I can't wait to get my 2nd d.i.y octopot going... made it up last week. Just waiting for my little girls to get some roots developed. Then I can pot into the octopots and let them go for glory.
Dark tubs and some ply lids lined in epdm rubber.. No light getting in there
Well I finally got my seedlings into my home made system.. here the result so far. It's a little bigger then the official octo system. But should work just as well.. exciting times ahead.
I'd say both res and sleeve are double size of the 6l octopot system..
I did not investigate further. From the funk it created I was stopped in my tracks. One could try an air stone, but I won't be the one to go down that road as I am perfectly happy with the results I am seeing from Mega Crop and Texas Tomato (not together, each on their own right). The medium is Sunshine Mix #4 as suggested by Octopot.@BrixNewb
Hi Brix - did you investigate any further if they might work with the DBHBB kit? My thinking is likely not - and I think that’s where you were at, the last time it was mentioned. But I’m curious if you’ve thought any more on it.
Meantime, what medium do you have in the top, and what nutes are you using? I’ll go back and look it up at some stage, but maybe you’ve changed since the first posts.
Thanks! That makes sense - funk Octopot advise pretty strongly against air stones anyway. I have some organic nutes that can apparently be used in hydro that would be interesting to try. Would love to try one of these one day!
Cheers newb
15 on every hour.Actually, they recommend air stones with organic nutrients like the kit, but with a timer, and if memory serves me, something like 15 min. a day?
I was wondering something like that. I had a medium sized plant in a pot of DBHBB soil outside over summer and it sent roots down into the tray, where I had a thick layer of pumice stone (in an effort to stop the pot sitting in water if it rained). Those roots got thick and once I noticed them I made sure to not disturb/break them. I’m sure they dried out at times but seemed to stay wet enough to keep alive (they didn’t airprune). SO it wasn’t a sealed zone like this octopot but they were definitley taking up water quite happily. Not saying it was anything like an actual octopot, but there were definitley 2 kinds of roots going on.I am thinking a person could top.water/feed every 10 days or so. Water only from the bottom.
Haven't tried yet
Good to see you back at it M’lord.
This thread needed more excitement.
