Blueberry & Durban Poison Cross Project

you have been adding epsom salt to the mix?? Your nutrient mix?

yup. Magnesium sulfate. Coco coir apparently hoards magnesium, so i add calmag regularly. But I read that if the new growth is yellow/green, it indicates a sulfur deficiency. Epsom salts are a standard optional additive in hydro. I actually bought a 25 kg bag of the stuff at the hydro store to use in hot water because my back pain was so bad. When I started hobby growing, I already had it handy.

I'm giving them about 750ppm on average. I could have got them bigger faster, but I was too shy on the nutes at first. This is only my 3rd grow in hydro, and I'm still working out the bugs. Pretty soon they'll be going into the Bloom tent, and I'll up the input a bit then. My main focus is on maintaining a happy atmosphere in there. I'm trying not to burn these suckers like I have done I the past. :)

After only 5 days away, I've returned to find this garden is a jungle! All the plants have grown considerably, but you'll see the most remarkable change can be found on the Durbs. Having trained them down for 2 or 3 weeks, I released them from their anchors before I left, and hoped for the best. Decide for yourself ;)

Good update BG. Interested to see how the Jack Herer cuts work out.

Thanks, Archie, me too. I wouldn't have gone for the clones, but like i said the Jacks are very slow to show any pistils. Everything else is basically two weeks into flower, and the Jacks don't show me nothin. If they do take root and start to grow, i'll maybe treat them like photos and make them flower on my schedule instead of their own.

Today, i did a bunch of work on the Blueberries at my woman's house. I'll try to get the photos in the right order. And it might take two posts. Her plants are showing clear signs of calmag deficiency. Rusty spots on lower leaves. Somewhat stunted growth. Deeply purple stems. I'll try to find a picture of BB1, which is here at my place, to contrast. It gets ample calmag and Epsom salts regularly. BB2 - BB7 all show great structure and I'm optimistic, but I'm looking forward to getting past this stage. They just went into 12/12 a few days ago, the same day i switched mine.

In a couple weeks I will finally be able to collect the pollen from this studly plant, BB1, and preserve it for use. It'll be in time to create Blueberry Jack, Poisonberry, and possibly Crackberry. Very excited to begin the next stage of things. I'll keep the pollen for the next round, and backcross exemplary female phenos to try to stabilize the genetics.
