Icemud Holy Grail OG - Kali Kandi - SoCalDam OG - XJ-13 - Organic - Soil - Smartpots

Hey everyone, glad to be back with round 2 of my medical organic home grow.

My 1st attempt went very well, exceeding my expectation both by quality and quantity...but I learned a ton and will continue to learn and grow...lol...

I encourage everyone to follow along with this one because I think its going to be exciting....

Here are the details...

2x Holy Grail OG.... can't find details on the genetics but grows like a bubba, very short and bushy so this will be perfect for the middle of my scrog...

2x Socaldam OG... I tried this strain dried when I received my 1st round of clones and holy shizzz, it kicked my ass and tasted unbelievable...I knew from that point on that I would be doing this one next. Supposedly the closest you can get to the original OG kush genetics, without the original cutting...grows very lanky and tall just like my University Hill's OG I just finished, so this will be on 1 side of the tent..

1x XJ-13... this is a cross of Jack Herrer and g13...supposed to be a very uplifting high, piney taste and smooth smoke... this one grow large..very large so I am hoping that during the stretch I wont have to cut the roof out my tent...lol...

1x Kali Kandi (OG x Chocolope (canolope haze x chocolate thai)) This one just sounds delicous...saw a video of the same genetic line and this one grows very large nugs, very low leaf to bud ratio and just overall sounds damn good...I tasted chocolope once and loved it, so I hope this has many of the flavor charactoristics...

Equipment used...

2.5'x5'x7' hydrohut grow tent..
400w Ushio MH conversion bulb ballast and cool tube
600w Ushio HPS with lumatek digital dial a watt ballast, sunsystem air cooled hood.

crushed up 2 mosquito dunks and mixed into soil (preventive for pesties) harmless to plants and people (bti bacteria)

I am still in the process of getting a new computer built so as soon as its up and running I will post a detailed photo log of everything....

I can't wait to get started...any help or suggestions will be appreciated :)

Hey everyone...so happy that you are along for what hopefully will be an excellent grow number 2!!!! I very much appreciate the help, respect and encouragement....

my apologies to all of you that I have not been posting much, my computer is still down and still using this discouraging 2000 era laptop....but the good news is I am already in the process of building a new one...

so yea all the bells and whistles...so hopefully within the week I will be again a active member and commenting away... :)

so...another BIG BIG headline today....I HAD BABIES>...lol...

Today is officially Day one of my 2nd Organic Medical Grow.....

I received the clones today from Socaldam Genetics...located somewhere in Orange County... I went with them last time and really was impressed with my results, so decided to try some new strains, some exclusives and some favorites...

I have already had my soil potted and mixed for about a week now, so today was planting day...

Each of the clones looked very healthy and well rooted except for my one SocalDam OG which was a little saggy compared to the others, it also had very few roots poking out of the rockwool cube so I knew it just was not as far along as the others and I have good faith that she will come along within a day or 2..just to make sure I took a gallon size, ziplock freezer back and placed it upsidedown over her, to make a humidity dome to help her spring back to life...

Planted each clone into the soil and pressed the top of the soil down gently but firmly to make sure that they were in good...as far as the following photos they will be in this order....(looking at the photos)

Left side..(SocalDam OG (og 101)), Middle (Holy Grail OG's), right front (kali kandi) and back right (XJ-13)

I chose these positions because the Holy Grail OG is an OG, but grows like a bubba kush, short and bushy, which will be perfect for the middle of my v-scrog setup.. The OG 101 is supposed to grow like my previous University Hill's OG on my last grow, tall and spaced out, long internode lengths...so I put this in the same position as my UVHOG's since they grew well there. The right side is my experimental side and has the most vertical room. The XJ13 mother I saw in a video on youtube and is massive...so she goes in the back... I am not too sure how the kali kandy will grow, but was told it will grow like most og's, tall and lanky, so she should be perfect on the front right..

Lighting as for now is 24/0 for the 1st week...only running the 400w MH Ushio at this time which has a very very high blue end of the spectrum, compared to many other bulbs I reviewed... I am running the light at about 3 foot above the clones today and most likely tomorrow, until they become adjusted to the transplant as well as the more intense HID lighting...

Watering today with the transplant was a premixed 2.5 gallon batch of distilled water, bubbled for about 2 hours with 10ml of GO Bio Root (1-1-1), 5ml of GO Bioweed (.2-0-.3), 20 ml of europonic humic acid, 2 drops of superthrive, and about a tsp of the myco powder. Each plant was slowly given the watering starting from the plant base and circling outward, making sure to soak the entire pot... already I can tell these smartpots will require a more timely and careful watering because they do leak out very easily if water pools on top of the soil...

