
Nutrient Strength: @ 60%

Notes: I bumped up the CalMag ratio this feeding. I am seeing some fade that looks like possible early signs of a magnesium deficiency. Otherwise the plants appear to be growing vigorously. I'm going to get in there and LST some tops.

Late Update
02/03/2017
Day: 55
Stage: Veg
Veg Days: 55
Flower Days: 0
Light: 18/6 6500K 400W T5HO
Temps: 61F-81F / 16C-27C
RH: 33%-53%
Water: RO pH 5.8
Amount: 2Gal/11.35L divided between the 4 plants. No runoff.
Nutrients: 5ml CalMag, 3ml FloraMicro, 3ml Grow, 1ml Bloom, 5ml Nectar SugarCane per Gal/3.75L
Nutrient Strength: @ 65%

Notes: Plants look healthy and are growing nicely. I performed a little LST of the tops and lowered the light a couple inches. I'm going to try to keep the tops tied down as best I can to let the side branches catch up a bit more.

Future calendar of events:
Feb 18 - Flip to 12/12 and begin transition to 4000K light
Mar 1 - Begin counting flowering days
May 1 - Harvest? We'll see

Here are a couple pics from last night's LST and feeding:

Day: 60

Veg Days: 60
Flower Days: 0
Light: 18/6 6500K 400W T5HO
Temps: 61F-81F / 16C-27C

Water: RO pH 5.8
Amount: 4Gal/11.35L divided between the 4 plants. Some runoff each.
Nutrients: 5ml CalMag per Gal/3.75L
Nutrient Strength: @ 100%

Notes: Heavy water day. The plants were pretty dry and looking a bit droopy.

I wanted to get a good dry cycle in followed by a nice deep watering. Done. Next, I want to get a little trimming done before transition. I will let the plants re-hydrate for a day or two and then cull the lower, weaker branches.

The plants are looking pretty good and continue to rejuvenate from their brief drought. You can see some battle scars in the lower growth that occurred while I learned to dance with these girls. I would still like to do a bit of pruning within the next 48 hours.

We have some fairly decent side branching filling in and the main stems are sturdy.

Do you think we can grow 6in/15cm in 7 days? Let's try!

Notes: I defoliated/lollipopped today. It was the most aggressive I've ever defoliated. I removed a couple weak branches and cleaned up the underbrush. The plants have about 6 days to recover before flip to 12/12.

I'm getting excited to see what these plants do during transition.
