HPS Bulb or ballast fault

Hey anyone with the knowledge of hps bulbs out there please help!

I just bought a little 70 watt hps and ballast set up off ebay 2nd hand. Just as an added bonus to my CFL lit grow area. My Problem is the bulb just flickers ever so briefly but does'nt ignite. I've checked all conections and the ballast hums nicely, the current is obviously getting to the bulb or it wouldnt flicker right? I cant see any damage to bulb and have looked up stuff on net but never had a HPS or ballast before.

Do i just need a knew bulb?

Should I get a circuit tester?

or is it likely to be the ignitor?

Where the bulb screws into the bayonet fitting you will find a little metal tag which may need pulling out gentley to make a better contact with end of bulb.

Thanks but tried that one even tried doing the same with the side conector. So god knows whats up, might just buy another bulb and see

I'm sorry to hear you are still suffering problems with the ballest & bulb.


I do believe ebay has a policy regarding selling of faulty equipment which can be sent back to the seller... if you have problems with returning the goods you can have ebay sort the mess out for you & refund your money etc