Temps in my tent with light on are around 77F and humidity with evaporative cooler in tent is staying around 63% which is good for newly transplanted clones...the roots have not yet developed enough to support the plant's leaves fully so typically raising the humidity will encourage the plant to not work so hard to keep up with transpiration...

For the first week or 2 I will be sticking very light with nutrients and focusing mostly on letting the soil become fairly dry before watering, to ensure the roots stress and stretch in search of water, hopefully creating a better root structure for supporting fine nuggets...

Also added to my soil mixture before next feeding will be humboldt myco madness.... one of my very generous grower buddies had a few extra 5lb buckets available and decided to give me one to help me with this grow....what a great friend!!!!! This is supposed to have many of the benificial myco strains and bacterias to support a healthy root structure and soil environment so i am excited!!!

Now...on to the photos....

Hey Crower....your next grow is looking good already!!! nice!! Yeah Ill be Scroggin again with this one...took the screen out for now so its easier to work the ladies, with LST until they get to the desired height to start scrog training... I still can't believe I harvested over a pound off the last one, off of just 6 plants so I definitely will be going for the scrog again this round...

I cant wait to see these ladies in action....especially the Kali kandi.... im excited!!!

Re: Icemud Holy Grail OG, Kali Kandi, Socaldam OG, XJ-13, organic, soil, smartpots

Did you provide the herb to the dispensary? Over a pound for 6 scrog plants in a tent this size is amazing! Keep running it looks like you got it dialed in. I see you're using EJ again, great stuff.

Thanks 12-12, I didn't provide it to a dispensary because I didn't get enough of each plant to really part with in the amounts they typiccally go for, and also because it was pulled in sections, so a large amount wasn't ready all at once...had 3 different pullings of the University Hill's OG, 2 pullings of the blue dragon and 2 pullings of the chemband... What was very interesting was seeing the results of pulling earlier vs later, and pulling with more of flushing time vs less..... big differences...so mostly just enjoying my fruits of labor with friends (medical of course) :)

Would love to hear some comparisons; early pull vs later and more flush time vs less. Which of the combination are you apply to this grow? If you have a jar of each strain left cure it for a few months and see the results then, it should be dispensary quality giving that much time in curing.

Re: Icemud Holy Grail OG, Kali Kandi, Socaldam OG, XJ-13, organic, soil, smartpots

great follow up question...after i posted I re-read it and though that I should have included the details....guess it was the meds...lol

so this is what I found out....

on my blue dragon, my cola's were pulled with about 1/3 amber trichomes, maybe even less....which gave a very very energising high, very clear, very uplifting and social.....

I pulled the rest of the blue dragon i think it was about a week to a week and a half later...(all of the undernugs and secondary buds that were shaded and not fully developed) at this time the nugs had about a 50%amber trichome ratio when harvested..... the difference is the high is definitly less motivating, about the same feeling but less energising...about the same taste though and smoke was very smooth on both pullings...but the biggest difference with the 30% vs the 50% amber trichomes was definitly much more clear vs couchlock.

With my University Hill's OG's I pulled the cola's about a week and a half before the secondary buds....and left one plant of secondary buds in 48hrs of darkness before i pulled her...so 3 total harvests off 2 plants...after the cola's were pulled, I gave her one more flushing of distilled water and waited till the soil was dry and the buds showed a 30%-40% amber and pulled 1 of the remaining 2 plants (just the small underbuds left on each plant). The other plant I left in 48hrs of darkness before pulling her....
the differences..:

cola harvest 1st.... since these only recieved a 1 week flush before harvest, the tasted of the last hit before ash tastes and smelles a little funky...not horrible and does not crackle at all...but not as pure as it could have been if I would have flushed earlier by a week..

1st plant, secondary buds, no dark period- this one tastes way better throughout the entire smoke...all the way to the ash you taste kush, no crackling, no weird taste or smell... definitely better than the 1st pulling, even at 1 week less of cure time...(currently at 4 weeks)

2nd plant, secondary buds, 48hrs of dark... overall this batch tastes the best out of the 3 pullings of the University Hill's OG, even with a week and a few days less of curing than the 1st batch.... it is the most potent, tastes the best and has the strongest aroma out of all 3 batches...must have been that extra flush and the dark period before harvest...

