Octopot Adventures: A Community Exploration

I can't wait to get my 2nd d.i.y octopot going... made it up last week. Just waiting for my little girls to get some roots developed. Then I can pot into the octopots and let them go for glory.

Dark tubs and some ply lids lined in epdm rubber.. No light getting in there

If I ever get off my lazy duff, I really need to get my Octopot up and growing...... 13 z's off that DDA is very impressive ,,,:bravo:

Indeed! I’d have liked to have seen that harvest. *sigh*

When the time is right you won’t be able to resist setting it up. Be easier on yourself. This is too much fun to let yourself feel frustration.:hug::hug:

I’m impressed! :high-five:

Well I finally got my seedlings into my home made system.. here the result so far. It's a little bigger then the official octo system. But should work just as well.. exciting times ahead.

Neat! :high-five: Is it a larger bag or a larger reservoir? The plastic bag/dome that comes with the Octopot is one of the steps to success, IMHO. How do you create the humidity dome for your setup?

The moisture is still trapped. The dome doesn't have to be air tight. It does still create it's own oxygen. The lid is still wuite tight. And its sealed with weight amd the rubber.. so i guess it is quite air tight. The temp in my tent is naturally around 28° so the res warms up and keeps a steady room temp. I'll also be using h202 thru out the grow to add more oxygen into the res... the res is bigger and the sleeve is taller... I'll be vegging for a long time though so they can use the space lmao...

I'd say both res and sleeve are double size of the 6l octopot system..

Oooo.... this could get exciting! You have adequate head room for all those massive colas? :battingeyelashes:

Might just get a little more interesting because I've just brought 2x 130w quantum lights and smaller res tanks... so more head height.

Plenty of room to scrogg and I can separate my lights to add coverage to the side colas..

All my nutes have arrived so it's full on go go go

@BrixNewb
Hi Brix - did you investigate any further if they might work with the DBHBB kit? My thinking is likely not - and I think that’s where you were at, the last time it was mentioned. But I’m curious if you’ve thought any more on it.

Meantime, what medium do you have in the top, and what nutes are you using? I’ll go back and look it up at some stage, but maybe you’ve changed since the first posts.
:Namaste:

I did not investigate further. From the funk it created I was stopped in my tracks. One could try an air stone, but I won't be the one to go down that road as I am perfectly happy with the results I am seeing from Mega Crop and Texas Tomato (not together, each on their own right). The medium is Sunshine Mix #4 as suggested by Octopot.

:thumb: Thanks! That makes sense - funk  Octopot advise pretty strongly against air stones anyway. I have some organic nutes that can apparently be used in hydro that would be interesting to try. Would love to try one of these one day!
Cheers newb :)

Actually, they recommend air stones with organic nutrients like the kit, but with a timer, and if memory serves me, something like 15 min. a day?

I am thinking a person could top.water/feed every 10 days or so. Water only from the bottom.

Haven't tried yet
I was wondering something like that. I had a medium sized plant in a pot of DBHBB soil outside over summer and it sent roots down into the tray, where I had a thick layer of pumice stone (in an effort to stop the pot sitting in water if it rained). Those roots got thick and once I noticed them I made sure to not disturb/break them. I’m sure they dried out at times but seemed to stay wet enough to keep alive (they didn’t airprune). SO it wasn’t a sealed zone like this octopot but they were definitley taking up water quite happily. Not saying it was anything like an actual octopot, but there were definitley 2 kinds of roots going on.
It would be cool to see someone try it overlord!

Good to see you back at it M’lord. :yahoo:

This thread needed more excitement. :cheesygrinsmiley:
