Autos are a more challenging type to grow and they're often smaller plants with smaller yields. Is there some particular reason you fancy them?

There’s a lot of people who would disagree but with my little experience I agree 100% N I’ll never grow another. CL

Well, thats the kind of stuff I want to hear Real hands on experiences.

I read they were easier so thats what had me curious…but if its more work for less payout that sounds backwards

I suspect it's mainly because there is no recovery time for any problems and each one will stunt the plant permanently. For most growers its watering issues , but also environment, nutes, light, etc.

If you're already a good grower and have everything dialed in or have light issues they can be good, but most growers don't do them justice.

Alrighty.

Pokey being a jackass is good at work so I put him to work on some plans I drew up that were dual purpose, one it gives us a place to live and is also an intake manifold that houses a humidifier. Works out pretty well cause we are made out of clay, so living in a humid disco is jam’n.

PD is growing!
OG is growing!

BAM Thing 1 & Thing 2 are finally taking off. Learning to read the plants, what a thirsty plant looks like, what dry soil feels like, etc.

Wish us luck and lend us advice as we go…cause really…we…know…nothing

Hey everybody! The plants are growing!

I think it is about time to put BAM into larger pots. They are already producing 5 finger leaves which has me excited. Aroma is incredible, bergamot, grapefruit, . PD and OG are really exciting to watch now. The stocks are getting thick, 5 leaf flowers are in as well.

With the way it is looking I will be able to get all 4 of these to flower at the same time

Won't work, of course, with auto's since the clone would be the same age as the mother and would flower at roughly the same time except with very little roots, but definitely photo's can work that way. I grow that way with a perpetual planning to harvest every 6 weeks with two plants.

because it is a long growing auto 100 days + you can take a clone before flowering
This plant was the very top of another auto
Also did some manicuring on the bud

But how did yield compare to the original? And how many days did the clone get after roots but before it flowered?

It was only done as an experiment. To anybody wanting to save money it can be done.
On the long growing autos, topping slows them down for about a week. Yes it did grow a root system & they do grow roots while in flower

Purple Diesel and OG Kush are growing fast!

How long until you all think I should top these two?

I am also feeling like I am starting to to get a good feel for my wet/dry cycles. The plants will have a big growth spurt every time they get a good water followed by light.

Good morning.
After the 5th node they are mature enough to top.
But I like to wait until they are a little bigger and growing vigorously.
Looking good.

What Bill said. Once they get past the forth node they usually start throwing alternating nodes so, if you top between 4th and 5th, the lower branches that then grow out come out in opposite pairs making training more symmetrical.

Exactly right. Now think about a SIP where every day is a day the plants have ample access to water. That's one of the reasons plants tend to grow bigger with SIPs.

Yeah, SIP definitely sounds more and more appealing as I move forward. That should definitely be my route after these 4.

I feel like I should be pretty close to being able to determine the sex too?

oi. when you top, I am assuming there is a very specific section to cut at?

I like to do Quadlining (link in my sig). Good pics on page one even if you decide to do something else.

And I like to leave a good 'stump' when I cut which helps strengthen that node for later on when splitting can be an issue due to weight of the opposing limbs.

I feel like I should be pretty close to being able to determine the sex too?

Once the nodes start growing in alternating, rather than opposite, branches it will be sexually mature enough to flower, and then you can start looking for sex characteristics.
