My First Closet Grow! Marshydro 300W: Bag Seeds

Just checking in ladies and gents. How's everyone's grow going?? We're 33 days above ground today (4/18/17) and for the most part looking good. I flushed the two with some browning leaves with pure RO water (ph 7.0) but I'm not sure if that worked. After the flush, I watered with half strength nutes and pH'd to 6.8 and the run off was still reading 5.8 on both. I went ahead and watered the rest with the same dose of nutes and those 4 are looking better but still not 100%. Oo and so the lady selling the lights got called into work the night before so she can't meet me til this coming weekend. Which might be a slightttt problem. As you'll see from the most recent pics it's getting pretty tight in there, I feel like I might even be choking them out. If not that, at least stunting their growth. I was going to move a few to the top part of that closet or another closet so they'd have room and could veg til sex showed. I think I'm going to buy a tent with my next paycheck so I won't have to worry about room. Any recommendations??

Thanks for hanging around guys, here are a couple veg/struggling baby pics for your morning!!

It's got to be nute lock-out right?? I'm trying to research on how to bring the pH up quicker with out harming them. A lot of people say dolomite lime because it's perfectly pH'd at 7.0, but they also say you should mix that in before you plant and if you sprinkle it on top it'll only cover the first couple inches. And thoughts/suggestions are welcome!! Have a blessed day and happy growing fam

Just realized how hard it is to tell what the sick ones look like with the LED's lol my bad, I'll get some better shots when I get off
I had to get used to that blurple color. We can see what's really going on, but can anyone else?lol Space is always going to be a problem until you find your females. But once you have a good femake strain or plant that you like you can always clone. Good luck with the recon

I found my Secret Jarden DR100 Tent second hand on the 'bay and ended up paying about 30 bucks with shipping. It's 1 meter squared and 2 meter high (6 and a 1/2 feet). It's not 'like new' like my lamp was but 30 bucks for a Secret Jarden tent was a steal. The only part I was a little pissed about is the seller didn't mention that she didn't include the extra piece of fabric that goes on the floor of the tent as a drip tray... probably because it was worn out. Nonetheless, I use 'pee pads' on the floor of my tent and veg cabinet anyway because they are disposable and crazy absorbent, sucking up any mess you might make thoroughly. Also a pack of like 50 is cheap.
All I would recommend when looking at tents is get as tall as your ceilings will allow and if buying second hand ask to see a photo of it constructed if not already provided to ensure there are no missing pieces.

Also tip on photos under led... I downloaded the Adobe app 'LightRoom' for free which allows you to adjust the white balance of your camera so you don't have to pull your plants out to get proper photos. Really it's just a green lens that does it. You can buy a piece of clear green plastic and put it in front of your camera and it has a similar effect. The app is easier and free.

Hope that helps a little.

Yea its ph lockout.. wonder why your ph drops so much when you water. Good luck getting it under control.. filling out that closet nicely!

My best guess would be the 8 dollar bag of "organic" potting soil from Walmart. Next time I'll deff go with FF or maybe even some homemade soil from the local nursery. They really are filling up quick aren't they?? Lol you weren't lying when you said I wouldn't be able to carry them all in that space until sexing. I wanted to defol a little bit and I just mixed up their next batch off water. Should I defol then feed them or wait until they're nice and wet to do it??

hmm try and not defol in veg if you can. I understand your space issue though. How far away are you from flipping?

With your pH issue, are you getting a lot of runoff with each feed? Should be about 20-30%. If not, increase your watering. Do you have an EC pen? I would highly recommend a decent one. A good EC pen and good pH tester is a must to monitor inflows and outflows.

pH can drop for heaps of reasons. My pH dropped because I re-used my coco and there were fine roots through the mix. When the good bugs eat the dead roots, they literally shit acid (oversimplification, but you get the idea) which throws off your pH. I agree that using a top quality growing medium is a lot easier and will give you less problems. You could also try introducing more enzymes into your feed to expedite the decomposition process. Remember though to induce plenty of runoff.

If you're convinced its a pH problem, then I'd give them a good flush. That means straight water with 2 to 3 times your pot volume through. I do this with tap water (eek!) because I have 20L pots but I follow up with a nice 15% pot volume, pH corrected, light feed and dechlorinated correction afterwards. If you get an EC pen, you want to measure the EC of your runoff and when the runoff EC is 10% to 20% higher than your plain water EC, then you've done a good flush. You can keep going - it's all about time and water volume.

To give you an idea of sex, you could take cuttings from each of your plants (yes it hurts at the time, but they will recover!), root them, then put them into flower (12/12). The process takes about 2-3 weeks but if you've labelled them correctly, you'll be able to pick out the boys and girls before they go crazy in the second week of flower. I agree that you won't have the room in there to flower all of those plants. They will double or triple in size at flower time and it'll be very hard to turn back and hack down the number of plants when all of them look like they are doing well.

