Hey Everyone,
This is my first grow journal, and first post in any MJ related forums, so I'm pretty stoked to be starting it. I've been reading up like mad on other people's grows, and although this isn't my first grow, it's the first time I'm going to TRY to get seeds, rather than get them by a screw up, so I've gone mostly for straight seeds in a few classic strains. The Warlock (Serious) and JH (Sensi) are both reg seeds, the Diesel is fem Dinafem... I wanted at least one 'guaranteed' girl.
Of the 8 seeds I planted, all 6 of the regs popped, although one of the JHs is, as you can see, a major runt. I'm thinking about culling it, but I've been holding back for a few reasons... mostly cos it's kinda cute, I think, but also because I've read other growers say runts can do OK. I have serious doubts about this guy though - he really looks a few chromosomes short, and I think nature will take its course if I don't find a miracle. Also, one out of two Diesel seeds didn't pop.
If all goes well, I'll seed some lower branches, using the qtip method, a month or so out of harvest, and will aim to get all the possible combinations I can, depending on what the male/female appearance rate is. So, in a perfect world, I'd like one male and one female out of both the JH and the W... but of course I could end up with all fems, or all male too, for that matter... unlikely with the D being feminised, but possible I'm told... so we'll see. I'm not interested in selling anything I produce, it's only for my own growing/smoking pleasure (and I'm not sure, honestly, which I enjoy more), so I'm not worried too much about lost bud potential in the pollination. That said, I'm going to be as careful as all fuck to only seed up the limbs I want, with the combinations I want... we'll just have to see if I screw it or not. As you can probably tell from the light in the shots, I'm growing outside, in a covered area. There's power for a fan. The plan is to keep it totally organic. I've got my medium mixed, sitting there thinking about itself. Ingredients are, in various poorly measured quantities:
Pearlite and Vermiculite
Organic potting mix
Coco char
Organic compost
Mushroom Compost
Home made garden compost
Volcanic rock dust
Blood and bone
Dynamic lifter
Dolomite
Enzymes
Preparation 500
I basically mixed it all up until it felt/looked about right. Very scientific, eh? I do a little regular gardening, so I hope I haven't made a mess of it... we'll see!
So, image #1:
bottom of image, in the middle, is the D. Then the 3 W on the left, and the 3 JH on the right. You can see the runt in the middle. Sure is a mangled looking thing. I'm wondering if, perhaps, it hasn't shed it's shell properly or somesuch... any ideas about potential surgery would be appreciated. The two good JH's look very consistent, and seem to have the most sativa in them of all the seedlings. Both are the taller than the D and the W. Of the Warlock, the one in the middle, W2, looks like more of an indica pheno, although not as much as the D, which has very broad leaves, like a little strawberry plant. I'd be interested in opinions here...
I want to say, too, that after reading a lot of other people's grow journals, I've been really impressed by what an inclusive, positive community this is. It's great to see people getting excited for the gardening projects of other people who they don't even know, and, in my experience, it's really rare to find people trolling and generally being dipshits. It's that positivity that made me put the journal up. So, here's hoping it all comes to bud!
