Second Grow GDP

Hello just started my second grow first one I grew white widow & it didn’t go too well bud was below average & I screwed a lot of things up...
  1. Didn’t dry the bud good enough
  2. Didn’t feed enough.. I was watering about every day through a resovior & feeding nute once a week...
&&& so much more....

Started my second grow.. I’m doing (2) grand daddy purple & I plan to get some clones from it..
I wanted to start a journal & actually document my whole grow & interact with other growers.
Soil: Black Gold
Nutrients: Nector

Jan 21 st I planted the seeds in solo cup & one in small pot

Feb 14th Transplanted both plants into 5 gal smart pots

Feb 17th Fed jack peters

Feb 19th started nectar early veg feed

I plan to feed just every other day with nutes ... I heard from a experienced that you don’t need water to grow... they have been successful watering a small amount everyday so I am trying that method this round.

Feb 19 Day 6 Veg

I have a few questions for growers...
  1. I’m thinking about the foliar feed thing... I was going to mix with neem oil & soap & spray? Any suggestions last grow I mixed my foliar in with my nutes (one of my many new grower mistakes) I read to do it when the lights are out? How accurate is that? How often do OU foliar feed?
  2. I’ve been struggling with low humidity I have two buckets of water & a himifier in my grow area. Any suggestions?
  3. Also this grown I am turning my fans off when lights go out? & humidifier on when lights off? Any suggestions/recommendations on this?
Any tips about topping & feeding? Like should I not feed then top or top then feed? Is it bad for the plants? Or not a big deal

Sorry I have a lot of questions these are things I’m insure of feel free to pitch in any thing :)

Fox Farm soil is a good idea. It should cover you for food for a while. It depends on how fast and how much they grow. Because of this you don't need to floral feed but you still can if you want later in veg. I wouldn't get to fancy on adding stuff. Stick with basic nuits for a while. Plants don't need near the amount of stuff people add. Just let the Fox Farm do its work.

The nice thing about floral feeding is that if the plant doesn't need it it will not take it in. Unless the water drips down on your soil it is hard to over feed. It will also help with your humidity problems. With FF soil I would hold off on adding stuff for while. Continue spraying them daily with water it will help with your humidity problems.

I don't adjust humidity in my grow tents so I will let someone else help with that.

I would leave fans on with lights off and humidifier off. When your lights go out your rh will spike big time. For example my flower tent is hard to get to 45%rh lights on, but with lights off and no air movement it will jump near 70%rh.

Do you have a place for the clones? Also you can get a number of great cuttings when you lollipop the lower third of the plants around the flip to flower. I would also start looking into bubble cloning DIY's. It's an easy project and will help give you great results with your cuttings

Also don't stress about screwing things up. One of our initial grows we thought the lights were on 12/12 and let SSH go an extra month before realizing we had a button pressed making the lights 24/0...The plants nearly out grew our grow area.

It's great that you realized somethings you didn't do well and are working to improve this time around. That's what makes this fun. Correcting mistakes and slowly dialing in your cultivating know-how.

GDP is on our shortlist for future grows. Looking forward to reading up on this grow.

Welcome to 420Mag btw!!!

Cheers!

Black gold is good soil. Man, I miss working with that stuff. Can be buggy... but,, that's a staple in my old soil mixes.

Love the GDP strain! One I wish I would have run longer.

Good luck I'll watch. You've got some good advice so far im just here for the pictures ;)

Yes I am working in a basement so I have plenty of room for clones

When you say spray do you mean spray the plants with ph’d water? Or just straight out the faucet water is fine?

Day 8 veg
I see some yellowing on the leaves...

Straight water is fine. I make sure it sits over night before filling the spray bottle so any chlorine can evaporate out. I have never PHed it but I don't see anything wrong with it. I'm a little hillbilly in my grow style so others may feel differnt.

About leaf color. The new soil may be a little hot for some strains. They should get through it fine in time if that is the case. The spots may have been formed earlier and just starting to brown now. Since you have switched to the FFOF soil Don't add anything for a while give then time to adjust as they need. The soil should have everything they need for at least a month probably more. The only thing you may need to add for a while would be Cal/Mag.

Soil with niutrents is a great thing let it do its work. Water and wait is the plan for the day.

Week #2 of veg is beginning...

Watered Sunday might feed or water again today.... giving them just to enough to be dry by next feed or water

Plan to top soon then do some training..
What’s cal/mag for? When should I use it?

Like I mentioned it would be best to only water for now. FFOF has plenty of food for your plants right now. If anything it may have to much for some strains at this point.

Cal/Mag is a mix of chelated minerals plants need. Not all will need extra but for some strains it is a must. You need to always have some around for transplanting or when a plant shows deficiencies. Calcium and Magnesium deficiencies usually show up on leaves in the middle of the plant. You really need to use the damage on the leaves to tell you what they are needing. A google search for marijuana plant deficiencies then switch to images is a simple way to match up your problems.

As I mentioned not all plants are going to scream for it. So I don't normally add it tell the ask by leaf damage. When one plant shows it I will give it to all the plants of the same strain just in case.

The product I use is cheap and easy to get. I get mine at walmart. It is Lilly Miller B-1 plant starter. Easy directions for use when using soil. With soil when they need it you only need to add it once and they are good to go for a while. I normally don't use it much more than twice in any grow.

Update Day 23 veg.. I toppped a few days ago

Nectar one? never heard of it which is no big deal. I haven't heard of a lot of stuff LOL. Sounds like it is something that should be added during flower. Some sugars are supposed to add flavor. If that is what you are using then it is probably too early.

With the plants at the size they are they have not ate up all the food in Fox Farm soil. That is why you pay the big bucks for that soil. Mostly because it is simple. Water and watch for most of the grow. They will eat up all that food but it takes time. They will have a lot of size by the time that happens. In some situations they may never need more food.

I can't stress enough about watching what you add to soils. Most things are not needed while others can create problems. Not all nutrients and additives will work for all soils.

Here’s better pics of them :)

Feel free to give any feedback.. (thumbs up/down) helpful tips....

I’ve stuck to just watering as you can see one plant looks more alive than the other

They look better than they did a few days ago...
