Alright dude yep the shower nozzle is really good do t sit them in the trays and don't use the runoff you can if you readjust ph and ec but it's not worth it and yes aslong as its moist it's good .

Cheers mate. What's the best way to keep them out of the drip trays? I need them because, basically, the set up is in the bedroom :).

Awwwwww, you guys just spoil (or tease! :) lol ) Hope I can get something like that going. I'll try uploading a few pics of my grow room soon Getting a bit distracted at present with home life :(.

How can you tell the spectrum on the cfl bulb???

Alright dude cfl bulbs have a rating on them it's normally on the plastic bit but you might need to look on the packaging 2700k is red 6400k is blue
If you can't find one when you plug it in the 2700kbulbs the light has an orange glow and the 6400k has white glow they can also have names like cool white but I can't remember which is which but give me as couple of hours to get the bin lids (kids) to school and I will find out for you :thumb:

one more quick question.............................. wat does it mean when the tips of the leaves are starting to show a lil browinish??? the leave isnt discolored yet, but the very tip/ point of the leaf is a lil yellowish brownish............................i stopped watering her for a while so my coco is a little dried out, so i just watered her.......................any thoughts or suggestions???

Morning dude without a full run down and no pics I can't say for sure but the most common cause is nute burn it can also be not enough nitrogen or calcium and even a ph problem but my first piece of advice is
DON'T LET YOUR COCO DRY OUT!!!!

nice thread. ive been growing coco for 10-11 years now continuously, i also grow other methods and have grown thousands of plants.

Coco is hydro but not exactly. Its a soiless medium, and anything where the roots are in a medium arent exactly true hydro. mediums such as coco/ rockwool/perlite etc are all the same in the fact they dont have roots exposed to just the raw nutes and o2 levels of true hydro. For me hydro is DWC, aeroponics, Flood and drain using pebbles as a medium, and nft. call me picky but just thought i'd share my opinion. the diff being is that true hydro allows for so much more o2 in rootzone and easy availabilty of nutrient.

I like all growing but favour coco and dwc. 95% of my grows are done this way.

I disagree with couple points u make but its just my opinion.

2.ph 5.8 if you go even a bit over 6 you will get a calcium def a few weeks into flowering .
3.never let the coco dry water atleast once a day with 10 to 20 % runoff or you will get salt build up.

2.ph 5.8 if you go even a bit over 6 you will get a calcium def a few weeks into flowering .

- this statement isnt exactly true. ive certainly never experienced it. I think it matters the quality of nutrients used and what chelates are in them. ive given coco plants steady 6.2ph start to finish in the past and had no problems at all. Im certainly not saying that is the correct way to do it, 5.8 is spot on as its the sweet spot where the plant can get all it needs, but as i said if u have a nute which is high in chelates it can allow nute absorbtion of most elements between 5.2-6.2.

3.never let the coco dry water atleast once a day with 10 to 20 % runoff or you will get salt build up.

I actually think its a good thing to allow coco to dry out from time to time, this causes some stress for the plant and in turn creates a stronger rootzone and healthier immune system. allows more o2 in rootzone also. its a bad idea to allow plant to dry out straight from a heavy feed but i'll let it dry out after a weak feed, force the plant to starve a bit then push heavy feed. its an excellent tip to boost yield when timed correctly in flower. i'd recommend around end of week 3 and end week 5, depending on strain and where the flower development is at. Also doing it in veg makes the plant push roots out faster and u get bigger stronger roots as they have to work a bit.

I use coco in Wilma's and use recirculation, First advice to any one is don't forget to put NFT spreader matt in the bottom of the pots. this will stop coco getting into the res.. next bit of info is just from what iv learnt using the canna coco and canna coco nutrients. I have no real fluctuations in the res - ever and im feeding with 2L per day im running 2.0ec @ 5.8ph every time I check the res this figures don't change. Iv put this down to the canna range as a mate of mine uses Canadian express and had to stop the recirculation as it sent his read out mental. My grows in the sig if anyone's interested

i use canna also in coco and dwc. their base nutes are great. dont like their boost. but their bases and cannazym are fantasic. ive never had an issue using canna. i recommend them for any type of recirculating system.

