HPS adjustable ballast

it can work but it's sure not advisable. good chance the bulb fries at start up. it would blow it up immediately on the old magnetic ballasts, you might get a few minutes out of it on a digital lol

edit : this was asked way back in april. i'm sure he knows by now.

Hi all its working fine ive been using it for 4 weeks now no noise on start up i had a dodgy bulb before it used to emit a high pitched squeal on start up

Works fine. I've run a 250w bulb at 400w at the end of the cycle and notices it first when I got burns more on one side than the other.

It didn't blow the bulb but the spectrum becomes all wrong. Running a 250w, 400w, or 600w watt bulb in a adjustable ballast is what they were intended for, to be able to ramp up and down light intensity according to plant size and response.

A 600w bulb running at 400w is not as effective as a 400w running at 400w.
