DutchDude's First Grow - 05/2011 - Jiffy - Hempy - SCROG - 250W MH - 4 Strains

Hey man been following your grow for a while just haven't posted but it looks great! I'm on my first grow too about 15 days behind you in flower but I noticed you were looking for a strain with one main cola. I recently acquired some seeds from a friend called Chronic from Serious Seeds. After a bit of research I found they are considered the 'commercial' strain but they have a good yield and grow one main cola. So I'm not sure about the quality but hey free seeds are free seeds. Anyway good luck :)

It looks amazing! Well done!

Thanks Doc, coming from you, that means a lot!

Hey there Fibbity - thanks for your comment. That Chronic looks amazing, but is mostly indica. I should have said that I wanted either a 50/50 of leaning to the sativa. That chronic sure looks fun to grow though!

fib's right about the chronic, very good high quality, commercial product. good bag appeal, easy to grow. most of those sativa's can get quite unrully, especially w/vertical limitations. i'd look for strains that say "good for sog" & grow 12/12 from seed. check docbud's grows. they're a good indication of what to expect. he's grown some really nice single cola plants.

Are you saying to just harvest early to avoid major couchlock? I am already subbed to Doc's thread. He does amazing work :)

Why do you put the day 64 and the veg day 30 is shorter? They are in veg from day 1. You are doing a fine job and the plants are looking good.

that should work. just harvest at early cloudy. try that bud & see if u like the strength. if so harvest all of it.

there's lots of strains out there. just find one that says "good for sog".
Thanks Paw-Paw, I will have to do some searching around for that perfect one.

RGF2011 - Thanks for the compliment.

Day 94 / Veg 30 / Flower 42

94 total days since the seeds went into the glass of water.
30 of vegging, counted from when they had 4 nodes and went into the big containers
42 of flower, counted from the 12/12 light flip.

I don't know - made sense for me at the time, and I just stuck with it.

Dutch, Awesome bud porn! Everything looks fantastic.

I have three Ice going in a cabinet grow under LED's. All three have been on 12/12 since germination. They are at roughly 80 days now, each of them has a fat single cola. Ice is a Sativa/Indica mix. Check it out online, I highly recommend it for single colas.

Hey guys - I know it is summer - but I am really kinda disappointed that I am not getting any responses to my questions, even going back a few pages. . .

Is my journal just too boring to deal with?

Sorry Dutch I have been crazy busy and although I may not be much help to your questions as I am a newb grower myself I'm with you in spirit. In my opinion I think your girls look great, I too noticed that when i flipped into 12/12 that my girls were not drinking as much but then after day 40 or so they started to drink almost double.

:goodjob:
:goodluck:

Thanks guys - I appreciate the input. I have never seen trichomes in person, so I really do not know if these are considered cloudy, or clear.

The reason why I am looking at the Grapefruit Kush is that it is supposed to be a 50 day flower for the GK, and 70 days or so for both the JH and EJ.

But, you are right - I should compare it to the other two, whom should be completely clear at this point.

Semi related question: What is the easiest way to get the sticky off your fingers? Warm water and soap sure don't clean it up easily. . .

70% or 91% alcohol from like target or walmart for a buck or two!

That is a great suggestion! Affordable seeds as well. Do you have a journal, or pictures?

Thanks! Nothing compared to your grow, but I'll take it :)

So, the last 3 weeks or so they drank about a watering can full per day. But, the last 4 days or so, there is water left in the bottom, and I only give them half a can. The other thing that kinda concerns me is that the growth of the buds seem to have stagnated for the last 10 days or so. Related? Done early? Locked out? (ph checked out, and flushed already)

70% or 91% alcohol from like target or walmart for a buck or two!

I just tried it with some 70% and it works like a charm. Thanks!

No, I'm not comfortable with creating a journal. I have to keep what I am doing stealthy. Too much to lose and all that. I'm on the road for my job now, I'll take some pics and see if I can't post them in your journal, if you don't mind. It will likely be this weekend before I can do so, though.

Keep up the good work!:thumb:

Use isopropyl alcohol to remove the sticky. Also, I harvest when I see 30 to 50% amber on the trichomes.

Alright guys - time to do some problem solving. . .

The pH is 5.9 and the ppm is 475. Just put in new water/nutes 2 days ago.

The "problem" is that I am getting "strange" leaves. No idea why they don't look "normal" and one of them is even kinda curled. They are growing like gang busters right now, just looking strange.

Please help me out and let me know what is going on?

Hey Dutch,
It sure looks like you've got it dialed in. I am a newbie grower and have not seen this type of thing before. Perhaps it is just an anomaly. Some of the more experienced growers should be able to give a better idea of what's happening. On a positive note, the plants do look very healthy. Hang in there Dutch.

Dutch I actually had this scenario play out with someone about a month or two ago. EXCEPT he was in soil, now that makes a difference because he seemed to fix the problem with transplanting. And hey he was in flowering too when it happened (just guessing but believe those clones were cut during flowering?)
Anyways, not necessarily a solution to the problem but hey maybe it'll help you narrow the problem down more. BEST WISHES on finishing those girls up :peace:

Alright - so maybe it is a by-product of cutting while in flowering? Now the question is, will it go away? Does it need to go away? Will it flower again eventually? And. . . probably should wait to flower them until they behave?

Day 109 / Veg 30 / Flower 57 Some new pictures! I don't know if there is a whole lot of change, but at I will let you guys make that determination.

I think. . . that they have gotten a bit fatter, but it is hard to judge. I have made the decision to harvest on Friday though! Started flushing last Thursday, and I will turn the lights off permanently on Wednesday night.

Any last minute advise?
