My First Grow: Georgia Pie

@InTheShed thank you for always being so informative, I can’t wait to look at the the thread when I get back home.
I will also take a big fan leaf in hopes that the others underneath grow a bit more before the flip. If I understand you correctly it means it will not hurt the plant and is okay to do?

The RH in the tent is typically very low naturally which is why I had to get the humidifier and run it daily to bring it up but we’ve been getting random winter rain which seems to bring it up a bit that I will have to watch out for during that time.

Hi CH I think they are looking great. If anyone knows about defoliating, it's Shed!
You both are always so helpful💕, I just don’t want to go pruning crazy and stress them out. Once I get to snipping it’s hard to stop😂, but I will restrain my vegetable gardening instincts.

Yes, the plant will be fine. I (and many others) actually lollipop the plant a week or so before flipping, where the entire bottom third is stripped of foliage. Here's a pic of one before and after:

So your plant won't notice a fan here or there.

Good Afternoon😊

Day 50 - Tuesday
This day I gave all the girls a bit of a trim and got rid of some of their big fan leaves. This tent cam picture was taken before the trim.
In this picture you will see GP3 to the left, GP2 to the right, and GP1 “behind”.
About an hour after this picture was taken I watered the girls and trimmed the fan leaves. I did not take pictures on this day as I did not get home till after lights off. My good friend had a procedure yesterday and I accompanied her and stayed once she was admitted. She is recovering well and the procedure went great😊

Day 51- Wednesday (01/11/23)
This morning I noticed the girls were a bit droopy, probably because they were watered very early in the day yesterday. This morning around 6am, they received water and I turned the RH up to 80.

GP3 is to the left, with GP2 to the right, and GP1 is behind. All of the girls look a bit different post their trim as you will see in the following pictures.

GP1- The majority of her giant fan leaves are gone🫣🤭 I honestly tried to restrain myself but I’m glad her energy can go towards her smaller leaves now.

GP2- She still has quite a few of her fan leaves but the ones that I left were not blocking light from the smaller leaves.

GP3- Even the smallest girl got a trim.

Here is a picture of them all together, before lights out I will rotate the pots and switch GP1 and GP2’s position, as well as perform a bit of LST on all the girls.

The first picture of the day 51 is incorrect. I will edit it once I am on PC this is the correct picture

Plants are looking really happy, and I'm glad all went well with your friend's procedure. Good on ya for being there for her!

Can you tell if the FIM worked yet? Hard to tell from the pics.
Thank you so much, I am happy everything with smoothly😊

I do not believe the fimming worked, if there are suppose to be 4 new sites and believe I might have just topped them on the second go. I will upload closer pictures of each girls fimming site before lights out today😁

Day 51 (continued) - Wednesday

“Fimming” sites of the girls

GP1- I’m pretty sure I took too much off in the second go, so maybe I topped them?

They look topped to me, and in a good way! You left what we call the "double H stump" described here:
If it’s okay, I’d add some info I recently learned and found helpful for down the road. When doing the topping, leave a small amount of stem above the nodes, creating a bit of a “stump”. It will help to not accidentally damage those new leaves at the node being left behind. The main reason I personally like this idea is because growers will later begin training those arms and can accidentally split the base. Leaving the ‘stump’ behind helps give more support to prevent those arms from splitting. I don’t know if thats useful for your purposes or not, I just wish I had known that a little earlier myself.

The first time I tried to fim was a bit of a disaster.
One of them pretty much ignored it and sent a single main stem up from the node, and the other one looked like I had taken a weed whacker to it and the stuff on that node never grew any more. I ended up topping it a week later at the next node down, lol!
You've done better than I did!

I looked at the thread you told me about the other day as well, I’m happy to know what I accidentally did has a name and doesn’t seem to have had any negative impact on the plants😂. On my next run I will start much earlier. I think I will give the super cropping, lolipopping a try as well. I will also buy more than three seeds 😂. I originally had 10 mango seeds but those were accidentally disposed of🤦🏾‍♀️.. and this is why the fiancé is not allowed near the plants😂😂

Mel Hi👋🏾👋🏾, it sounds like you had some defiant girls. I don’t know what I would have done if they just ignored the fimming honestly. I thought the original fim meant I didn’t go down far enough so this time I went very low😂. I guess too low.
I tried to an had to top too.. 😂 but your girls look great , and I think it takes a little bit before you know for sure.. 👍👍💚💚
Thanks so much SJB, i’m starting to wonder if it’s an urban myth😂, I will try again on the next run. I love how bushy your girls are so the topping looks great on them.💕

Day 52 - Thursday (01/12/23)

Good Morning Everyone🤗,
I was busy in the tent this morning so more than likely I will add another update before lights off. I realized last night that my original flip day of 1/25 would go past the 60 day veg date I set. I really didn’t want to do that so the new flip date will be at the 60 day mark of 01/20). This the girls got what is hopefully their final transplant (except GP3… she may have one more to go)

GP3 - She went from her 1 gallon pot to a 2.5 gallon pot. She received 75% fox farm ocean soil, 25% worm castings and was very lightly top dressed with gaia green 2-8-4 bloom, then she was watered.

GP2- She went from her 2.5 gallon pot to her 4 gallon pot. She received 75% fox farms ocean soil, 25% worm castings, 3tbs of gaia greens 2-8-4 and 1tbs of gaia greens 444 mixed into her soil. (This is less than both containers recommend) She was then watered. She still has those brown spots on her roots.. but there was no smell nor was anything slimy🤨🤨 i’m still keeping an eye out.

Plants look really good and the root balls were definitely ready for new homes!
this is why the fiancé is not allowed near the plants
 Good idea to see if he's trainable before the wedding.
I realized last night that my original flip day of 1/25 would go past the 60 day veg date I set.
Is there a reason you're going by days rather than plant size? Is there a date certain you need these done by?
She still has those brown spots on her roots.. but there was no smell nor was anything slimy🤨🤨 i’m still keeping an eye out.
Those brown areas across the bottom could be from a low spot in the pot where the water doesn't drain as quickly.

Thank you; i didn’t expect them to be ready so quickly, I feel like I just transplanted them.
😂😂 He is eager to help though so I am grateful.
Honestly there isn’t a particular reason, i just had it in my head that I would veg for 2 months roughly. I don’t have a time limit to finish or a certain size or height in mind🤔 do you think I should flip them sooner or later?
I hope that is all it is, I thought it might have been the start of root rot.
I think you're girls are gorgeous, healthy root system.. 👍👍💚💚 great job...
Thanks SJB i’m trying and i’ve learned a lot, but I know there is still more to come🌸🌸
Looking amazing in here!

You did an awesome job on the trim they look like completely different plants afterwards!

Can’t wait to see them flower!
Thank you lootz, I managed to not prune them to death 😂😂🤣, I am excited /nervous for flower as well. 🤗
