News's Buds and Breeding

Re: news's buds and breeding.

i assume that they absorb the nutes faster and more completely through the leaves. i've misted them right till harvest before, but all the talk of bud-rot gets me nervous. i think i may quit that practice.

Rat, when you feed to boost a certain nute, what sort of strength do you use?

A fairly low strength but enough to give them a dose. If they are in a tub I might just use a little of that. If I want to know what the problem is I'll do my best to determine the need and fulfill it. Say if I think it's a mag def I'll put a tsp. of epsom salts in my sprayer and if they straighten out in a day or so then I nailed it. I spray them when the lights go out then rinse with straight water in their morning. A little bit of Safers soap or a couple of drops of dish soap act as a surfactant and help the spray absorb better. If they're in pots, same schedule, same plan. I never seem to get deficiencies so I guess those AN nutes are pretty good. Those freakin' bugs tho! :rip:

Re: news's buds and breeding.

yeah misting is good. But as far as foliar feeding plants go. I stick w/ just the liquid light and penetrator. Nothing else. As far as the clones go, keep in mind you only need to mist them once a day for the first week, then back off to every other day and as they progress and devolop roots you sray less and less And when the do root thats when the hardening off starts. Foliar can be dangerous if you over do it. Labrat has the right idea mist when lights are out(unless stated on the nute directions) then a nice wipe down if they are moist when the lights come on. Great Work Lab!!

Re: news's buds and breeding.

thanks guys. i think i've got a pretty good handle on this foliar feeding thing. I think i'll keep it as an emergency tool. i figure it must get to the plant a heck of a lot faster through the leaves than through the roots.

overdoing it is what i'm afraid of. i guess i'll just start with a low low dose and build up till i'm sure it won't harm them.

and i'm definately loving the AN nutes. they all look happier, greener, and stronger. between that and the mites almost in control, everything is nice in the grow room.

nice dreams all, i'm outta here.

Re: news's buds and breeding.

ola!

news, news, news!

the ICE that was topped is going crazy. long side branches and lots of them. the untopped SC is doing well too. the topped SC is very slow to take off again, soon hopefully. the untopped ICE is also doing well. kinda spindly compared to the topped one though.

The hindu kush got transplanted into a 3/4 gal pot on wednesday. she's liking the new digs. the SFR also got a transplant into a 3-gal pot. or maybe it's 2-gal. either way it's much larger. also i pulled the top right over, kinking the main stem, which is fine, since it's only a seed plant and i don't need big huge buds. the side stems and buds are streatching out and up.

i repotted two of the ICE from the small pots into the 2(or 3)-gal pots. both are now in the flowering chanber. already some stretch is occuring. they look really healthy and are certainly taking to the switch to 12/12.

the remaining 2 ICE are in great shape and filling out nicely. especially the LST-experiment. the little 3-pronger is still small, but starting to gain ground.

i took 2 cutting of the topped ICE plant and am going to root them for use in my new DWC tub that i built. those along with the (now) 35 clones i'm babysitting round out the whole operation.

turns out that them little clones brought an infestation of mites with them. back to the pest battle. F@CK!

Stay up all. (pics on sunday/monday)

Re: news's buds and breeding.

thanks Sun. hopefully i'll be able to get them under control very soon. the dude at the hydro shop gave me a pest repellant recipe that i'm gonna try.

Re: news's buds and breeding.

Mites! That sux! You need an isolation chamber for newcomers. A cardboard box with a window and a couple of cfls. You can get Hepa filter for the box's ventilation. I picked up some vacuum cleaner bags w Hepa filtering then just cut them to size. I want my room sealed from anything before spring.

Re: news's buds and breeding.

No lie LabRat, I've heard enough stories about clones with mites that if I ever get any, I'm going to quarantine them somewhere away from my grow room until I know they're clean.

I'm thinking of hanging one of those No-Pest strips in my garage where my tents are. I think with my particular grow arrangement, that's going to help a lot.

I doubt the strips would work with mites. The buggers do everything but fly. lol It would let you know when you have flying bugs in the area tho. That tangle-foot stuff on the branches and main stem can greatly reduce the mites' populations. They're always marching back and forth on the branches and up the stem. Once they're established tho it's damn near impossible to get rid of them without resorting to nuclear warfare. I've heard that if you have CO2 you can seal the room and raise the level way up and suffocate the buggers. Just do it every few days until you can't find anymore adults. That would be the best way to prevent poisoning your buds.

They're nasty customers and I hate them with a passion!

Re: news's buds and breeding.

Sorry to hear your mites man.

i bookmarked this page from viper's grow, seemed like the poster really knows his stuff, but you can judge, it's first post on this page from Viper's thread.

Re: news's buds and breeding.

Hey there News, just read through your journal here brother. I was dismayed to see your girls die that really sucks. But, you took it like a champ and now got some real beauties coming up. Its neat that your going for some breeding, mebbe once I get more exp under my belt I can try some of that sort of thing hehe. Anyways, keep growing I'll be watching.

Re: news's buds and breeding.

Thanks for all the kind words guys.. no pictures today. maybe tommorow. little mother fuckers! i'm still spraying and shit, but i'm not winning, that's for sure.

Butch, i pm'd pitviper. hopefully he'll be able to get thru my thick skull on this.

Setting Sun, LabRat, MountainHigh thanks for the words of encouragment.

Grooster, thanks for the kind words man. my life is full, full, full of disappointment. so, i've grown a particularily thick hide for setbacks. haha. As for breeding. if you want to see some serious, proper work, check out Butcher's journal. he's the man. this is a little project to extend my seed supply. also to see if i can't unlock the potential in that SFR.
See, she's very very unstable. i've smoked some from a friend who took a clone for me (my original plant, then i stressed it to seed), and it was unbelievable. i felt like the back of my head opened up and rain was falling onto my naked brain. it was almost psychadelic. it literally blew my mind. it's kind of a long term project. i just wish i had more space to devote to it.

thanks for stopping by. no pics tonight. hopefully tommorow.

Whoa man you just blew my mind with that awesome description. Me want SFR NOW! hehe.

Re: news's buds and breeding.

if i had 'em, everyone on here would be getting seeds. but i don't expect to find the pheno anytime soon. if i ever find it at all. kinda like a treasure hunt! lol

Re: news's buds and breeding.

ahhh. well, after 2 weeks with little to no contact with civilized man, 2 days of blizzard and at least 2000lbs of snow shoveled, i'm back with updates. 2 actually.. 1st'll be up in a bit. the second a little while after that.

Here's the break in the stem, i think it must have been far too ridgid to be bent as much as i did.

Hindu Kush, topped, truely it's an attempt to FIM. it's already shown results, as the lower branches have all started to grow out at a much faster rate.
