Black African Magic

Each of the first bottom 4 nodes on a seedling grow with opposite branching where the nodes come out opposing each other. After that, they typically grow in an  alternating mode, one comes out on one side and then slightly higher on the other side as they circle around the stem. That's a sign that it's sexually mature (for a photoperiod) and can be flipped to flower anytime after that, although with a photoperiod, the longer you delay, the larger the plant, and therefore harvest, will be.

Don’t know if it has fallen off yet, but you need to help that little one shed that seed husk. Gently Try and release the nodes
I'm late chiming in, but I always spray the seedling with sterile water before removing the shell and membrane (when needed) and let it soak in for a minute. The moisture softens the membrane and allows it to slide off more easily.

So, after being the first ever to nearing kill plants by under watering…They have decided to grow…grow…GROW!

Thanks for the help everyone, still lots of learning to go, but I feel confident in this part now. Right now I am at every 4 days for watering, I find with about 6 hours left of light and day 4 the leaves will just barely start to droop, water at lights on for next cycle, 1-2 hours later they are reaching for the light.

Next grow will be only one plant or a larger tent…I did not expect to keep Purple Diesel and OG Kush alive, started with two Black African Magic as I expected one to not make it…Got a wee bit of a space problem now.

For those of you who know what they are doing: I feel like these are now getting some strength, the stalk is strong and thick, probably 3/8”-1/2”, maybe 30 more days and switch to 12/12?

Also, sorry for the slow update: Been really struggling lately, been fighting sickness and hands have been hurting so bad I havent been able to type.

Thanks everyone,
G 🤙🏻

That may mean they are getting all the light they need in 12 hours of an 18 hour light cycle, so you can turn them down a bit and save some energy.

Flipping to 12/12 for flower may be more determined by your tent height. The plants will stretch 2-3 times the height they were in veg in the three weeks after flip. So work backwards and see how tall they can be at time of flip. If you want much bigger plants you can train them to grow flatter for a bit and extend the time in veg.

Also, sorry for the slow update: Been really struggling lately, been fighting sickness and hands have been hurting so bad I havent been able to type.
Ha! No worries. Hope you get better soon.

Girls look wonderful this morning, healthy and happy.
Sorry to hear your not feeling well, hope your hands feel better.
I type with 1 thumb, very slow, I understand.
Take care my friend.

I meant they just barely start to droop at day 4, after watering, with about 6 hrs of light left. Like they are just drying out at the end of day 4, after watering.

I am on the hunt for a 6 foot tent 😝

Thanks to you and Azimuth I feel like these plants are legitimately healthy now.

Cant wait for BAM to flower. Hopefully it is as strong as i read…

Yeah, crazy junk. I have never been given an answer on what is going on…severe pain…like my bones are bending, bizarre feelings like electricity through my nerves, and every weird thing that you could imagine coming with that from dizziness to disorientation to extreme exhaustion to numbness.

The last week my hands look like I got in a street fight, all metacarpals are swollen, wrist are swollen, feels like i crushed both my hands up to middle forearm. The most physical thing I have done is water my plants. Every time I go to the Dr they just look at me like I am making it up or hurt myself and don’t want to admit it.

I noticed you germinated in paper towels.. Let me drop a little knowledge on you real quick.. seeds contain generations worth of bacteria both inside the shell and on the outside. These bacteria are responsible for immunities, resilience, root hair growth (rhizophagy cycle), etc. basically tons of stuff that the plant has spent generations evolving and using to strengthen itself. When the seed first germinates (cracks open) these bacteria immediately explode into the environment around them and get to work helping the plants establish themselves and start growing. When you germinate in a paper towel or a sterile glass of water you lose these bacteria forever.

The best procedure is to just roll the seeds in myco then plant them directly into your medium. This lets myco make contact with the roots immediately upon germination so it can begin colonizing, no waiting. This also sets up your bacteria side of plant health so they can quickly establish themselves and begin helping your plant be its best self.

This is information that is relatively recent (within the last 5-10 years) but is an incredible discovery that more growers need to hear.

You know I often wonder…plants don't have paper towels in nature…

I love to read, need to read that book. THANK YOU 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻

Question: Good tutorials on Pruning? Details on when, why, what to cut etc?

Assuming you Prune after sexing the plant?

Correct water=JUNGLE! I have successfully grown a jungle…I dont know what to do with it but it is in fact a jungle 😂😂😂😂

Added a simple top down view and shots of the two BAM plants.

I am also switching to a 2x3x6 grow tent, doubling my lights next week.

@Azimuth

Also, I see what you mean know about topping at Node 4, then the leaves will start to alternate when it grows.

Really cool stuff.

I see what you mean about the symmetry as well. They plants above look pretty bushy, but there are four very clean lines reaching out and up, then each line starts to rotate and reach.

I don't prune.
Before I flip I do a little clean out under the skirt.
After stretch I do the same again.
Larfy stuff that will just suck energy and produce nothing.
Looking good.

I don't tend to prune much, similar to Bill. I'll tuck or weigh down fan leaves that are shading other things and I trim off the budlets (but not their fan leaves) down low after stretch so the plant can shift resources to the upper, larger buds.

In veg, when I build the quadline, I also take off any growth nodes growing straight up or down, leaving those shooting off to the side to fill things out. That thins things a bit without being too drastic.

Many growers do do a very heavy deformation late in veg and then after 3rd week of flower and say they get very strong recovery and root growth when they do.

So, another grower's choice.

Okie dokie dokie okie…

These plants have grown like crazy.

Tell me what you think. I am still trying to figure out for sure what to look for to sex the plants. Starting to think I missed that whole phase?

What am I looking at in the pictures here that are close ups? Also, plants are big enough now I can get decent pictures 🤙🏻

Ordering a bigger grow tent next week.

A little early but you're very close. Males will have a little ball elevated on a stick/pole, while the girls will sit down low like in that last picture and will grow a white hairlike structure growing up.

Looks female to me, but not definitive yet.

All 4 plants are basically at the same point now. I really hope Purple Diesel and OG Kush are female as they were bags seeds, wild card.

I have a bigger grown tent coming next week. I never imagined these plants would be so big.