That's my 2c anyway. Subd' and watching on. I've only been growing for 1.5yrs so I'm a newbie - still learning with each grow. This grow (my journal link in my footer) is going well (1st scrog grow) but it's my 5th grow and I've learnt a lot between 1.5 years ago to now. I hope and suspect that this trend will continue. Good luck, have fun and learn heaps! 420 is a good place to learn

Thanks for tagging along my man. Pop a squat, roll a fat one and hang out. So much helpful info, thank you thank you..

I'd say I'm getting a good 10%-20% runoff but I'll up it a little more next time. I have a decent pH meter but I'll look into the EC pens. I mix a batch of nutes up and have them sitting, so I'll start to flush them tomorrow and give them a good feeding. I did end up defol'ing some of the leaves that were in the dirt or blocking the bud sites, nothing major, just enough to open them up and let em breathe. Hopefully that'll slow them down til this weekend when I get my "new" lights and maybe a tent. I'm 33 days above ground, but wasn't planning on flipping the switch til the show sex 4-6 weeks in, but might take it a full 8. My original plan was to grow the two best ones, but with the light upgrade, I think I'm gonna grow all the females out and see what I can get. I'm not expecting much, kind of just experimenting around with different techniques and getting a feel for it.

The wealth of knowledge on this site has helped me tremendously. I'm sure id be growing in MG and watering daily wondering what was going on if it wasn't for yall, so thank you. Will update with pics tomorrow.

looking good, when you gonna flip? or maybe try a clone/sexing experiment?

Thank you my man, dig the name.. haha

I was thinking of flipping middle of may to the endish, somewhere in there. They broke ground March 17th so that'll be 6-8 weeks in veg. Do you think the clones would show by then, or should I ride veg out until they show?? I'm getting some more lights Saturday so I could do it then, haven't really read up on cloning yet so not exactly sure what all I need/need to do.

Dude, try some cloning. It's super easy and you can eliminate the males faster. This is how I do it but everyone is different. Take a clone from a mature plant with alternating branches. Cut about 6-8" down from the top of chosen clone. Immediately place in cold water to eliminate bubbles in stem. While all that shit is going on have a Jiffy pellet soaking in warm water. Score or expose stem on the bottom for roots to grow. I didn't have cloning gel at the time (just came in today) this would be when you dip the stem in the gel or powder and place in Jiffy pellet. Make sure excess moisture is sqeazed from the pellet before placing clone and pinching the top of the pellet to seal the stem. Propagation trays work great but I just kept my clones on top of soil in a pot with a water bottle humidity dome on top. Spray clones once in the morning and once at night. Keep pellet moist for first 2 days. Let pellet dry somewhat and only spray the soil. Young roots search for moisture and Voila! Rooted clones! Looking good man and hope this helps

if you take clones, (DD detailed a very nice easy way to clone) make sure you label them well, then put your vegging plants into flower,, when males show, you get rid of them, and their clones. now you have all females,, one set vegging out, and one in flower..

but if you dont have room, I have seen a few people try to sex the clones, (no one has succeeded yet...lol) you could take a clone, just drop into glass of water (long enough clone that t doesn't just float in the water) and put them directly into flower, leave your big vegging plants to veg a bit more, and the clones in flower should show their sex in a week to 10 days

What's up ladies and gent's, it's our favorite holidaze so I hope you're nice and medicated this am. Just a little update and flower porn for ya. This is day 1 of week 5 above ground and as you'll see the slight defol deff opened up the future bud sites. The babies are bouncing back and I'm sure will love the new lights this weekend. Still have some brown spots on the a few of the leaves but it's not really spreading so that's good. They got a half strength does of nutes and full dose of CalMag yesterday. Going to run a full flush in a few days when they dry out.

Have a great day yall, sending much love from the east coast.

Looking great Bry! I think your girls are celebrating 420 too!

So I snapped this branch while doing a little super cropping to try and even the canopy out and ended up snapping it's main top. I went to tape it up and got what nobody wants to see..

420-magazine-mobile1420237827.jpg

I'm 100% that's a male so it's getting pulled today. Gonna pick through the rest and look for signs but figured I'd give yall a quick update.

The only other one I found showing what might be signs is this lady..

It might be new growth, but looks more like preflowers to this untrained eye haha

My haul from today, including the mars 96 and 144, a 600w ballast, HPS, and MH bulbs. A clone box, an air pump, General Organic's go box, EC and soil pH meter, two 15 gallon pots, two 10 gallon pots, and a bunch more random stuff. Solid, solid find for what I paid
