Equanimity's First Grow - Lemon Kush - Canna Coco - CFL

they appear to be doing well. i gave them each 120mls of pH'd water just to top them up a little since they've been without for a week. they're in their dark period now so I'm not able to check on them until 6pm now.

when i flip them i plan to do their 12 hours of darkness between 8am and 8pm, which should help with my temps a little.

On veg cycle you don't need to worry about their dark period as much if at all. If I need to do something in my veg box I just flick the lights on early that day. Flowering is another story. My timer is set to come on at 6 am and go off at midnight. And my box is far from light proof. Been doing it like this for almost a year. Haven't had a Hermie yet from it.

And after re reading what you said .... I realize you turn them off for temperature reasons.

Cheers

As long as you didnt give them an extended period of darkness to change your schedule. In your situation i would have let them come on at 0600 and then let them run until the next day for your 1200 off time. That way the light was on longer than nomal rather than dark longer. Well atleast with your new schedule the lights will be on at night making it easier to regulate temperature. I would have done that schedule if i didnt sleep in the same room. I have a small leak where light escapes and then the fans arent very quiet. Are they all doing good?

my second grow (the auto speed bud) is in a wardrobe facing my bed, the light pours out through the crack. it can be annoying if i move my head into the bright beam lol won't be long before i start having "walk into the light" dreams

Day 17: Disaster!

Today i have a problem; my secondary grow, a single plant called Cameron's Britain... There's a small amount of fluffy white mould growing on the top of the coir. Is this going to kill the seedling?

I have fitted an incandescent light bulb in there next to the other lights to generate some heat in the hopes that I'll serve to dry out the coir and stop it growing, though i am aware that this might make the mould grow faster. I'm unable to source Hydrogen Peroxide at present; does anyone have any other ideas about what i could do? i was considering throwing in more diatamaceous earth to soak up some of the moisture.

anyone wanna way in?

cheers :)

Are you sure it mold?? Sometimes the roots will grow to the surface and the do look like a fluffy white mold.

i had suspected it was mould yesterday and moved some of the affected soil to the side of the pot and left it overnight to confirm, today i look at it and it was fluffier than a cat's toe; most definitely mould.

I have some heat on it now to hopefully dry out the soil a bit, though that might cause the fluff to thrive, it's a 50/50 really. As i understand it, this kind of mould might not hurt the seedling but it can harbour other things and may be indicative of problems under the surface.

my girlfriend does hair dressing so she's bringing me some 3% h2o2 on monday and i plan to treat the growing medihm with that. If that doesn't work, I'll consider repotting. I only got one of those seeds though so i don't want to kill it.

edit: another option would be to put it into the main grow room with more favorable conditions, however, i don't want to risk contaminating the main plant group.

ok, so, I've had a look into it and this is the plan...

Step one: bang in the hydrogen peroxide to kill any fungi that might be existing in the coir.

Step two: innoculate with mycorrhizae (in the form of a product called 'rootgrow') to replace any beneficial fungi i may have killed during step one.

thoughts?

(I'll only be doing this to one plant initially as the others are isolated; if it proves beneficial i might extend treatment to the others)

Day 18... Some seedling porn.

Some of you might notice the leaves pointing upward; the V shape.. The lamps had been lowered to within 4" of the seedlings; they weren't appreciative of this so I've since raised them a tad.

The fifth plant is meandering along at a similar pace; chillin in the wardrobe with her spores bro. I've knocked up a Neem Oil concoction and sprayed it on the soil as i read somewhere it has anti fungal properties. Well, it'll all come out in the wash won't it.

thanks for looking :)

We really are in pretty similar grow environments. I read a bunch of your thread skimmed some more, how are you managing heat? I have considerably more CFLs than you, but they can raise the temp of my WHOLE ROOM (roughly 20 feet X 12 feet) by probably 15F with the door and window closed. I think I have far more width than you, but you have a decent amount more height. Beautiful seedlings btw.
subd.

at thjs moment in time I'm not managing heat, it's 36c on a good day and I'm getting well pissed off with it. i have a couple of extractor fans on the way from amazon and I'll install those and see if it drops any but if that doesn't work I'm going to need to think outside the hot box.

Holy crap! 36 celsius.. that is almost 100 degrees. You need to fix that asap! You said that is on a good day, i dont even want to know what a bad day is lol. I wish i could merge our temps. Mine is too cold, during the day it is around 70 f (21c) and at night drops to 62f (16c). The only reason it is that cold is because im trying to cool my room too so im not sweating to death. Check out my last post on my journal, i made some changes to my setup which resulted the cold, more efficient setup. Im gonna dial it in now though to even the distribution of air going to my room and box. If i can get them around the same temp it will work perfectly.

i just read your latest entry, you're routing from the AC unit. Being in the UK means we generally don't have ACs as standard and would have to purchase them, however, my grow room is already pretty crowded without a big meaty machine in there. I'm setting up an intake and extraction method as sokn as these fans arrive, if that doesn't work I'm going to look into supplemental CO2 as getting enough of that in there increases my temperature headroom. I have to say though that I've had these redonkulous temps from day one and my seeds have done nothing but thrive so far, so I'm not going to melt my brain on the issue; I'll just take it in my stride and work on the areas i can make progress with in the mean time; a solution will present itself in time... probably lol

I agree that they look good, green and healthy, but they do seem like they should be much much bigger. At almost 3 weeks they should not be seedling anymore, they should be a week or two from flower. Im not trying to be negative, but they very well could be extremely stunted due to the high temps.

Here was mine at 18 days.

i suppose how I'm counting the days is a little confusing; counting from the start of the project rather than the planting day. They've been in the ground since April 30th, so, basically 10 and a half days from a dry seed to today.

you are right though, if the heat is going to have any sort of negative effect it'll be of a stunting variety. If i don't get the heat down then I'll be harvesting these a week before my kids send me to an old folks home lol
