GERMINATION

read lots about germing in coco and got a bit worried since lots of peeps recommended against it. Went ahead and did it anyway and it seemed to work. Here's what I did;

put 2 of my 5 precious feminized beans into a cup of room temp water @ Ph6. Covered and left overnight on top of my fridge. Got up in the morning to find one had cracked. No signs of life from the other one. Filled up 2 small pots with 100% coco coir, made a little hole (about fingernail deep) and popped them in carefully with tweezers. Covered hole with coco gave a good watering till runoff with plain ph'd water (ph6) from my tap (which has a EC of 0.2) Put some clingfilm (foodwrap) over the top. Took the wrap off as soon as I saw first signs of a shoot.
After 48 hours they look like this!

Seedling_Day_2.jpg

As you can see I've got the 600w lamp on about 1.5m up above the seedlings mainly to keep the heat at a warm 22 degrees C. (don't have any heating in my grow area).

Thats all for now, I'll post more when I see some growing action!

Re: Coco/AK48/SCROG

way to go man. very clean and well organized. I wish you luck! ask all the questions you can, there are similar grows like this on here with great records of success.

Re: Coco/AK48/SCROG

Excellent dude, good start. You must be chuffed to be back in business. Hopefully you'll pick up some top tips here and be reaping the rewards soon. Good looking set-up, simple clean and organised. This is similar to the set-up i would like so i'll be keeping an eye on how it goes. What made you go with the coco in the end?

Re: Coco/AK48/SCROG

Hey whassup Kailpot. I am a new member as well and I just started a grow. (see the link in my sig). My grow is similar to yours. I am running 50/50 coco/perlite with a layer of river rock on the bottom and a layer of hydroton on top. I started with clones ak47 at about 4 inches tall. I love the look of your little babies popping up. One still has her helmet on how cute LOL! Anyways man, good luck with your grow the setup looks sweet. Ima be watching this grow. Oh yea, that tent kicks arse and I want/need one badly for my grow. Definitely have to have one by the time I switch to 12/12. I need $200 bucks first I guess Heheh.

Hey phatelephant good to have you along for the ride  Went with the coco after seeing some great coco grows here on 420. Munki's grow here was a big inspiration...he got 5oz per plant on his first grow, if I get half that I'd be well chuffed!

Munki's Ebb n Flow 3 x 3 SCROG 400W HPS Grow

Fast as, healthy plants and high yields.

Clarkkent; cheers for the comments...worth doing it properly, since its risky and cost some hard earned cash eh!

Grooster; Nice set up mate...love the slender pointy leaves...I take it thats the Sativa in her? Good luck with yours too...I'll be watchin! Not sure about the tent. I've had to put up mylar around it since it leaks light badly. So I've got a tent within a tent....probably could have done without it!

Re: Coco/AK48/SCROG

Oops, sorry phatelephant, Munki's link was to highlight benefits of my planned SCROG.
Went with coco after reading lots of good stuff about it on this forum. I liked the fact I could handwater it..feels like I'm tending my girls more! Also the fact that it responds quickly to any feeds you give it...if I get it a bit wrong I can just flush it out with plain water and all will be good.

Re: Coco/AK48/SCROG

Hey kailpot, will be checking in on your journal. Keep it nice and updated for my procastination delight. May your green darlings prosper. good luck!

Re: Coco/AK48/SCROG

Day 6 Veg

Feed; 1ml/lt each Canna Coco A+B
1ml/lt Nitrozyme
EC 0.9

Fed twice with this mix, leaving till the coco got quite dry in between feeds. Fed till runoff about 10%. Noticed most people use Rhizotonic with the canna coco nutes. I forgot to get this so went straight to A + B instead. Might have gotten off to a faster start if I had used it? Anyway almost a week since planting the seed and it already feels like ages ;)

cheers for checkin' in redsnapper :peace:

DAY 9 VEG

Woke up my ladies and found this leaf burn on the tip of the smaller one (wee aggie!) Think it may be some nute burn, even though I've only fed them twice last week at the dose above (EC 0.9). I then flushed them with plain Ph'd water and measured the runoff. It measured PH 4.2 which seems quite acidic. Should be ok now since I flushed well. Here's a pic if anyone knows anything I don't (and I don't know much! :)

Otherwise growing well!?

Re: Coco/AK48/SCROG

Hey there Kailpot...I love the pics they are well done. The babies are so cute, I love watching them from the beginning. I don't have the experience to offer you any advice on the nute burn or selections you are using but I did want to stop in and say hi. I am sure someone will know whats up.

Day 19 Veg (From Fem Seed)

Feed; 1ml/lt each Canna Coco A+B
EC 0.9
Foliar feed Nitrozyme 3ml/Lt once a week before lights out

Happy Holidayz y'all! :roorrip:

Hey Grooster....didn't want to bore people with too many veg shots - cheers for the encouragement!

The little ladies are looking good, they're starting to take off to. Gonna up the nutes this week to EC1.0 - EC1.2. Should I be thinking about adding Canazyme which I have? Have been going light on the nutes since I got a touch of burn.
One set of leaves did get a wee bit funky (crinkly?) but the newer ones seem fine. Planning to transplant these into 12litre pots. Maybe should think about doing it soon? Heres some pics!

Re: Coco/AK48/SCROG

WOOT! Nice growth there Kailpot! I see some five-finger leaves coming out now. Very cool, I don't currently foliar (sp) feed nor spray water. I wonder if that is something I should consider. I want to keep it simple but I also want a great yield. Well, keep up the good work was glad to see your update. Happy Holidays and all that.

Day 20 Veg

Cheers Settingsun decided to take your advice...right on the button!
Thanks for checking out me grow and saying hello fastfor20 and Stakkur...good to have you along!

Transplanted into 12litre pots, these will be final pots! :slide:
Roots looked healthy and white. Interestingly (...or not!) The small bushy one had a denser root structure. I watered them in lightly, mainly because I underestimated the amount of liquid required to water these big pots to run-off. I also read some debating whether it was better to water lightly anyway when transplanting, cause it makes the roots seek out food....anyway this was decided for me! They looked a wee bit droopy after transplant and they went straight for a sleep, so hoping they pick up after a few hours in the dark. Heres some rootporn! Do you think the top pic would be classed as rootbound?

Re: Coco/AK48/SCROG

Very nice root pr0n!! They are nice and white, and very full. I have little to no experience with grows but I would say those were definitely close to root-bound if not already there. Did you notice growth slow-down? Either way, they should do very well in the newer bigger pots. Keep it up Kailpot yer looking good brother. Stay Green.