BTW Fatty, are you in UK ? I'm in the freezing, hard watered (7.8ph) North East.

thats strange u have hard water mate. i get excellent tap water e/c 0.2 and ph 7. north east has one of the best if not the best tap water in country. get an air pump and put an airstone in ur res over night to bubble out the chlorine and let water reach room temperature. dont ph until u are ready to use, that will allow ur nutes to stabalise.

Hey dude, novice here but.....I'de top it and do LST as Fatty suggests. SGROG netting is cool for 4 plants NOT 1. Get it lower and bushier :) What lights are you using?

u can do an amazing scrog with 1 plant or 50 plants. its how u set it up and train the plant that matters. i scrog without using a net, so technically not a scrog. but i train the canopy so its the same as using the net.

Hi mate. Thanks for the advice. The water up here is as hard as nails :) I haven't even bothered getting ph up for my grow, just ph down lol. On another point, have you ever used Superthrive? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

u must be further south than me. i never ever use ph up, i hate it. i use water to adjust ph upwards if i need to but rarely if ever have to, only if ive accidentally put too much ph down in. Superthrive is good, but its a tool to use not a regular additive, just like peroxide is a tool. these are things i use to help if i have root issues or if plant health is suffering. i dont use superthrive any more, i foliar spray with b-52 when growing in coco. when ever u stress train, top or do any damage to plant its good idea to give b vitamins as they help rejuvinate the plant. my advice is take good care of ur rootzone from the start and the plant will reward u. if ur budget allows, use either/ or a combintion of the following: cannazym, guardian angel, roots excelurator, voodoo juice, piranha, tarantula. I would recomend using cannazym and voodoo juice but i use them all and get amazing roots.

look for any root product high in glomous, thats the real root booster. sorry thats got nowt to do with superthrive lol.

Thanks for the input cultivator you make some very good points there and as we both know there is more than one way of skinning a cat I have tried letting the coco dry but to be honest I never thought about trying a weaker feed before hand and ended up finding I got better results using airstones in my Wilma and not letting it dry I even go to 3 waterings during a 12 lights on period in weeks 3 to around 7 of flower but then I do use 50% perlite I also agree that it's possible to grow with the ph upto 6.2 I've seen people do and you yourself have done but personally I allways get problems when I go over 6 .
Once again thanks for popping in and please stick around I'm just looking into some dwc myself

if u can do dwc and do it correctly u wont be dissapointed. 17 days veg and day 29 flower.

trust me dwc is a beast. u can pull 60-80oz dry in a 2.4x1.2 tent!

Having said that i still like coco as its simple to maintain for my grafters. i mix a res they pour it in wen i tell them. but my personal grows are all dwc.

In the wilma, change coco to pebbles mate. keep ph around 5.8 and use canna aqua. u'll def increase yields over coco.

Hi guys. Thanks again for the input and good advice :). To "paint a picture".......we go through kettles like they're disposable items! Lime, lime and MORE lime. This being my first EVER grow I'm absorbing info and advice faster than a tampon in glass of water! :) lol. Yep, the "B" word......BUDGET....is VERY applicable here. I've sold my old Transit van to help fund it so it's imperative I get it right :) Without going over old ground, I'm getting 18 clones (9 x White Widow and 9 x AK47) I'm using 100ltrs of clay pebbles and 250ltrs of coco spread over 18 x 19ltr (5 gallon) pots. Canna A+B, Canna Rhizotonic, Superthrive and PK13/14. 3 (maybe 4) x 600w HPS lights, 1 x 8" Ruck fan (extract), 1 x 6" inlet fan, tent is home built 2.8m x 1.8m x 1.8m. 3 oscillating fans (2 are fan heaters). I'll be LSTing too. Watering using a plastic can with "shower" attachment. 2 x 80ltr black bins for nute res's. I've got ec/ppm truncheon, ph meter, soil ph/moisture tester and a hygrometer. So, what do you think? Anything missing? :)

:thumb::420: well your Coco mania are looking great Bad-ass I love it Oye tell me if this is Normal for the leave to get like that On my whiterhino plant