Now this was not done in a scientific mannor by any means, but there definitely was a noticable difference between the different harvest times and flushes, however it could have much as well been any of the variables including me thinking (by Placebo effect) that one is better....

I would love to hear from more people who have tried similar experiments

on this next grow I will not really be able to give a 24-48hr dark period for most of the strains because I have 4 total strains and they all chime in around 8-10 weeks of flowering time...so only the last standing will be able to get the dark period....however, all of them this round are going to get at least 2 weeks of flushing...or really i should say watering with no nutrients...( i didn't flush the first time which means running a 4:1 ratio of water to amount of soil :) it definitely made a difference in lasting taste...:)

Honestly these meds not only compare to but destroy most of the local's top shelf buds...ive had many friends testify to that....saying that its better than anything they've had all year....which to me was flattering as hell... :)

they may not be as pretty looking as some early pulled, hydro-salt fed, dispensaary nugs, but they high lasts way longer, very smooth hits when smoked, longer lasting flavor, and you don't get used to or "adapt" to the buds (must be the organics) .

its so disappointing going to a dispensary now and picking out the most frosty smelly dank looking bud, only to smoke your entire sack in 1 day and barely scratch the bottom of the clouds...anyone seem to experience this rushed product at dispensarys?

great question though...hope i answered it alright for ya...

Re: Icemud Holy Grail OG, Kali Kandi, Socaldam OG, XJ-13, organic, soil, smartpots

Well today would be day 3 of my 2nd grow.... All of my clones are really starting to look very healthy and comfortable in there new home, except my OG101's. The front one that started off really droopy is starting to regain strengh and stand up more, but still has a bit of wilt to it.... the one in the back is really wilty and I have been watching both extremely close to see what happens...

I covered them with a 1 gallon ziplock bag to create a humidity dome for the 2 ladies, increased humidity will help reduce water loss from leave and allow the roots time to catch up and grow, to supply the transpiration in the leafs. I also cut the fans in half which limits the amount of water evaporation and allows the roots to not struggle so hard in producing for the plant...Hopefully all of this helps my babies recover, I have faith because cannabis is such a hearty plant, but it will be a few more days to be sure...

Anyone have suggestions on a good/easy way to LST with smartpots??? since there not plastic they cant be drilled into...so i was thinking about tape and string around it...any other suggestions???

I have also been giving daily the girls a small drink...applied directly to the base of the stem, where the rockwool cube is....this mix is just humic acid, distilled water, earthjuice micro, and earthjuice catalyst...very low ppm...

My current temps with my 400w mh running (24/0) is at 77degrees and 58% rh with my evaporative humidifier in tent...

Hope the OG101's pull thru....there supposed to be a superior og...

Re: Icemud Holy Grail OG, Kali Kandi, Socaldam OG, XJ-13, organic, soil, smartpots

Thanks for the detailed comparison of your previous grow. The combination of flushing and 24hr darkness before chop (harvest while the lights are off) and good curing will provide best flavor and smooth smoke. Also, using organic helps with the flavor and smoothness since organic substance break down much faster than chemical based and require less curing time.

For LST with smartpots you can try clipping some binder clips around the rim and flip up the clip's handle and you got yourself some anchoring points. Works with any container that offer some spacing on the rim for clippings. You can also use super cropping method for LST too.

Great Idea Twelve!! Thanks bro!!! I love how us cannabis growers/users have such practical solutions for almost everything :)

I supercropped my last grow in flower, I believe it was around day 30 or 40 and it made a huge difference in nug size and density over the non supercropped branches... a lil hint given to me by one of my norcal growerbuddies...!!

I think I am going to stick with LST to prepare for scrogging and see how these ladies form...depending on how they grow...speccificly the XJ-13 I may hhave to top and supercrop because I saw a video of the mother and she's a beast!! definitly visions of a beanstalk growing from this one...funny wasnt it jack that had the seeds for the beanstalk?? (jack herrer x g13) lol

Thanks for your ongoing support 12/12!!! really appreciate ya!!

Re: Icemud Holy Grail OG, Kali Kandi, Socaldam OG, XJ-13, organic, soil, smartpots

No worries ice ladies are looking good isn't funny every grow I had there is always a straggler or runt hope she pulls through for you

LOL...me and you are infamous for the runts in our grows...whats funny was my runts last time turned out to be the heaviest yeild and the dankest of all... I hope my lil runts do the same this time...its OG101 from cali connection strain so I have very good faith in the quality, if the ladies make it there...

power to the runts!!!!! lmao!
