Afghani #1 - Blue City Diesel - Sugar Plum & Blockhead

Re: Afghani #1 - Blue City Diesel - Sugar Plum & Blockhead

Taken last night. Tonight is the first time they will be under a HPS bulb so here are the last pictures taken under a normal color spectrum. Happy growing everyone.

Blue City Diesel is a fantastic indoor strain. Nothing but great things to say about this strain and plant.

The tops on the Sugar Plum are nowhere close to even but I'm not aggressively training them anymore. 16 is a waaay bigger task than the 8 I planned for. Still looks good but I am somewhat concerned about the lack of rigidity in the tops. I don't want colas falling down later in flower.

The Blockhead is looking absolutely fantastic and has recovered fully from its previous issues. Not a chance in hell it can catch up but it's chugging along nicely. Very excited to do the harvest and smoke report on this crop.

A little bud site update for whoever is following my grow. The Sugar Plum is taking its sweet time but looks good so far. In order of appearance BCD, Afghani, Blockhead, Sugar Plum:

This camera sometimes corrects the color and the difference is pretty striking

Here's the canopy overall, along with a height update. Obviously the Blockhead needs a booster seat so here's my temporary solution:

As always, any feedback is much appreciated.

I am embarrassed to post this but... I just realized my tent is a 3x3, not a 2x2. Gahhh I'm an idiot.

Next update Monday.

Re: Afghani #1 - Blue City Diesel - Sugar Plum & Blockhead

Welp, here is an update on my lie of a grow. Hope you all had a great weekend! This is day 21 of flower (from when they switched to 12/12).

Brought the girls out of the tent for a photo shoot in normal spectrum lighting. They've developed a ton in the few days that I've been away and it was a surprise coming home to the change. The Blockhead and Afghani have a respectable trichome dusting at this stage, and the Sugar Plum has taken its inevitable place atop the height leader board and is at 33inches. Temp is about 85 at the canopy, intake air is at 40% humidity and the HPS bulb is about 14inches from the top of the canopy.

Now that I've realized that I was living a lie with my wattage per square foot calculations, I am slowly removing a chunk of the foliage in the lower canopy of each plant. It looks like a 600w is in my future but I'm going to finish this crop with the current 400w, which means my 9sqft tent is at ~44.5w per square foot for this grow. That isn't terrible but isn't quite at the 50w/sqft "standard" discussed ad nauseum on the forums. I would prefer to sacrifice popcorn sites in the hope that the plants will focus on the prime grade buds. Can anyone speak to the penetration distance they've experienced?

BCD is a work of symmetry and I absolutely love it.

Plenty of room if the plants decide to stretch.

I did some strategic defoliating of the interiors of the Afghani and Blue City Diesel to help light reach some of the lower bud sites. I've also thinned out the Sugar Plum canopy and clipped off bud sites on all 4 plants that looked like they would end up finishing as fluffy popcorn.

Pretty amazing how much more quickly the colas are developing on the indica strains. It will be good motivation to not harvest the SP too early since I'll have plenty of weed while it's still finishing.

I'm currently sitting back and enjoying the stay+lit vape I bought tonight. It looks like the company may have gone out of business but it seems like a decent product. I got a cartridge of Purple Trainwreck oil and it tastes unbelievable. Cheers.

:thumb: LOOOking good man ! :bravo:
I keep seeing posts of everyone going into flowering and the wait is getting really hard for me each day that passes.
I know the wait is worth it, I'll be patient ...:lot-o-toke::nomo:
cheers man !

+ reps for beautiful plants

Hey everyone and welcome to day 28 of flower. The camera on my current backup cell looks a little different than the last one. Hope you're all doing well.

Thanks a lot man. I'm not sure what to think at this point! The trichome development is phenomenal on the Afghani but I can't see where the volume will come from. We're in the middle of a heatwave so keeping temps down is a challenge. I pulled 7oz dry off two pissed off plants last time under the same light in a closet. One of those was a Sugar Plum so I know the strain is capable of solid yields. We shall see

Here's a peek at the development.

Blue City Diesel is probably my favorite looking plant of all time. It's an almost perfect hexagon! Calyx production is going nuts right now and it smells SUPER berry-like. It's in the back left of the picture and I am curious how the colas will look at harvest time.

Afghani has the most widespread trichomes of any plant I've ever grown. Most of the upper fan leaves have trichomes covering their stem and leaf surface already. It has a very earthy base aroma with a deep skunk and other unidentifiable smells. Despite the weirdness it smells very good.

Sugar Plum has grown another inch in the past few days (35") and has required that the other plants be elevated to keep a uniform canopy. The colas are developing nicely and trichome development is solid... but the plant smells like shit guys! It's like the sugar plum I know and love was mixed with a weird iron like smell. It's almost like blood, not sure how else to describe it.

Blockhead smells very citrusy and piney with some fruity undertones. It's my favorite of the plants in that department and I'm glad I didn't give up on it when it struggled early on. The fan leaves nearly yellowed in the past few days and I missed it because of the HPS light spectrum. I think it is a nitrogen deficiency since it's not even halfway through flower yet. I will update later.

Let me know if you have specific picture requests. Cheers
